Rayman Legends |OT| "It's a bit like a porno" (Michel Ancel) WiiU/360/PS3/Vita/PC

I've been playing this quite slowly, half a world a day or so. Finished Fiesta de los Muertos today. So much fun.

I'm on the Wii U, and I have to say I like the Murfy levels. Some early ones are a bit slow but they add variety and the fast ones where you have to act quickly are really fun. I know how the normal Murfy levels work on other platforms but what about the ones where you have to draw paths? How are those translated?

Other than that, the fast paced normal levels (music, chase, invaded) are the best parts of the game. But all of it is outstandingly good, so far.

The credits appeared way quicker than I expected. Not sure if time flew by as I was having fun or if the basic completion is indeed that short. Wish every game had a timer!

Still have a good 292 teensys to though, as well as the perfect lum collections.

I don't recall seeing such a thing in any of the Murfy levels on PS3. Unless you mean the cake level, in which case it's a predetermined path that Murfy creates while holding O.

I agree with you that the real meat of the game (and Origins before it) are the chase levels. The normal pace levels are training for them. As others have said it's a modern day Sonic and a more meaty and less automated version of those running games on smartphones.

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
Been playing on wii u but already wish I opted 360 instead. Murphy stuff is blah...also the only levels I will have to replay to actually mop up collectibles due to them being easy to miss via the automation. At the very least I think it is beyond dumb that this version has no option to opt to play the levels instead.

I didn't think I would, but I'm enjoying them, too. They're definitely a challenge, and I find myself replaying those more than the Rayman levels.

Been playing this game a lot on Vita the last couple days... doing everything to completion as I go. I've got to do a few more remix music run levels in the final bonus world, then go back and do some more of the Return to Origins levels.

Glad to hear the Invasion levels are being patched in, though I'd have preferred getting all that on the retail release game card for future-proof reasons.

Thoughts: more beautiful than Origins obviously, has some better moments, and I personally really enjoy the touch-control levels with Murfy even if they would annoy hardc0r3 dudes... it's a bit of a step up from what LBP Vita was doing in those touch+platforming regards. There's still a place for Origins, though, because ultimately... it's a more pure and focused platformer experience of it's own. I think the bosses were better and it was a bit more challenging, though, I'm just going by memory. The lum multipliers with the quick timers were definitely more dexterous.

This game really does a lot to feel the same but not be "more of the same". Even though I'm playing on Vita I'd say it benefited, as an overall vision, to start out as a WiiU game.

The music levels in the game make me want to call Rayman the Fantasia of gaming.

This is my first Rayman game. I thought about buying Origins but then I heard 40 levels would be remastered for Origins. This was the first demo I ever played for the Wii U at a kiosk at EB games. I've wanted it ever since. When it was delayed I was pissed. But now that I have it.....

This game.......This fucken game.....<3

decided to download it on PSN. it's fun and all but so far it doesn't stand out as anything special. mario's still my favorite platformer.

Opinions vary wildly on that matter though. I prefer the touch option if I could only play it one way and (Wii U-) coop is definitely the best way to play these levels. On another forum I visit, most people complain about the PS360 solution, so it's really a matter of taste. I'd recommend trying it out before buying. Or wait and complain at Ubisoft, because if enough people complain, it would be no work at all for them to give the choice in the Wii U-version.

I ended up buying the Wii U version because they were out of ps3 copies. I actually don't mind the Murfy levels! I think so far (I'm halfway through Toad Story) there may be a little too many of them, but they're definitely not terrible.

The game as a whole is fantastic though! I loved Origins and this has improved on it in nearly every way.
Also this might be the most beautiful game ever created.

Figured, and that's actually quite lame. On the pad you essentially play the level. If the level plays itself, the platforming that is left seems rather basic.

I'm actually motivated to collect Lums in this game just to see them dance to the music. I hated collecting lums in Origins

I wonder how we are supposed to get 1 million Lums. I'm halfway through
20,000 Lums under the Sea
and I'm 97k Lums.
Is there a level where you can collect insane amounts of Lums or do they expect us to get gold medals in every challenge until we reach 1 million?

Uplay - These flying animals that you could unlock (i think you can get 5000 per day for them if you have them all) - playing and winning them

Looks like Steam is going to refund my purchase after they left the Uplay requirement off their pre-order page.

Do the console versions require Uplay? Maybe I'll pick it up there after a price drop.

I only have Wii U and 360's version so far, both can be played always offline. I've only played the Wii U version "online" so far (Challenge mode) and it doesn't require a Uplay account there.

My only complaint with the game would be the stages in Living Dead Party.

Orchestral Chaos literally gave me a headache.

Edit: Wow, they manged to make the last one even worse. Why did they think these stages would be a good idea?

You meant the Creature Gallery? Do they have a point besides them leaving Lums in the Gallery every day? 5000 a day is not much if they expect us to reach 1 million...

You're right. I've played completely through the Wii U version and then also through all the Murfy stages on 360 and while the earlier levels get a bit more difficult when playing Murfy (when Murfy basically is a button-activator), the more creative ideas for him in the later levels suffer greatly. Olympus Maximus felt almost broken and super unnatural. It's a bit sad because I love the creative ideas for Murfy in worlds 3-5 and they really feel like tacked on QTE stuff in the non-Touch-versions.

They definitely get more sparse. In the first world, the character rescue levels are Murfy levels, later they aren't anymore. Also you will gain access to Origins levels and Invaded levels which also never use Murfy in single player, so while at first Murfy is 50% of the game, the further you get, it goes down to about 20%.

How much data does the Wii U retail version take up (save data/patch)?

Sorry I don't have an answer for you, but I really wish this was something that they just listed on every game for eshop. It drives me nuts that I gotta go online to look this stuff up, when it should just be right there.

I thought it was quite intense. Especially the last level, where
the split screen
starts to get insane. While I would have preferred just a bunch of new music levels, I greatly enjoyed these more challenging renditions.

Re amount of data: For saves you can list this, but they cannot know beforehand how much space updates will take, can they?

God I can't bother with the legends adventures. It's so disheartening to admit but I'm through with it. I've beaten origins four or five times and can't even get through this after how hyped I was.

Beautiful art, beautiful music, beautiful controls but then the four words "over to you murphy" seemingly every level. At this point, I'm just playing extreme challenges and back to origins.

How far in are you? There are three Murfy levels per world (world 2 and up), three big Rayman levels, a boss, a musical level, one Invaded level for each big level and 2 character unlock levels (not Murfy after world 1). So about 18% of the game, not counting Back to Origins, is Murfy. Counting Back to Origins it's about 12%. Granted, the Murfy levels are quite long, but you will probably always complete them perfectly on your first run, whereas Invaded levels are quite demanding. If it's just Murfy who is problematic for you, I would suggest to keep playing.

For those on PS3 the game supports remote play. It also let's you select your own music from XMB but it says it'll only play when you go to a part where the developer activated it, and I couldn't find such a part.

Wow, just played my first
Dark Rayman
Invasion level. These things are diabolical.
Beat the first one earlier today. Must've been a good 20-30 mins of retries till I did it with 2/3 Teensys. Went straight back in and got 3/3.

It's frustrating but worth it for that sweet feeling of victory (fist pumps and all). I also feel my skill has improved when going into another level after.

Which probably explains how I managed to beat a different invasion level (Forget the name, but in Worldc1) with 2/3 Teensys in one go.

I'm in the same boat as you, Origins was amazing to me and legends was my most hyped game all year until i heard about tropical freeze.Sadly it's a massive let down.
Far too easy, i hate the murfy levels(not because they are bad, but because i want to do the platforming) And there simply isn't enough new content.
Although i recommend at least getting through all the new stuff and then maybe you won't feel the same. there are only 5 worlds so it wont take long.
Given almost everyone on neogaf thinks the game is amazing, i'm starting to think maybe it's because i have the wii u version, and that i really hate not doing the platforming.
I've never felt so isolated with my opinion.
maybe if i pick up the ps3 version i won't feel so bitter, the game will still be easy but at least i'll get to do the platforming.
Just like you, i really want to love this game, it's hard not to when it's this gorgeous and controls so well but i just can't. maybe getting the wii u version really did ruin it for me.

I know some people prefer the non touch versions, but I actually think they are much more enjoyable on the Vita.

Reason being is I am now playing it on both the PS3 and Vita. I started on the Vita on release day, and the Murfy levels were not my favorite. After playing the PS3 version (I just got it yesterday from GameFly) I absolutely prefer how the Murfy levels are handled on the Vita. You can just tell they were originally designed for the WiiU GamePad as they are much more conducive to touch controls, at least imho.

So as great as the game looks on my nice HDTV, I will be returning the PS3 version back to GameFly and just playing the game on the Vita. Mainly because there is no Cloud Save feature and I just do not see myself playing the game twice on both systems.

So I cannot help but feel the Vita version (along with the WiiU for obvious reasons) is the definitive version of the game, especially once they patch the missing levels in. The game is still a great game regardless of platform. I much prefer it to Splinter Cell for example, which I promptly have stopped playing since Legends was released.

I have beaten three bosses but, man, it feels more than 3 per world. Some designs are just odd. Like one level had me changing to a duck and shortly thereafter, I had to switch to Murphy. Wtf?! Let me get my quack on a little more before getting all touchy feely with murph.

I am addicted to the challenges , however.
I feel the opposite, the amount of Murfy levels were less than I expected.

The challenges are ridiculously addictive, despite the frustration. (I suppose that makes it even more addictive).

Picked this up last night. During football commercials, me and my cousin would play a match of Kung Foot. My god, that is a fun as hell minigame. So much salt created by goal combos.

But yeah, I stand by my statement of, this game really did need to be delayed. I really don't like any of the Murphy stuff, most of it brings gameplay to a screeching halt and it's rarely clever enough to keep things fun. Besides that though, it's been a great experience.

And great god damn, this game is gorgeous.

I'd like to make sure this is what you're saying: you can play the Murfy levels using the touch screen OR the button press method on the Vita? Or did you try the different ways on different versions?

He may have played it with his friend on another vita. In single player the game is pretty much auto platformer for murphy levels.

Lets hope ubisoft adds a patch on vita for like ps3 version. Murphy mapped to a button.

I don't understand why people are so disappointed in this game. I did the 1st world levels yesterday with my girlfriend with me controlling Murfy on the Wii U Gamepad when necessary and we had a lot of fun. Was funny to see her die because of some mistake i did while cutting ropes or moving spiky platforms at the wrong time. :p Lots of laughs. This game was made to be played with others, so i guess most of the people who are disappointed are playing alone.

That's exactly it.

I'm playing on my own on PS3, but I imagine the co-op on Wii U must be one of the, if not the most innovative multiplayer around.

No need for a big patch, sadly the option is somewhere hidden in the touchscreen versions, both wii u and vita.
for some stupid reason it was disabled at the last minute.previews of the game, even in july said that on wii u/vita when you selected the level it gave you a choice of buttons or touchscreen.Ubisoft just took this out at the last minute.
on wii u pressing the b button during murphy levels even makes a sound, which i'm guessing is left over from the button control option.

People playing singleplayer, do you think it's worth me picking this up on ps3 and getting rid of my wii u version?

PS3 version here. Really loving this game so far. Unusual for me, but I actually like the abstract layout of the level selection. I'm usually all for Super Mario World maps but Legends really embraces the abstract design by making the game so open. You can basically choose any of the first 5 worlds within an hour or two. Between you unlocking a ton of things, playing daily challenges, and tackling the levels in any order you want... it's brilliant fun. They definitely made a point to let you know that you go through the levels however you want.

Murfy levels on PS3 are a lot of fun when playing solo, too. I can certainly see the appeal of playing it cooperatively on the Wii U but since I won't be playing multiplayer much I figured this would be my best bet.

The challenges are great, too, and I was surprised by how much fun the Football mini-game is.

Just started playing the Wii U version today with my son and I am amazed. The game is beautiful and the gameplay is great. Looking forward to spending some time on this one.

Spoilerish question, but I want to set my expectations appropriately.

Do you unlock more worlds down the road like in Origins or is the initial set all you get?

just the five main ones i'm afraid.

spoiler for world 6
the sixth world is just the music levels but with things covering or distorting the screen to make it harder.

After playing this a good long time with my friends and having each of them express just how much fun playing on the Gamepad is for this game, I just don't understand how the damn thing would work on any other console. This game seems built around having one player play as Murphy, so what's it like forgoing that?

This game is a perfect Wii U experience, and it's too bad that not everyone is getting to play it the way that the developers had wanted you to from the beginning. It's obvious they had a ton of ideas for what to do with the Gamepad (I'd argue more than Nintendo themselves), and each of these mechanics was executed expertly.

This game is truly brilliant, and has really proven the extra value of the Gamepad when played on the Wii U for me and the people with whom I play. It's funny cuz the joy and excitement we've been feeling when playing this game is what we're used to getting out of Mario games, though NSMBU really offered none of that to my playgroup at least.

Finally picked up a Wii U copy today. I managed to score the last "GameStop Exclusive" copy they had at the store I went to.

iPFnr63XmcaKk.JPG

And I couldn't resist taking a picture of it with the rest of my Rayman collection:

I've played the demo(s) and Challenge App for the Wii U for a long time, so I've been playing this game a bit since the Wii U kiosks were first in stores, and I've always really enjoyed the Murfy levels. Playing the Xbox 360 and PC demos recently didn't quite feel right. It was fun, but you could really tell that the Murfy level wasn't designed to be played that way.

Anyway, here's hoping that I can get my brother to play co-op with me...

Haha, yeah, no repeated consoles! Not much of a choice in that, though. Hah. Thanks.

I still play them, too. I started replaying them over the last few months. They still hold up so darn well...and Rayman 1 is still one of the hardest games I've ever played...and I love it. Though I never have finished it, despite owning three versions (PS1, PC, PSN)...

And now I'm just waiting on my brother, so we can start playing Legends...

You're gonna have a great time since you already have an appreciation for the Murphy levels. They are some of the best designed uses of the Gamepad I have seen yet, and show what clever designers can do to make asymmetrical multiplayer something truly special. I freaking love this game, and hope that we see more stuff like this out of anyone at this point.

So has the Wii U version been easier to find in stores than Blacklist? A lot of people said that their local GameStops only had one copy (if any) of the Wii U version of Splinter Cell.

Try the demo and see how it feels first.
Like I said earlier in the thread, I dont think id like the Murfy stuff in solo play at all if it was like it is on the Wii U

After playing all paintings on the first two levels, I must say I am disappointed by a few things in this game compared to Origins:

- Lack of a proper time trial mode on levels like the first game. This made the game SO much more fun, and gave the levels more re-playability. I really hope they add this in as DLC or a future update. The invasion levels don't cut it.
- Graphically this seems like a step down. I understand they made the jump to 3D, but the sprites in the first game looked and felt like moving paintings. The Legends characters look and move like CG characters, which takes away a bit of the charm.
- I miss the flying levels. I understand the point of the new level types (a la floating with being able to shoot your punches), but it really is not the same fun for my wife and I.
- I wish there was one more type of character model that was new besides Barbara.

Good things we like about the game:
- The lum 'chains', where you have to get them in order to get double the lums (i.e. a chain where the first lum is purple).
- Barbara is a great addition for my wife
- Sports mode - SO much fun
- Daily challenges are addicting and fun
- More lums per level. I like that there are 600 lums to collect per level now

Minor annoyances:
- Mandatory pause whenever the green floating guy is in a level. After 2-3 levels WE GET IT, no need to pause the action for that long without being able to skip it.
- I miss that there is no skill progression like the first game.
- Difficulty is a bit tougher - it verges on annoyingly tough in some spots.

Overall, Origins was 10/10 for me. Legends is a 9/10 for me for the reasons stated above. Amazing platforming action we've come to expect for some time from this franchise, and still has great replayability and needed depth with the wonderful engine they've built with multiplayer. There are several minor gripes that ultimately never take away from the charm, but it leaves something to be desired to make it a 'perfect' successor to Origins.

Honestly, playing the "Murphy" levels as either Murphy OR Rayman isn't ideal. Those levels were made for co-op Wii U play, and both single-player solutions (computer-controlled Rayman or button-opperated Murphy) compromise the experience terribly. Played with two players (or more I guess), that What The Duck level is revelatory.

No one can be blamed for wanting to play the game single-player -- especially with no online play option. But trust me, if you have the Wii U version, you want to do everything you can to find a co-op partner and play it that way. That is the experience the game was designed for... the single-player mode is a thoughtful and largely polished rejiggering of that design, but it definitely loses something.
