Rayman Legends |OT| "It's a bit like a porno" (Michel Ancel) WiiU/360/PS3/Vita/PC

Played through the first world and got all the Teensies and enough Lums for the gold trophy in every level and I'm really liking it. The difficulty is not bad so far and I've died and had to try some levels a few times to get all the Teensies. Getting enough Lums for gold has been pretty easy though.

Stand out levels for me have been Quick Sand (I think that's the level name), the two Dungeon Run levels and, of course, Castle Rock. So glad I haven't spoiled myself on what songs are in the game. Should be a nice surprise. Really liking the Murfy levels, especially those two Dungeon Run levels I mentioned. Really fun having to act fast and do stuff in the correct order to get the Teensies. I'm playing the Wii U version and those levels make it feel like a puzzle game and I love that. Really need to play some multiplayer sometime, because it's got to be awesome.

I disagree completely. IMHO the Murfy stuff adds a dimension to the game. It causes you to actually think about those areas of the levels differently which to me is very refreshing. What you are saying might be true on the other platforms (the sequences not seeming much different) but on the Wii U it really causes you to view the level in really a whole new light. I think the game is the better for them and if you have a Wii U it is unquestionably the version to get because of it. Worst case scenario is you don't agree with me that they are truly great, but I think that stupid gamespot review was the only one out there that actually found the Wii U versions of the Murfy stuff worse. Most everyone else finds it better to at least some degree.
The layouts probably are different in the wii u version I forgot to consider that. The layouts in the other versions have some sections where you need to call for murfy midjump to do something simple (like tap a button to activate the next platform) which is reflexive, fun, and would be dull if i was just tapping the button and not timing the jumps as well

Who else finds they enjoy the updated Origins levels more than the new ones? My current playing routine is to keep going till I unlock one or two, then play it or them before taking a break. Feels weird to be nostalgic about a game that is only 2 years old, but Legends has given me an even deeper appreciation for it. Makes me glad I didn't replay the game beforehand.

Maybe it was intended by the devs as a carrot on stick. I certainly think that's why they left the music levels at the end of each World hehe. And it works, really made me aware of the importance of positioning of levels in games.

On the topic of Murfy levels I'm guessing lag is probably why they didn't delineate them to the Vita. It certainly is an interesting challenge to play them solo, but it would've been nice if a person with a 2nd DS3 could control Murfy with the left stick and perform the actions with the right stick. In fact that would've been interesting for solo play as an alternative to circle.

Played for a couple of hours on the WiiU and loving it. Multiplayer really shines, and the drop-in/drop-out (tapping minus twice) and switching murphy on and off is seamless. Graphics and music are great, and there's a ton of content.

It's really a AAA game, it's too bad it'll tank.

So I just played the demo and it's really awesome. I'm wondering, is the level from the Ubisoft Conference last year in the retail game? Cause the demo has something else that looks like it but the music is completely different.

Just played for 3 hours straight. Got about 180 teensies.

Solo Murfy levels on the Wii U version would be much better if there were no teensies off the beaten path. Had to restart checkpoint a bunch of times to try and figure out what the AI wanted me to do.

Fuckin' amazing besides that. Not too challenging so far but moving Rayman around the world is so fun that I almost don't care. Will easily make my top 5 at the end of the year. Still some wasted potential though. If the Murfy levels were properly designed solo platforming levels, this could be GotY for me easily if Tropical Freeze doesn't live up to expectations for some reason.

I don't think I've loved a platformer this much since Sonic 3 & Knuckles on Genesis. This is just everything I enjoyed about Rayman Origins and done even better. It's so good, so fun, and so charming from top to bottom. Definitely top ten this year for me.

This is so good to hear. Can't wait to pick this up!

Done all the Legends levels last night apart from the living dead party and the unlocked invaded levels when you finish the last level.

game is actually huge.
even after all that i still have another 290 teensies to get.

Although ill never platinum it as getting a diamond cup on one of them will be a pain in the ass.

Came close last night and made top 50 or so. but by end of night i was 96th or something.
basically you have to be top 10 to get that trophy.

Will just do all the single player stuff and leave it at that. Trying to finish it by Friday as im away for 2 weeks.

Fantastic game and right up there as my fav platformer ever.

First Rayman game I've ever played and really enjoying it so far. My only criticism is that the game feels a little too open, like there isn't really a structure in place. This means too many levels are open at once and it kinda makes me feel like I'm missing something or doing things in the wrong order.

Amazing game. The Murphy levels are actually great, and 2 player mode with murphy is sublime. Wii u version superior version confirmed.

Damn right. Own the WiiU version, downloaded the 360 demo yesterday. The Murphy levels in the 360 version suck. You only have the push the 'B' button to progress

All a matter of perspective. I like being in control of my character more. I've got the Vita and PS3 versions, and I'm enjoying the game on PS3 more.

That stage one of my favourites in the game.
Mainly just for the wailing of the pursuing Luchadore which amuses me to no end.

The sound the body slamming luchadores make fucking slays me.

And that Lucha boss fight theme...I don't know where Heral comes up with this stuff but its pure genius.

So my copy just arrived and I'm missing a Uplay code for it. I have the sheet but it's blank. Whats the uPlay exclusive stuff? Do I need to code to get it or can I unlock it as long as I have a uPlay account and points?

Still debating whther to just pick up my copy tomorrow (alas, I still have to pay tax), or just buy it off the eShop (no tax, but no GameStop preorder bonus). Is the Mario and Luigi costume still in the eShop version?
Yes they are.

And damn you for having no eshop tax. I've been paying tax to Nintendo since the 80s thanks to them having had a service center in my town back then. They closed up the service center yet anything I've ordered from them since I've still had to pay tax on!!! Grrr..

The end of Lucha Libre Get Away is one of the most awesome and random things I've seen in a game. Good god.

That entire stage and the bossfight after are such a highlight. I love how happy the Lucha chasing you in that level is

EDIT- I think Snakes on a Cake is right before those two too. thats just a great string of levels

I'm sure this has been asked but I couldn't find it via search:

If I haven't finished Origins yet is most of that content in Legends? I'm trying to figure out if I should stop playing that and just play Legends.

If you don't care for time attacks and the one super-hard final level then yes, most is. But not all.

Are there time trials for the normal levels in this game like in Origins? I couldn't seem to find it in the demo (going back into the level and hitting a floating clock near the beginning).

Boy am I glad I didn't listen to some of these GAF impressions. I played until my Gamepad was drained yesterday and another hour this morning before I headed out and it's been pure fun.

Also, while completing the main stages can be easy, that certainly doesn't seem to be the case if you're trying to find every nook and cranny and unlockable. I know I've run into quite a few tough spots where I've restarted the sequence so I could achieve the best score possible. Were you guys expecting something harder, ala Super Meat Boy?

The game is a true stunner on the Wii U as well, and makes me even happier I went with the ideal platform for the game. Murfy sections are a nice change in pace as well.

Still not completely done yet, but either way I feel like my purchase has been justified by the amount of fun I'm having and by the eye candy the game provides.

No theres no proper time trial mode. I guess because it wouldnt make much sense with how solo play is set up on Wii U for the Murfy stages?

Its a bummer either way. Wouldve loved to have them

I really enjoy the Murfy sections on PC. I like how they put in an element of timing and reflexes to it since you're controlling two characters at once.

Love this game, definitely one of my GOTY contenders so far.

Target in the next town over had two 360 copies.

Can't wait to dig into tonight!

I'll have to wait till friday to get my 360 copy dammit! :(

BTW I have a question to the PS360 owners, can you change the button mapping? I'm asking this because running with LT and interacting with Murphy with RT sounds better to me than the default button mapping (RT = run, Murphy = B).

So the Murphy stages between Wii U and 360/PS3, how is it played differently?

On Wii U/Vita the character is automatic controller for yo and you use the touch screen to get rid of obstacles and make paths for him/her.

On PS3/360 you have direct control like a normal level and press B/circle or L1/R1 to make murphy move stuff or rotate stuff.

Personally I find the touch screen method very slow and boring.

700 Teensies and all the gold trophies obtained, I can now put this game to rest satisfied.
I shouldn't have left a streak of 4 Murfy levels for 100% completion and Infiltration Station invaded until the very end, kind of a bum note to finish on.
And why do I only now unlock the Stone Age looking Globox? dammit i'm done with everything and then you finally give me the costume I wanted, making it obtainable easily enough in the Challenge app was a horrible tease.

Anyway, yep this was good stuff even with the slightly disappointing amount of new full stages, I need time to collect my thoughts overall but it's easily one of the best games I've played this year.

So I played a lot of 2 player with my girlfriend last night. She is generally terrible at games, but she was able to pick up and play as murphy with no problem. I don't think I've ever had a more fun and satisfying co-op experience in a platform/adventure game. It really works, and it's really fun. The WiiU version, with co-op in murphy mode, truly shines.

I went to my EBgames last night, and they were sold out of the ONE WiiU copy they got in. I went over to Wal Mart and got the last of three copies they were sent. It seems obvious this game won't light the sales charts up, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the WiiU SKU sell relatively well compared to the others.

You need to play these sections in co-op. It's a night and day difference and some excellent co-op.

I can usually tell because the paintings have Murphy or eyeballs in it to signify it's a murphy-required level. I save those for when I'm playing with someone, and tackle the others by myself.

Maybe a stupid question, but does the Co-op work between PS3 and Vita? So you would do Murphy stuff on Vita and affect PS3 version, so that it works like on WiiU?

I just can't see me or my friends opting to play the murphy stuff instead of actually playing the regular game.

In any case I already bought it on PS3 instead.

Darn, that was one of my wife and I's favorite things to do. It was the payoff for basically memorizing the map your first play through.

Can you not use the Pro controller in single player mode in the Wii U version? I picked the game up earlier and it shows the controller on the back of the case, but I'm sitting at the title screen and the game isn't responding to any button presses.

You can't because you couldn't play the Murfy levels. Ironically, the PS360-version of Murfy's levels was coded already for Wii U, including a selection screen where you could choose either play style. However, Ubisoft has deleted that option from the final game. I guess in order to force Rayman fans to buy three versions (Wii U, one of PS360 and PSV).

That's pretty lame, I'd much rather use the Pro controller for a 2D platformer like this. They shouldn't have put the Pro controller on the back of the case if you can't actually use it by yourself.
