RE4 PS2 Screenshots (56k away)

Extras include shittier textures, lower grade models, lack of decent lighting and lots of trolling on forums.

I keed! I keed!

Hopefully they will be able to improve the looks before it ships.

well it does look like they have some really ugly muddy graphics to go along with the existing massive clipping problems to produce a cornucopia of ugly, I wouldn't worry yet, I have to assume it can look better than this, CV looked better than this...

edit - CV doesn't stand for Castlevania!!!!!

I did a little comparison from the only 2 pictures I could find that were practically the same. Looks quite close actually, although the PS2 version looks better here than in most of the pictures we've seen and there's a distinct lack of lighting altogther.

If you want to play this game badly, get the GC version. Holy hell those screens are horrid!!! Support the Cube for at least this one stinking game guys!! DAMN!

I think most of us on the GAF have already played it on the Cube...

I don't plan on playing the PS2 version, but I am very interested in seeing how the port turns out.

Somebody please tell me whether or not I should be enjoying these screenshots!

Here, I can help... Just roll a D20.

TABLE 1A: RE4 PS2 REACTIONS

1 - 2: Defend the screenshots with unwavering loyalty

3 - 4: Pretend to enjoy the screenshots to mask disappointment

5 - 7: Enjoy the screenshots

8 - 10: Begrudgingly acknowledge the screenshots

11 - 13: Disparage the screenshots w/ comments about textures, jaggies, draw distance, and lighting

14 - 17: Post random gibberish about Revolution, X360, PS3, Hitler, Episode 3, Terry Schiavo, George Bush, Lindsey Lohan, etc. Use at least two of the following key words/phrases in your post: Roofles, Lollerskates, Fanboy, Cuttable Grass, Holograms, New Sexy, One Console Future, Innovation, Cell, Touch Screen, OMGWTFBBQ, or other GAF staples

18: Declare “RE4 PS2 = BOMBA” and risk banning (40% base chance of ban, +10% for each mod posting in the thread)

19: Roll again on this table (ignoring results 19 - 20) and roll once on table 1B: Troll Rival System for additional comments

20: Roll again on this table (ignoring results 19 - 20), roll once on table 1B: Troll Rival System, prefacing your post with “GC and PS2 suck, RE4 should have been on XBOX”

TABLE 1B: TROLL RIVAL SYSTEM

1 - 2: Troll XBOX (ignore and reroll if you rolled a 20 on Table 1A)

3 - 5: Troll PS2 (ignore and reroll if you rolled 1 - 4 on Table 1A)

6 - 9: Troll Gamecube

10 – 18: Troll DS

19: Subtly Troll PSP

20: Blatantly Troll PSP and get banned by Drinky (roll 2d4 + 5 to determine ban length in days)

Sony announced the EE and released the rest of the PS2 specs in March of 99.

Nintendo made their announcet about their microchip Gekko sometime in May of 99.

For those who complained about the lack of color in the GC version of RE4, your going to have an even bigger problem in the PS2 version by the looks of it. And the visuals just don't look as sharp and as crisp as the GC version. I will buy the PS2 version however if they add something REALLY awesome as an extra like 2-P Co-Op, but I highly doubt it.

Mark my words. No way, no how will there be co-op. The entire game would have to be completely retooled. It's a single player game through and through.

that looks really bad :/

Yeah, I second that. But it really, really looks like either a) lighting hasn't been added in yet or b) the capture method has normalised the colour in the pics. Capcom should be comfortable enough with the PS2 to come up with something better than this... O_O

My eyeballs exploded at all those jaggies. Even the average ZX-Spectrum game had more colour! :lol

Come on Capcom - be a complete milk whore when it counts. RE4 - Directors Cut for 360.

Def. lacks the shock and awe of the GC version. Sadness at the disrespect of the GC version.

::thud::
... that was the sound of Mikami's head hitting the floor.

If this game had never been released on the GC, many people would be singing a different tune in this thread. I think it looks surprisingly good for what's being pulled off on the PS2. Many of the non-GC owning PS2 userbase should be particularly happy that Capcom's making the effort because RE4 is an amazing game.

It looks great, but the GC has better video hardware than the PS2, end of story. But since there are dramatically fewer GCs than PS2s, this is great news for the majority of console owners.

Lighting is off
Smaller CLUT textures all the way
Less polys overall
More Jaggies

But a very very good port overall, they still have several months to polish up. It really does impress.

It looks nice on its own, but after playing the GC version, I don't think I'd make a move for this. I'll wait for the extra features before I make my final decision.

Looks really good to me. I'm playing Shadow of Rome right now and I think that looks declicious. Guess this will be even sweeter.

I'd rather run out and buy a GameCube and RE4 than play it on the PS2. If I had money issues then PS2 would be fine though. One thing I notice-theres no craptacular black borders in the PS2 version. Or am I missing them?

Goddamn the whining here is ridiculous at times. Yes, the GC version looks better (and yes, like most of you I have played it and beaten it) but for a PS2 game this looks damn good, and people have got to remember than Capcom are still working on it.

Plus, keep in mind this should be a well-deserved hit for them. I don't know about the rest of you, but I definitely want to see a Resident Evil 5 at one point, and nothing anyone says can change the fact the Cube sales weren't up to scratch.

Sheesh, i wish MGS3 was anywhere near as clear and jaggy free as the renders some guy posted on 2nd page o_o

The lighting is the most obvious thing missing, what its gonna look like during night in the village? Yuk. Da jaggies are invading!

Anyway, i played this game on GC like 4 times now, there's no reason to even bother with ps2's, especially with the graphic downgrade, but if you're stubborn and havent played it yet and have a ps2, then get it. And if like ssx you had a gamecube and ps2, but held off on buying GC's version for the ps2 version, then slap yourself for being so dumb. (actually i dont even know if ssx has his GC anymore, but its an easy target since he would do this anyway if he had one ;) )

Compared to the Gamecube version, it's hideous.

Compared to just games on the PS2...it's still pretty ugly. I can name 10 games off the top of my head that look better, and this is a what?Fourth, fifth generation title?

Still the main problem is the shitty colour, and that might just be due to the image quality. I'll wait and see what the game looks like in motion, and what the loading times are like.

Looks better than I expected.

The only shot that isn't faithful to the GC version is the picture of El Gante, which is hilariously bad. :lol

I already own the GC version which I haven't touched...And the more I read this thread the more I want to beat it on PS2.

Some of you are acting like if the game looked HORRIBLE.

1. It hasn't been finished.
2. It looks decent.

That's a fact.

Your GC version is sorely under-touched then. Get touching, touching is good!

Wasn't there a guy they talk about in the documentary who did all the Flipper specific lighting and effects? I think it's that guy who's made sure the PS2 version was owned in advance. Everything else barre the colour saturation is comparable (and colours always seem to be more vibrant on Nintendo hardware, I don't know if that's coincidence or what).

Anyway: If it has no extras I don't see why any multi platform gamer in their right mind would buy it.

RE4 will probably be cut price on Cube when it hits too. Buy the GC game - it's fucking gorgeous and it's one of the best games this gen.
