RE5 trailer released

There is clearly much more geometry in play here, the textures are of higher resolution, and the lighting model is fully unified. That's a pretty big jump over RE4...

However, the overall picture doesn't look too far beyond.

I agree completely here. Although the technical side is far above and beyond, just looking at RE4 vs. RE5 doesn't really give you the "whoa that's a gen apart?!" feeling.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it also seems to me that given RE4, we can't be sure what to expect gameplay wise and that this trailer may have nothing to do with the final game.

RE4 was totally an exception, though. How often do games reveal themselves several times over and change each time? Now that they have a basic model to work from, RE5 likely won't see the kind of redesigns and changes that RE4 did.

Agree. RE4 changed during development 4 fucking times!

Am I the only person who wants to see RE4 ported to 360 or PS3 at 720p or higher, using existing assets at the highest level of detail available? Frankly, it would probably look better than a lot of the launch titles.

If there's really no RE5 until 2008 or later, I need some high-res lovin'.

It's possible; since the original Resident Evil came out there has been at least two Resident Evil games and/or ports, and/or remixes (i.e., the Dual Shock versions of RE1 and RE2) every year -- often more. Courtesy of jarrod:

Capcom just can't resist coming back to it, year after year.

Not really, that's why I asked. ;)

You're probably asking if they always run that speed, which seems to be a pretty huge assumption in this thread, I'd say no.*

*(Yes I'm tired of typing it as much as you're tired of reading it.)

I'd expect the final game to look quite different. Capcom have a habit of changing direction mid-point in development for a lot of their games. RE2...RE4.

It depends whenever or not Mikami is in charge. This time, he isn't so it's gonna be released on schedule. Whatever the schedule will be.

There is speculation that it might be, but nothing is confirmed.

...but the knife on the back of his shoulder is a huge giveaway too since its more or less a trademark of the Redfields, only usually its on the front. Chris' look in RE5 could also be attributed to the fact that it's been 6 years since the events in Code: Veronica. :)

I wonder why they spelled biohazard like this:

BioHaZaRD 5

I wonder if those letters that are in CAPS mean anything
It spells "Chris"!... oh.. wait... what ratcliffja said.

Is anyone else disappointed we won't be playing as Leon?

I really hope he's in the game. I thought he was a great character. A bad ass and a pussy at the same time.

:lol exactly. I love the dialogue between he and Sadler when he tries to talk tough.

damn, it looks like the enemies are gonna be friggin fast. makes me think they're gonna get rid of tank controls

Nope, i've always considered the original RE cast to be the best. Chris > Leon, Jill > Claire
Yeah, but then it reverses for the sequels they're in.
RE4 Leon > RE:CV Chris, RE:CV Claire >RE3 Jill

You almost got it. We see shadows of some humanoids running very fast. I was wondering if those are the zombies. In another shot we see them walking slow.
Anyway, big deal.

I can't wait to see more on Resident Evil 5, like actual gameplay and story details and whatnot, but I have a feeling it's going to be quite a while until we get some substance on the game.

This game could stand to get a visual improvement. But I don't know how much we can expect of that. But for a game like this, I'd expect the main character to be much more detailed. But it's a teaser, and it's probably gonna be the exact same one for the 360 too, so we'll have to wait and see. Which kinda sucks, no? ;) PEACE.

Main character is either

a)Chris Redfield but much much older which leads to Clair Redfield making an appearance as well yeah...

b)Bruce from the Dead Aim series which would suck

or

c)a total new character which is rather unlikely.

The character in the trailer doesn't have the same hairstyle as Chris from previous games. But, I guess that could change depending on how many years this takes place after Code Veronica. Can't be Bruce from Dead Aim since Bruce as blond hair(unless he died it black). It could be Hunk, the 4th survivor without his mask, but I going to have to go out and say its a brand new character with older characters making an appearance.

i didn't bother reading the thread, but i just saw the trailer.

anyways, it's nice to see that graphics next gen are definitely gonna look as good as Killzone, and now, RE5.

awesome!

Any word on whether we'll get direct feed movies of any or all of these games?

Most of them look really impressive, but the lack of clarity is holding 'em back. I'm sure this isn't how the devs would like us to see them :P

Great teaser...

has anyone made any good actual gameplay footage yet with any substance?

This is a joke. They know cinematic trailers will wow the retards more than gameplay shots with the usual tried and tested camera angles / huds.

LOL UR FUNNY

wait for the inferior Revolution port

Yeah right..

Initial Gears of War footage, Killzone, Resident Evil 5... that Lair shit made me laugh. The following is all in game ... *close up of dragons eye*. Or how about that EA presentation where he keeps rewinding and replaying fight night? I'm inclined to believe that particular game could have some very stylish camera work, or that any of these games could. I'm not saying I'm not impressed: tentatively I am. If it can do this in real time gameplay situations, and there's no reason to suspect otherwise, great! but what the fuck... where is the GAME in all of this footage?

This is a genuine request because I am SICK of seeing this fucking SHIT. You can do cut scenes of this cinematic quality on current consoles with pre rendering. Arranged movies like these aren't remotely impressive and doesn't say shit about the actual gameplay. Can someone PLEASE link me to some game footage?

Good lord. I am so sick of hearing this whine...

There isn't any gameplay footage available because there is no game! You should be able to apply past knowledge of how a game plays to these new visuals teasers. It isn't that difficult.

These demos are NOT about the gameplay. They are about the technology behind these machines that will eventually LEAD to gameplay. One step at a time! If these early looks at the technology piss you off so much, don't watch them. It's never going to change and it has been this way for YEARS.

I'd hate to see what would happen if you were in charge of designing a game. You'd be at the programmers throats day after day screaming "IS IT DONE YET!!!111 SHOW ME GAMEPLAY NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!1111". You don't just say "hey, let's make a game" and then BAM, you have a fully playable concept that represents your game the very next day. It's not as if the whole team stops working to make these trailers either.

Just climb into bed and sleep for the next year. When you wake up, you'll see some new games and all will be well!!! :)

RE5 and Lair was real time. It kicked ass too.

The anticipation is already killing me, and it was only announced like 2 days ago.

This is going to be a LOOOONG 12+ months.
