NOA said that, not me. I merely wanted to set up the Items tournament as the non-items crowd were busy setting up a Brawl tournament under terms many GAFfers found to be dull.

(I don't think I can think of a time, ever, when a Bob-Omb magically appeared and exploded on me with no prior warning.)

Hmm.. Easter week is coming, and that does make things a tad more difficult for some folks... how does the last weekend of March sound?

I think the TF2 tourny is busted...or something. In both pages of the matchup forum, I cant find the topic. Anyway the 23rd is when Firestorm's 1 vs 1 no item tournament is starting so just a heads up.

I still want to do this one, but im also participating in both, so I hope they dont end up overlapping somehow.

I'll stay out of this one; I enjoyed item play occasionally in SSB64 or Melee (80% of the time without, though), but quite a number of items are more powerful in Brawl. Almost obscenely so, whether it's the Beam Sword or Golden Hammer or Lightning or Smart Bomb or Dragoon or Smash Ball, plus the usual Starman and Heart Container stuff that even some item users will ban.

But that's not what I came here to post.

I think I'll be doing The Brawl Tournament of Reverse Discrimination, where if you're male and you're human/oid you're not allowed.

So basically no using Mario, Link, Fox, Pit, Wario, Ike, Snake, Lucas, Olimar, Sonic,

. Ice Climbers okay due to Nana, and Pokemon Trainer okay since you're playing the Pokemon. I'm not quite sure what I think of Donkey, Diddy, and

, but I'm inclined to leave them in since they're not exactly as anthropomorphic as, say, Fox.

Interested in a Super Smash Bros. Brawl Items tournament?

Thanks to plenty of interest expressed by GAFfers, I'm ready to schedule a "standard" Brawl tournament for the end of the month (some point between Monday, March 24th and Monday, March 31sth) ... basically, the week after Firestorm's "No Items" tournament.

This tournament will consist of matches using a variety of commonly accepted modes, including items. This should favor the well rounded Brawl player. Possible matches could include: four player w/ items (top two progress), 1 on 1 w/ items, stock, timed, timed stock, and even (potentially) a "No Item" match. The majority of the tournament will feature items and stock matches.

Stages will be randomly selected by me. Characters are your choice. No standard game options are currently "banned" -- so be prepared to do just as well on Hyrule Temple as you do on Final Destination, as you won't know where you might be asked to battle.

If anyone wishes to donate a prize, feel free. I'm looking into getting something for the victor.

Suggestions, comments, death threats, etc. can be posted here.

Thanks for the link -- I'm probably going to do it by hand, as I'm not sure if tournament software would easily allow for switching between 4 player matches and 2 player matches, but I'll take a look at it.

I will give it a try although I don't think Brawl in it's pure form is suited to a real tournament. But it will still be fun, even with tons of cheap deaths. Brawl even more so than Melee. One hit KOs that are pretty much impossible to avoid will probably end up annoying someone ;p I love Lyn and all but damn she is a bitch in Brawl heh

I don't think you have smashed enough ;p It is definitely rare but I have had it happen several times.

My motto is "jump, jump, jump, don't die". The better player should generally win. I mean, I suppose if folks were really paranoid they could turn off all the explosives, but then the gets being less Smash/Fun, and more dull. Then again, I'm horribly biased -- but that's why I'm running the Items tournament.

I am definitely a 'no items' kind of player but I will be happy to man up and throw a beam sword at your face.

I'd enter.

The only thing I don't like, for tournaments, is one-two hit kill weapons. Dragoon is okay, because you have to collect it, but I don't know about the golden hammer. Okay...maybe only Golden Hammer.

So stick close to your opponents so they don't end up next to a golden hammer when you are too far away to stop them and/or grab it.

:)

Side note: it appears I may be out of town this weekend, and might not be back until late next week. If I don't post any new news, assume the tournament occurs during the final week.

I just played my first multiplayer games of any SSB game online last night, and I think I'm hooked.

I'm in for any tournament that's going on, items or no.

I've been playing a few different matches so far, and generally I'm have pretty good speeds. There have been a few poor matches, but I'm hopeful in general.
