Started playing electric guitar roughly 10 years ago, but in the past year or so it remained in its case and barely ever played it. About a week ago i bought RATM's first album, yes i know im late to the party, i listened to some of their stuffs on school radio back in the days but back then i was 100% punk, and since punk sucks major balls lately, im spreading into different genres ala radiohead, ratm, and so on.

Anyway, tom morello gave me a huge motivation to get my guitar out of its case and play it constantly whenever i have free time, first days were rough but like a bicycle, it always comes back. Playing bombtrack and having the timing perfectly is pure joy, its a really weird way of playing when you're used to punk and very technical solos (think Lagwagon) and go to a style the relies on beat and effects, its awesome though.

I wish i had better equipment though, im still with my shitty squire fender replica guitar and a rather standard peavey, my wah wah is also freaking out on me, something must have broken inside. They're all equipement i got when i started playing guitar, in 10 years i never had the money nor the necessity to buy high quality stuffs, but lately im thinking about it, there's so many guitars though, its hard to decide -_-

anyway, this guy made me enjoy guitar playing again

I dunno, I like the guy but I'm not into his style all that much. RATM is good stuff and so it Audioslave, but I never really saw him as a huge guitar icon myself. Of course, that's all opinion anyway.

I thought the Axis of Justice album which he and Serj Tankian headed was also pretty lacking, but that doesn't have much relevance in this thread anyway.

Also, is he an actual commie? I guess I'm guilty of owning a shirt that has a hammer and sickle on it, but the shirt is clearly in jest since it says "Can't We All Be Comrades?" but I don't know about this guy since he has such extreme stances on other things.

He's a Marxist I believe.

probably not a commie, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's a Marxist.

I think it's the other way around. He's a communist but not a Marxist. Marxist believe in a violent overthrow of capitalistic governments. A communist on the other hand wouldn't neccesarily be for a violent change in favor of Communism, though they obviously would like a Communistic government. I don't think I've heard Tom say he was for violent change only express communist ideas.

I'm pretty sure Morello's a Marxist.

And Morello is also my favorite guitarist of all time. So innovative and brilliant, plus he seems like a really nice guy!

He is very amazing, it would be interesting if he would tour with the likes of steve vai, maybe do an E3 concert or something just to see what he is really made of. Because of the creative limitations he is held to by being in a band he doesnt really get to show everything he has.

I didnt really care about his style either when i was younger, not sure why it changed for me recently but this guy just flows with his guitar. Nearly impossible for me to make all the weird sounds he makes though, i dont have the equipment for that, but bombtrack, killing in the name of, know your enemy and freedom all have great beats to play without too much fucked up sound. So fun to play too :D

You can do the PacMan sound that he does by covering the strings at the very end of the neck :D

I'd love to see how much Tom would like he new life as a farmer who drives a shitty Chevy Metro and is unable to perform anymore because the "state" deems it immoral.

Communism: It sucks.
