Personally, I think so - but I am also still very early on in the story (despite having played for 30 hours). The story does have the eccentricities commonly seen in Rockstar games, but it also is much more down-played and nuanced. This isn't like RDR1 or GTAV where things were constantly over the top with its characters and world. I freakin' love it for that.

Why cant I pet cats :'(
I haven't even seen a cat yet, and I literally can't even.

If your tv has dynamic contrast setting, turn it on, it makes the fake hdr work. Otherwise turn hdr off.
I'll give it a shot, but I can't imagine that fixing the fact that colors are washed out in fake HDR (not just luminosity), and everything is just much more vibrant in SDR.

To the poster above that asked if anyone actually enjoyed riding horses in this game, well I freakin' love it. I think the horse riding in this game is even better than in Zelda:BotW and I appreciate the huge diversity in horse models and types. I think it's great just clip-clopping along the streets of St. Denis on horseback at a real slow pace just taking in the scenery and atmosphere.

Another thing about this game I've really noticed but haven't seen a lot commented on is just how amazing the sound effects seem to be in RDR2. In addition to the huge diversity (and quantity) of NPC comments and conversations but just the various sounds you hear both in a town or out in the wilderness has really impressed me.

Also, this game is like a Western screenshot generator (kind of like how No Man's Sky is a science-fiction screenshot generator). I'm rapidly approaching the number of screenshots I took while playing NMS and Horizon Zero Dawn and I'm nowhere near even halfway done with RDR2 yet.

Came across the Klan today. Wanted to be one of the cool kids and blow them up but I'd never actually thrown dynamite before. I equip it, press R2 but instead of throwing it I calmly put it on the floor. The Klan become alerted and all begin to shoot me, then I get blown up from my own stick of dynamite.

I'm still in Chapter 2, so I don't know.
I thought RDR1 story was excellent.
You start with Bonnie on the farm with her issues.
Then wintery area with Dutch and some indians.
Then the whole Mexican section was seems like a whole other game.

The comments about this being more of a 'cowboy simulator' are spot-on, and although stuff like having to shave/bathe/eat would typically turn me off, these are the parts that are helping the immersion. Although character models in cut-scenes aren't that great, the graphics and scenery are lovely. I'm not having a huge issue with the controls at the moment, with the exception of the menu 'wheels', which are truly awful. I quite like the way that the camera has some weight.

I have some work mates who are playing this, so chatting about this at work all day just makes me want to get home and play more!

If you like RDR2 for it's simulation aspects, you should check out Kingdom Come Deliverance. Basically the medieval RDR2.

Trying to get my first full trapper outfit. Going for the bear one right now since that was the first legendary I killed. All I need is a perfect bull pelt (I'm right in front of some bulls so I'l have that soon) and another perfect rabbit pelt.

Could anyone maybe explain to me in a few sentences how wearing a mask while committing a crime still nets a bounty on your head? Haha.

I just had a mission where I killed a bunch of people, wearing a mask mind you, and still racked up a HUGE bounty. Gotta be something I’m missing.

They recognize your outfit and custom guns some are saying, especially if you hang out in town a lot and interact. So you have to have a throwaway outfit in your horse for that.

That’s crazy. I keep forgetting how deep this game goes. I’ll have to try out some new tactics.

Search YouTube for where to find a particular large horse in the wild, get the end of the game spoiled for you. Friggin' people, I should have known better...

Guys can you tell me if I’m crazy? See I have a very unused in media name, I never here it. It’s Gavin.

Anyway, in the town of Rhodes, I rode through to find a guy looking for his friend. His friend Gavin.

Now, I’m pretty sure this is just a scripted event for something I haven’t discovered yet and isn’t important. But... it’s not set up to know your account name is it? That would be... well, that would be very rockstar, lol.

I'm not sure if it's been said but I encourage everyone with a 4K HDR TV on Xbox or PS4 to turn off the HDR until fixed.. The result is a proper beautiful image. If it is worse or you don't see a difference then either you don't know what you are looking at or your TV is not calibrated properly. You should';t need the HDR to get a better image, it only enhances the image if the HDR is implemented correctly.

I do not think they have access to that info (on PSN/Live).

I just started playing this game as I was busy/out of town. I played for about 1.5 hours. Shut it down at the train mission. So far I find it kind of boring. Does it get better?

how long can i keep pelts on my horse? I have 3 perfect pelts on the back of my horse. no carcus, just pelt. do they ever go bad or do i at least have several days. I'm always paranoid and want to go straight to a trapper which isn't always ideal.

They go bad. I learned that the hard way. Then I got a replacement for it and got ambushed by O'Driscolls. 2 hours later I finally got another damn pelt and I BOOKED it over to the trapper.

Dude you are only about 1/4 through the intro. Yes, it gets wildly better.

Chapter 3 missions have been flawless. Yeah they all in end up shootouts for the most part, but the acting, writing and circumstances that surround those missions are so fucking compelling and awesome.

It’s going to be so hard to go to an Ubishit after this let alone most open worlders. I’d rather just play this again. Probably going to wind up on my top 10 of all time.

Yeah. After 15 hours of AC Odyssey I called it quits. I was bored to death. I’m 37 hours and 37% into this and easily see myself going over 100. Everything is so well done 👍

I may be wrong but I have never had a pelt go bad or get worse. The carcasses that fit in your satchel also do not go bad (like birds). The only thing i see going bad is a carcass on your horse. Legendary carcasses will never got.

When you really think about it, your interactions with your horse are very limited. You get to name it and get it groomed, then it's basically feed/brush/pat/drug the horse as you please. Sure, there's a point for all those actions gameplay-wise, got to level up that horse if nothing else, but as far as NPCs go, you wouldn't think that would rank very high. Yet, I've been riding with the horse I bought from the very first stable. He's reached max level ages ago, and I could have bought several better horses since, but hell no - he's my horse and I like him just the way he is. I keep giving him extra pats and food just for the sake of it, because he's my horse and I want him to be happy.

I'm now pretty far into chapter 6. I just finished an exhausting gunfight and was about to return to camp, when I was ambushed by a large group of bounty hunters. Tired of fighting I thought I'd just escape them, but the tricky terrain caused me and my horse to fall down, and I was quickly shot dead afterwards. Meh, no biggie, I may be some hundred dollars poorer, so what. But after I respawned I realized what had happened: the fuckers had killed my horse!

I'm honestly furious and sad right now. And realize I'm being quite irrational about the whole thing, it was just a 3D model in a video game. But it was still my horse and now he's no more.

Same... still using my original Tennessee Walker (renamed him Tennessee Sour haha) often. Almost entirely him or the one I got with Hosea...

only just now got a 3rd one... I was looking for 1 to steal and I came across a guy asking me to race him and brag about how good is horse was haha 'so fast, huh? oh reaaaally? ;)'

and instantly cared about it because had an awesome hunting trip up north with it where it bonded all the way to level 3 through the snow and fighting off wolves in a blizzard

and fell off the side of the glacier together haha

(and i only had a single revive... so no more fuck ups on the long snowy hike back to civilization)

and I think that's an example of why there's attachment to horses in this game... and also one reason RDR2 is really good... it deliberately makes you vulnerable in some areas. my attachment isn't to the stats of the horse but the fact we survived so many falls, battles, wolves, etc.

kinda the permadeath design logic... more to lose or more sense of vulnerability, and things take on more meaning. ....and it's not that all of RDR2 is even hard (dead eye system makes you pretty OP in gunfights). but there are a lot of accidental ways you can fuck your shit up.

No, I was asked to look for a Gavin.
I was confused because they usually make these Stranger missions pretty straight forward. There were 20 people in town and they were all labelled Stranger.
I thought I saw the name Gavin in the context menu but there was no one there.
As an even more fake out, there was a very flamboyant guy walking around by himself, I swore would be Gavin, but he wasn't.
As I type this, maybe its:
The guy you save from the Gunsmith's basement. I never followed up on that.
