This is exactly the kind of info I was looking for. Thanks for posting, pardner
I decided to say fuck it and just downloaded from Rockstar launcher
trying to get right settings for my 1070 ti
Would there be a detriment to running FXAA with TAA? Strictly talking image quality, not performance. Or are they designed to be used together?
Sorry for the dumb question

You can put the TAA in medium to see what it looks like in 1080p or 1440p, the FXAA is to be avoided unless you like the blur of the console versions you activate it, the msaa is great but it's too greedy performance level.
But if you play in 4K you don't need TAA.
My advice is to never use FXAA when TAA is available. It doesn't have any effect on aliasing and just adds an extra layer or blur.
Has anybody else noticed that the game looks significantly different with TAA on as opposed to off? I like the graphics more with TAA, looks much smoother. Maybe i do a comparison screenshot in the next future.

It makes the image blurry.
Use the new Nvidia image sharpening, it's a game changer for RDR2. Only 0,2 is enough to give back the crisp image for the game.
Change the mouse to DirectInput. It eliminates the dead zone that raw input has.I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but I'm actually finding that I prefer the xbox controller on PC vs mouse/kb. It just feels more natural, easier to transition between the moves. But better than on console because of the higher framerate - feels more responsive. Anyone else feel this way?
Yes. TAA at medium.Do you use any in-game AA solution?
Yes. TAA at medium.
Only use the nvidia sharpening if you use TAA

I dont know, its a new nvidia setting. Red Dead is the first game I used it, and it worked great.is this just a RDR2 thing or something that should be applied with every game that offers the option?

I set it to 0, since RDR2 doesn't have film grain.Your tip for sharpening works great. I went back and found other games that use TAA (DMC5, for example) and applied it for them too.
I’m using .20 for sharpen, I left the ignore film grain at default .17, what do you use for that?

Thanks so much for this.
You mean using the new Reshade filters thru the overlay?

You are using too much sharpening. I can see artefacts everywhere.
Man some of those screens honestly look like real photos.

From what it seems. Rockstar has future proofed it and people need to adjust their expectations.
Their comparison video can’t come soon enough. Even if the pc version uses worse settings than the 1X. Just finally something to get the “it looks the same”, “this is why I play $400 console” etc wankers to fuckoff out of a pc thread.
Ah I haven’t watched it yet, leaving it for breakfast viewing. There is some comparison in this video. He even mentioned that some console settings are lower than the PC low settings.
He mentioned game scaling which we haven’t got very many games lately that have scaled like this except for Ass Creed

Good video, and everyone moaning about optimization should watch it as it explains a lot.
I think when i eventually get the game, i'll go for OneX settings and go for 4k/30. I should just about be able to do it on my PC according to this video (I5-6600K, 16GB DDR4 Ram, GTX 980ti).

The colors are oversaturated in this second image.Dafault color

Ya know, I see this a lot...and I've never understood it. An awful lot of ReShade and ENB presets people make are like this, the same thing over and over. Oversaturated, often contrast is cranked so that blacks are being crushed and whites clipped, and then, to top it all off, their white point is way too low, as if they're applying a tonemapper to an already tonemapped image (actually...that might be exactly what they're doing). Why do they think this looks good? Do they have eyes? Is their monitor just improperly calibrated? The colors are oversaturated in this second image.

Lower than low oh my god
Yep, death steanding on a 4k oled hdr screen still has fucking nothing for this game...Finally got the settings I'm happy with.
Solid 60fps with a mix Medium and High settings @1350p (ingame x1.25 upscale). Also using nVidia sharpening @30% (only one that works on Vulkan I think).
