I don't believe the rumor has anything to do with hardware though. Mostly about specific content within the game. Still though, what has been said was largely vague and nothing specific over Twitter. She's currently digging for more solid proof so there's not much point in discussing it with barely anything for us to even go on.

There are like 10 pages worth of posts about "NXUE4DEV16" or whoever he is on Reddit. Emily's vague messages are about 100x more worthy of discussion lol.

The scope and cost of the project was without a doubt diminished in someway when the reality of the Wii u set in and the games potential sales couldn't justify it. I would bet a thousand bucks the decision to bring it to the NX however many years ago allowed the game to get back some of that original scope.
Sadly, that is not something we will ever likely know.

I understand there's a general feeling that Nintendo's sexist thanks to certain situations, but they are one of the most progressive gaming companies in Japan. They hire the most women in the Japanese gaming industry, some studios being 50/50 in members.

Frequency is way overrated. I doesn't mean anything when comparing different microarchitectures. the PPE core was pretty much the Petium 4 of IBM's PPC line up. Impressive frequency but dogshit performance per clock. The processors in the current crop of consoles are far more efficient than the Xenon. Even at half the frequency, the Jaguar cores still have an advantage over the PPE cores and that's before taking account that there's more of them.
Even the Wii U's Espresso is not as far removed from the Xenon's performance as some fanboys would have you think. Even Arkam, who originally spilled the beans on Espresso back in the WUST mentioned that the processor was about equivalent to the Xenon, despite the frequency gap (and this was before Espresso got a 25% up clock).
Now I'm not saying frequency is meaningless, but as a tool of comparison, it only makes sense when comparing the same microarchitecture.
Of course, that's what I was trying to say. That is, it's likely more possible for them to invent something interesting that their core audience + mainstream consumers would like (ala Wii) than it is to show value to the enthusiast audience who like their machines to be "powerful" and "adult"

Peach and Rosalina are playable in 3D World and they had a ton of games this generation with a female playable Character like DKCTF, Pikmin 3, W101, Smash, MK, Bayonetta2, 3D World, Xenoblade X, Splatoon, etc.

Nintendo has stumbled plenty of times but at least learned from those mistakes. I remember there being some anger about Nintendo starting an initiative to target girls only recently. Yes, the stands, the online site were pink and those were criticized alongside gendered targeted advertisement.
However, gendered targeting advertisement, as much as many may not like, it's going to be around a very long time. But Nintendo did learn more from it. Nothing is all pink, there are many colors now, even colors that most even associate with boys.
All anyone can hope when there's a stumble is to learn from it.

Wondering if this and the Zelda rumor possibly point to a Direct soon (hopefully mostly about NX).
Feels like Splatoon stuff happens around their airing time. The last update (on March 8th) was just after the last Direct last month (March 3rd).

I was on the bus home from uni just now thinking about NX and the unveiling etc. It was probably because I was listening to the Zelda Symphony soundtrack, but it would be incredible if Nintendo opened their presentation with a 'Nintendo Melody'. Iconic songs from each console and handheld played before transitioning to, the um, NX Theme!

Paper Mario rumors appeared about 2 months before a Direct if that helps to pinpoint anything.
Also I believe the new Splatoon stuff is a thank you gesture to the fans and Splatoon communities from the producer and the team. I do remember when he was tearing up on stage at the end of the Splatoon nationals that though they had stopped doing things for Splatoon "but maybe there's one more thing we can do."

Yes it would. It would be fun to play as a female on the second playthrough like I do with Bioware games or Pokemon. Kicking ass as a woman despite being a straight white male is....what's the word I'm looking for....invigorating?
Tbh, Nintendo does have gender issues--just read Iwata asks when a female staff is present: so much "oh you can play games too despite them being difficult for girls?"--but they are also interested in reaching out to a female audience, cultivating their female staff, etc. So that's a mixed bag.
But, I'll be kind of shocked if this "gender swap" which is paraded on western forums with an air of inevitability seems at all that way in Japan. The triforce heroes guy didn't even understand the question when asked. Maybe Aonuma is really going hardcore " look to crpg" but other than that I can't really see the weight of "Link should be a girl" playing at Nintendo.
Of course I don't see it here. I can see wanting it and it doing some good but I can't see "it should happen."

Not sure if "despite" is the right word after straight white male...a lot of us like playing girls for that reason at least in part. Not knocking that but...also not looking forward to Link waifu days.

I'm still hoping for end of April/after Star Fox's launch.
Splatoon still getting free updates this far into its life is pretty cool. I imagine SplaTwoon is already in the works, I wonder when we'll see that. I'll probably not play the game again so the sequel would feel fresher.
Yeah I usually play the character that's closest to me, race, gender, etc.
But those second playthroughs I do opposite things usually.
Plus it's awesome playing as Lara, Michonne, Bayonetta and Clementine
Oh just a heads up, the NXDev16 dude is saying the Starfox adventures tease was for a direct that will announce that as a GameCube game for VC. Yes, he's saying GameCube Virtual console is coming to Wii U this late.

Gender in games is a hotter topic than race in games, yes. White straight men have a vested interest in women. Mothers, daughters, wives, would-be lovers, etc. It makes closing those gaps more of an immediate interest than gaps with racial minorities, yes.
Idk. If it goes femlink half of me wants just one link that is female for the game and half of me would want a character creator with at least skin tone options as well as sex.

Where is that Twitter link again for Star Fox Adventures? And don't they know that Nintendo has been doing this whole Star Fox history stuff at all? And if it's NoE, do they even know that NoE just has fun on their Twitter year round regardless of news?
I highly doubt we're getting GC VC at this point in time. I can see getting it for NX, but the ship has sailed for Wii U.

Honestly Nintendo are hateful against any group they don't allow you to play as in Zelda. They should just make Link a creatable character to avoid offending any groups. My Link would be a disabled, Hispanic, transgendered vegan Women. The nerve of them forcing us to play as a boy, it's clearly a plot to be keep dem wimins down. Every single iconic character in any medium should have a female alternative with her own TV series, book and video game.
