Reggie Fils-Aime on Xbox One/PS4 lineups: "Meh"

who cares about the comparison between launch titles on the next gen and available titles on wiiu. I buy a console for the future 3-4 years worth of games and not just the right here right now and as it stands ps4/xbone will have 10x the compelling software by the end of 2014.

So that's the defense? "Sony also did it"? Ok, I'll bite: "Yeah, Sony's rep shouldn't have said that either.".

But wait, this doesnt' fit. Even if the "another Mario" comment was distasteful, they were attacking a rival company, they were attacking such rival company's very own IP.

But in this case, Reggie's comment is a middle finger not only to Sony and Microsoft, but to other companies that make MOST of a console's catalog.

You're making a mountain of a molehill.

This is not world powers using dangerous rhetoric against each other.

On the one hand, what is he supposed to say?

On the other hand...I really feel for Nintendo. With the Wii-U, and now the 2DS...It's like seeing Dick Clark do his last New Year's broadcast, it was just too sad to see.

Why? I've been able to play it for free on Steam for months now and haven't really cared. I installed it and played it for a few hours, it was okay.

Not really sure why people should care all that much on consoles, either. It's okay, but nothing to be excited about, I don't think.

Aw man, don't kill my hype for this ):

It seems like a really fun flashy game that I don't have to pay anything for. So the value proposition is already awesome! Can't say the same about any other title for any console this fall. Perhaps Res0gun. But I have to pay for PS+ to even get it for free. Then again, that's why I'm not getting any of these consoles at launch, since my 'most anticipated' title is a F2P port.

He's not wrong, but at the same time it's not exactly the time to crow about things.

That said I'm not surprised to see how defensive so many posts in here are. Sheesh. I can't wait until this gen is a couple years old and this shit dies down a bit.

Let's be conservative and say Nintendo is at 5 million units by Q1 2014. You honestly think Sony is going to sell 5 million PS4s in 4 months? I seriously doubt it.

They are predicting 16 million in 6 months, so 5 million in 4 should be nothing.

Ya, it's definitely cool for a little bit, and it IS free.

It's just not anything special.

It's not as awesome of a F2P title as like... Hawken or anything.

Lmao!

In my opinion none of the 3 system have anything up their sleeves. Seems like current gen is stealing the thunder! Most anticipated game : Dark souls 2...

Reggie setting a bad example for the young trolls of the world. Can't believe he actually said "meh." The guy is funny, I like him, but he's in a desperate situation with Wii U and coming off delusional. Hyping DK, Mario, Zelda isn't going to attract anyone other than the Gamecube faithful. Their mainstream success last Gen came from innovative original titles, not just rehashing the regulars.

Wii U had a lot of 3rd party games at launch too, but the problem was the games didn't look any better than the PS3/360 games we've been playing for the last 7 years. With PS4/X1 we have 3rd party games that look a lot better than what is on PS3/360/Wu so there is actually excitement around the 3rd party games themselves.

And finally yeah I do think Forza, Ryse, Dead Rising, Killer Instinct, Peggle 2, Zoo Tycoon, Crimson Dragon look better than the exclusive games that Wii U had for launch. What were the Wii U exclusives?

Even if you eliminate all the multiplatform games from the launch it is still an impressive launch, but it is BS to eliminate multi-platforms which usually sell better on console than PC. Annoying hearing so many gamers eliminate PC games as if everyone chooses to play games on PC.

Certainly "meh" when they're mostly third party games on both platforms and most of them aren't coming to your platform. You know, the problem you have had since the N64.

Very same problem that switched me over to the PS years ago when I realized Mario and the gang reduxed to hell and back are as good as it's ever going to get.

“I look at our lineup of titles and I feel good about our lineup. We’ve got Zelda. We’ve got Mario. We’ve got Donkey Kong."

This same quote could have been made in 1986. Problem?

YES.

I do not think it is his fault. Nintendo Japan does not seem to give the North American branch or the European branch much freedom. Feel free to correct me.

Nintendo suffers from a general lack of progression on the back of non Japanese progression... Oh who gives a fuck. Those of us that would like to see Nintendo evolve are ignored.

Wish I couldn't say the same. I'm just as excited for Infamous as I am for, say, Super Mario 3D world because I know they'll both be barrels of fun but this generation as a whole isn't anywhere near as exciting to me as the last few had been. And the lineups (that we know of so far) are to blame

Exclusive wars?

Xbone: Have you seen Titanfall?

Internet: Pretty good game.

PS4: We have Knack. And Killzone. And 3rd party runs better on our GDDR5 hardware. Did we say we have Knack?

Internet: Games looks very Next gen, also the console is very powerful.

Nintendo: We have Zelda, Mario, and Donkey Kong.

Internet: Meh.

Nintendo: We have Bayonetta 2, and X.

Internet: Fuck you Nintendo we demand you to port this to a proper next gen console!

Haha, IPs that are still around 30 years due to their popularity and sheer quality.

How many 30 year old IPs does Sony or Microsoft have, that are still very successfull to this day?

The salt in this thread is awesome :)

That attitude is not helping though. Nintendo should be COURTING Third Parties, like they did with Platinum, not spitting in their faces.

Or do you prefer a "You are not making games for our system now? Well FUCK YOU."?

Courting them is throwing money bags at them not praising what they're releasing on competitor's consoles... you seem to have a warped sense of COURTING, when clearly 3rd parties have given Wii U a cold should from the get go, seeing how it had strong holiday sales followed by nothing by 3rd parties, except one or two honorable mentions, MH3U and LC:U...

The secret is they keep re-introducing the franchises to new generations alongside the constantly complaining older fandom that has continued to shrink over the years. At this point, that formula isn't working so well in several aspects of their consumer market.

what is the point of a comment that so willfully misrepresents every single side in this fake discussion?

Reggie is right. The launch lineups are meh. Nothing excites me about the X1. Sony is better, but really Killzone is just overall a good franchise, not great. Knack is ok.

So yeah, Reggie is correct, launch is meh.

However, it is after launch and continued PS4/X1 exclusives next year that makes things troublesome for them. Lucky that they have Mario Kart, Smash, X, Bayo 2, and hopefully Zelda to fight the good ol fight.

PR guy says PR stuff.....I really wonder if there is a single person out there that changed their mind even the slightest bit over these comments.

Is today the official Nintendo-joke-day?
First the Bomberful 101 numbers, then the 2DS and now this.

With how Nintendo acts, we should be afraid that Reggie really thinks everything is fine and that their lineup is great.

How was the Wii U's launch titles (never really followed the Wii U)?

I actually enjoyed the Wii U's launch. NSMBU, Nintendoland and Sonic All Stars Racing were all fun.

The problem is that everything after it was a huge drought with 1 or 2 games.

I think Zelda, Mario, DK are great, but how do they expect to do as well or better than Gamecube with these titles? Their success last Gen came from offering people something different, something more than just the franchise character games. They don't seem to care anymore about presenting something innovative and appealing to the mainstream and have gone back to their bad habits from N64/Gamecube era.

Of course not, because it's definitely not, lol. Even if you don't like Nintendo, you have to agree it's a damn strong line-up.
I don't find Nintendo games appealing. I haven't owned a nintendo console since 1998...

I was thinking of buying a wii u for x and xenoblade but I won't anymore. Reggie is clueless

This. I don't plan on getting a Nintendo system until my son is a little older. Then I'll spend some time playing videogames with him on whatever Nintendo system is available. Namely Mario Kart and some party games. Otherwise... I lost all interest in Nintendo franchises after the N64. I simply don't get excited about a new Zelda, new Mario or new Metroid.

This is no news...
If he said: PS4 & Xbox One have awesome games, that would be new.

A President of a company says the competitions is meh... Wow, go figures.

Or we should be realistic that he is toeing the party line.

I don't mean Reggie himself, if that's what you mean? I mean Nintendo as a whole. I too would like to see them evolve, maybe it is NTDOY Japan holding them back. The biggest problem I have with Nintendo is that they were around much longer than Sony or Microsoft, and yet they seem to target (almost-exclusively) younger demographics. That's great for getting young people into gaming, but damn does it hurt to be an older gamer who grew up while Nintendo didn't. Their games are still fun, I guess, but...it's just not the same.

I dunno. Those 30 year old IPs have amounted to complacency, same ol' crap different day and boring to tears.

i agree about 'meh'. there's no reason to get a ps4 for what is essentially killzone and knack this year. if i want the multiplatform games on those machines, i could just get them for the ps3, without having to pay for online. xbox one is more enticing: it has dead rising 3 and crimson dragon, but aside from the console being a ridiculous $499.99, i don't want to contribute cash money to the business that eventually might make ownernship of physical games a thing of the past.

next year is a different ball game. we'll start seeing stuff that won't be crossgen ports, and some more appealing first-party titles. i don't think we'll truly be out of the muck until 2015 though.

Came here to say exactly this. He's not wrong at all. There's nothing compelling about either of those launch lineups, unless you're one of the five people who are frothing at the mouth about Knack.

The WiiU might be in a shit place, but the 3DS isn't, and the Nintendo lineup from now until holiday 2013 is solid. What the hell is he supposed to say that would make you guys happy when talking about the competition?

Additionally, I've been kind of out of the loop today, and this is a very slight derail, but Nintendo 2DS? Ehhh....
