Reggie Fils-Aime on Xbox One/PS4 lineups: "Meh"

When you look at the Wii U line-up, and the big game its launch prided itself on the most (some uninspired, tatty looking Mario title that was the biggest cynical cash-grab ever), then Fils-Aime ends up looking like such a hypocrite as a result. There's personal taste and then there's spouting horseshit that makes you look like a desperate fool.

We’ve got Zelda. We’ve got Mario. We’ve got Donkey Kong
You always have Zelda, Mario & Donkey Kong. Show me some first party new IP. Show me a game like Rime or TLoU. Then I'll be interested.
Until then, I'm sticking to PC & PS4.

Yeah I realize it's a blow to Nintendo. I was talking from customer's point of view and I'd argue that missing some bigger 3rd party titles is hardly relevant as long as the quality exclusive content keeps coming.

Their lies the problem no one knows if the exclusives are gonna keep coming and if the customers will want them. The gamecube and Wii are examples of this.

Reggie will Nintendo have 1 account system soon?

"We’ve got Zelda. We’ve got Mario. We’ve got Donkey Kong"

Why do most Nintendo games lack online modes?

"We’ve got Zelda. We’ve got Mario. We’ve got Donkey Kong"

Why do did you drop the Wii philosophy like a brick with Wii U?

"We’ve got Zelda. We’ve got Mario. We’ve got Donkey Kong"

Why did you pick the confusing Wii U name?

"We’ve got Zelda. We’ve got Mario. We’ve got Donkey Kong"

To these decisions one can only

Xbone launch seems aight, if games like Crimson Dragon deliver.
PS4 is less than meh, even after launch. Theres more I look forward to on WiiU next year and Im already greatly disappointed by that one.

I am not really understanding the appeal of Xbone, truly. Grey brown dudebro shooters? To each his own I guess. Knack on ps4 looks interesting to me, but not enough to buy a console, however it's the cheaper of the two, and I suspect PS4 will have more exclsuives and ones that are more varied and interesting than Xbone, so I would get that one next after Wii U.

Xbone literally looks like the EA box. Multiplayer bland grey brown as shit shooter games aplenty. I blame these companies, including nintendo for some of what brought us to the state of things. But I think a sizable chunk of the blame lies squarely on the dudebros and the COD's and BF gamers who have ushered in the era of nothing but multiplayer shoot the brown people in the head games and the awful DLC season pass crapfest business practices that have followed in their wake. At least nintendo is still trying, although...it's starting to look a little sad these days :(.

I too would love to see nintendo whip up some new shit, but look how well new properties go over....even in japan. Gamers are lettin me down...

We’ve got Zelda. We’ve got Mario. We’ve got Donkey Kong. In addition to great titles like Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101, I feel very good about our lineup

Y'all hear that? Take it easy folks. Don't all go rushing out to buy a Wii U all at once now...

I for one am not interested in the Wii U line-up at all. I think the PS4 launch line-up is perhaps just decent, but why compare PS4 launch lineup with Wii U over-one-year lineup? If you include stuff that has been announced for the the whole first year of PS4 it blows the Wii U lineup right out the water.

If he said "meh" to ps4/xbox one launch titles, I wonder what he would've said about the Wii u launch (if he wasn't part of ninty)

I think NSMB:U, Zombi U, and Nintendo Land is a better exclusive line up than what the others have, so I'd have to agree. I'm still buying a PS4, but it's only because I know I'll want Sony's eventual exclusives. I will probably like Killzone, but I'll forget about it a month after release and never touch it again most likely, unlike what I have done with Mario and Nintendo Land. I'd put some time in KI, but I'm not buying that system for at least another 1 1/2 years.

I guess if I cared about third party titles I may feel differently. Probably not though, since I can just get those titles on systems I already own.

Sorry but this post is such bullshit. Most of the "dudebro"( god that.s such a stupid fucking term") shooters you're complaining about are coming to both consoles. And saying that's all that's on X1 is ignorant as hell and only shows you have little idea what you're talking about.

I checked my preordered next gen console's launch lineup, and, discovering that it contained neither Mario, nor Zelda, nay, not even Donkey Kong, I cancelled the order immediately.

Should I get that Wii addon instead?

Is Nintendo really so delusional, that they believe that the wii u got any chance on the market after the xbone/ps4 launched?

Sooooo, they should just wave a white flag and say "buy a ps4, it's better"? It's PR dude. He was asked about how they compete with other console launches, he gave his company's inevitable spin on it. That's how advertising works.

Depends. Do you want console versions of Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong?

What's he going to say? "Yeah, we're fucked" that would be hilarious, though.

No, but the guy who said that they still have problems with E-shop accounts is better at PR than Reggie is. He would've said something like "People don't care about any of that! They want Mario. And we got it!".

Is it really necessary and smart for NoA to continue with this shtick? They're building up an image problem thanks to Reggie's insufferable 'tough guy' persona imho. There are other classier ways to say "yeah the competition is strong but we are stronger".

who cares about the comparison between launch titles on the next gen and available titles on wiiu. I buy a console for the future 3-4 years worth of games and not just the right here right now and as it stands ps4/xbone will have 10x the compelling software by the end of 2014.
Yup, I agree. Wii U will get Nintendo first party + scraps. If in a year Wii U is getting the multiplats PS4 and XBO are getting then I will chop off my willy and fry it in garlic.

I don't know for sure, but I've heard incredible things about Mario, Zelda, and Donkey Kong. I'm certain that any platform I choose to play Mario, Zelda, and Donkey Kong on, will be the right platform to play Mario, Zelda, and Donkey Kong on.

So how 'bout that 2DS?

The Wii U already launched though. He isn't comparing launch lineups, he's comparing Fall 13 lineups.

Reggie is probably self-projecting. As much as I like Nintendo's games, he should be critising his own corporation on that front. Especially with the "below-than-estimated" results they've been having so far.

But hey. Public Relations gotta be Public Relatin'!

Nintendo has been playing very thin when it comes to SW. Only recently have we had something acceptable but even then, it lacks severely.

As others have noted, the same Nintendo Mario/Zelda/etc machine is in full effect. I feel like we've been down this path before. I disagree entirely when it comes to comparing some good launch lineups on PS4/Xbone. Especially when you compare it to WiiU's launch and even their entire SW base after a year.

He can say what he wants but WiiU is a lackluster platform which needs a price drop with a pack in game not even a year after it released. That game is an HD version of a Gamecube game. I want to give them credit but when you hinge your efforts (partly) on an old game with your same old IP's then it's hard to really feel what's "unique" about WiiU.

He's wasn't comparing WiiU launch to PS4/XBone launch though, so why are you?

Considering he had a dig at the two upcoming consoles and their roster of games, it's only natural folks are going to call him out on the Wii U's lacklustre launch.

The Wii U already launched though. He isn't comparing launch lineups, he's comparing Fall 13 lineups.

Which makes him look like even more of a berk.

I would hope that after 25+ years of re-using the same formula and mechanics (wrong) that Nintendo's platformers would be good, that doesn't make me want to play them rehashed to infinity. I'd take a mechanically less competent title, yet innovative, different, and with superb production values like LBP

Wow, I didn't want to touch the rest of your post, but your argument is here is you would rather have something prettier that is that doesn't control as well and the gameplay is no where near as good? Why don't you give up gaming and just watch films? The graphics are amazing and the game play is really interesting.
