So, I've been trying every month since launch to get remote play working AT ALL for me and it just doesn't work. Whether it's directly connected to the PS4, over my wifi network, or over the internet, I've not once been able to play a game for more than two minutes MAX before it craps out on me with full blown connection issues. I get heavy lag, a garbled screen, and a little gray bad connection icon in the top left corner of the screen. If I try to keep playing in hopes that it fixes itself, it eventually gives up and disconnects. It's been completely unplayable since day one.
I have a launch day PS4 from Amazon and a launch day 3G/Wifi Vita. I've tried every solution on the internet (uPnP, port forwarding, QoS, static IP, etc.), I bought a new router (Linksys E2500), got a new modem (Xfinity's wifi station running in bridge mode), I have the system hooked up via Ethernet to the router and nothing works. I've tried switching between 2.4ghz and 5ghz, I've set every channel available, etc. It won't even work over direct connect! I can sit right next to the PS4 and it will have connection issues shortly after starting. I can connect over the internet from another location, and it still craps out on me (granted I've only tried this once). I have 50mbps cable internet, so speed isn't a problem.
The only thing I can possibly think of is maybe it's because I live in an apartment (on the top floor, if that matters). But I've never had any wifi traffic issues before and we have very thick walls. I've tried turning off everything in my apartment that uses wifi and nothing changes.
Has anyone else had these problems? I hear so many great things about remote play being a flawless, legitimate gaming experience, but I've never once been able to use it as more than a one minute gimmick.
