OMG i was reading the book and thinking Jean Reno would make the PERFECT Bezu Fache...then i check the internet AND ITS TRUE!

French actor Jean Reno has joined the cast for the movie adaptation of Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code.

Reno joins Tom Hanks in the Columbia Pictures adaptation by Ron Howard in which Reno will play detective Bezu Fache alongside Hanks' symbologist Robert Langdon.

Production will begin this year with a view to releasing the movie next May.

Tom Hanks is Robert Langdon (Im not happy about that....)

Hope Richie doesnt fuck this up, i love the book.

Also i wonder if the church will go nuts over this film, it pretty much makes the Catholic church out as murderers the whole way through.

Synopsis of the book for anyone that hasnt read it (for shame)

While in Paris on business, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon receives an urgent late-night phone call: the elderly curator of the Louvre has been murdered inside the museum. Near the body, police have found a baffling cipher. While working to solve the enigmatic riddle, Langdon is stunned to discover it leads to a trail of clues hidden in the works of Da Vinci -- clues visible for all to see -- yet ingeniously disguised by the painter.

Langdon joins forces with a gifted French cryptologist, Sophie Neveu, and learns the late curator was involved in the Priory of Sion -- an actual secret society whose members included Sir Isaac Newton, Botticelli, Victor Hugo, and Da Vinci, among others.

In a breathless race through Paris, London, and beyond, Langdon and Neveu match wits with a faceless powerbroker who seems to anticipate their every move. Unless Langdon and Neveu can decipher the labyrinthine puzzle in time, the Priory's ancient secret -- and an explosive historical truth -- will be lost forever.

Fache (Reno) is the french detective in charge of the investigation.

I like Hanks, but I can't see him as Langdon. Then again I wouldn't have seen him as that foreigner in The Terminal, but he pulled that off great, and Hanks is one of my favorite actors, so I guess we'll see.

Jean Reno rocks. Now all we need is Sophie Marceau and one or two or sixteen nude scenes are we're set.

they call me "Man Gravy".
haha, now that you mention it, I had pictured Fache as him during the book too. And it was completely subconscious, I had no idea until you pointed it out in this thread.

GAAAAAAAAY
I still don't understand all the hype for the book. It was alright, but not excellent. Subpar mystery novel with some interesting facts behind it.

+ 1 here.
I mean the albino assasin was pretty lame.
The movie might be okay though they'd have to pick up the pace a bit.

There's going to be a documentary on the History channel about "The Da Vinci Code" on Sunday. I am looking forward to watching it.

Sweet, I hope somebody rips it *wink* :p

So far I'm about 200 pages into the book. I think I know why people like books like this and Harry Potter - it's in the writing style. It's so simple, though I wouldn't say something like elegant. It's nothing special is what I'm saying, it sounds like (other than the content) something an eighth grader would write. It makes it an easy read to get into though, but I'm not exactly complementing the authors.

My interest in this movie has gone from zero to something above that now, thanks to Reno. He probably just learned from his past roles and offed his competition for the role. ;)

I know I said I wanted Sophie Marceau to play Sophie Neveu in order to do many nude scenes, but I am more than willing to compromise should we get to keep the nude scenes in and see:

Tautou To Play 'Da Vinci' Role

French film star Audrey Tautou is thrilled she's won the lead role in the upcoming film adaptation of US author Dan Brown's best-selling thriller The Da Vinci Code. The popular Amelie star, who is currently on screens in A Very Long Engagement, will play Sophie Neveu - the young French cryptologist assisting Professor Robert Langdon - played by Tom Hanks - in his investigation. The Professional actor Jean Reno will also star, playing detective Bezu Fache. Filming is due to start later this year - with a predicted cinema release of May 2006.

I actually pictured the inspector from Hannibal as Fache, but I admit Reno is a very good choice. I'm pretty interested to see how the movie will turn out, especially since I'm not very fond of the book.
