Repair PS3, or get data off of the harddrive?

Are there any options for getting a Playstation 3 repaired? I had it reballed last year, but it seems to be giving me a different issue: I press the power button, it beeps three times, and the indicator light flashes red. I took into the local cell phone repair service that also repairs consoles, and they did a reflow, but that didn't do the trick. I had a spare power supply that I put in, but that also didn't fix the issue.

I would like to get it repaired then sell it off (it is a 60 gig backwards-compatible model,) but I would like to get my saves off of the thing. Sony evidently can't, or won't do it. Their solution is for me to re-up my lapsed PS+ to retrieve my PS3 saves, but that does nothing for my PSX, and PS2 saves.

If I can't get the thing repaired, are there any ways that I can pull the saves off of the harddrive itself? I believe that Sony put encryption on there, but I hope that has been broken by now...hopefully.

As far as I know, the only way to get all of your data is to get it running again by having someone other than Sony repair it. Sometimes even they can't repair them, and any repair will only be temporary.

You can't put the hard drive in another system as it will reformat it.

I had to face a similar decision in early 2011. Luckily my unit was just slowly dying so it would still run. Migrated my data to a slim, but I still miss my backwards compatibility.

I just want to be able to pull the saves, then replace it with a slim, or super-slim (by the by, is one more reliable than the other?)

I don't mind paying money to get it working, but Sony doesn't want to help (besides having me go to the cost of sending them my busted unit, paying $149, and they will deign to send me another PS3,) and the local shop can't help me.

Edit: As another aside, the conversation with Sony's help desk was interesting. She wanted me to send my non-functional unit, and pay $149 so that they would send me another slim (or was it a super-slim?) When I asked her why she needed my old unit, she stated that they want to salvage it for parts to repair other units. This is curious as they no longer repair the old models, and I asked her that if they are repairing old models, why wouldn't they repair mine. She didn't have much of an answer other than they could still use some parts in the newer units. Is that so? I thought that the components, power supply, Blu-ray drive, chips, etc. were all specific.

my PS3 crapped out on me last month. i think it's the YLOD though. i've taken it apart but i'm waiting for thermal paste to arrive in the mail. i already got a replacement ps3, but i'm in the same boat as you. .... ugh.

The only way to get your saves is if you can get the machine working long enough to be able to copy them off.

i'm also trying to save all my WWE 2k14 CAWs that i downloaded. the game's no longer able to go online so all the CAWs i got are most likely gone. ugh.
