Report: Marvel’s Wolverine Aims for a 2026 Release; Venom Project Still in Development

The most important information we received from our main source is that Wolverine is still on track for a 2026 release, and Venom has been in active development. While we haven't been able to determine how advanced the Venom project is, if we assume Wolverine remains the priority, it's likely that the game is still in pre-production

There are also some details from the story that we got from a different source, but since we couldn't verify these, we recommend that you take these tidbits with a grain of salt. One of these would be that Eddie Brock will take the protagonist's role. This might seem obvious to some, given what happened to the last user of the symbiote in Spider-Man 2. Still, it helps us to rule out the possibility of other symbiote users taking the lead, such as Flash Thompson, who was Agent Venom in the comics, or even an original character. We also know that, at least visually, this Eddie Brock will be closer to his comic book counterpart, more so than his live-action rendition played by Tom Hardy in the Venom films.

On the topic of characters, the Venom game would also see the return of Cletus Kasady as Carnage, who was previously leaked as the main villain of the game based on internal slideshows from the breach. Additionally, Anti-Venom would be featured, but not the version controlled by Peter Parker. Instead, we would see the more monstrous-looking version from the comics that Eddie Brock eventually uses. As with Peter Parker and his struggle with Venom, Eddie can maintain total control over his persona with Anti-Venom, so this could play a significant role in the story.

As a final note, we've also come across some clues that suggest that Insomniac is currently working to include Miguel O'Hara, also known as Spider-Man 2099, in one of their projects.

A Venom game should be pretty straightforward, not a lot to mess up there. Wolverine on the other hand... I just don't think Insomniac can get out of their own way for that one.

Good to hear. I just hope the games actually feel different to play, and not just Spider-man again with slightly different combat abilities.

Cant wait. I didnt think a Venom game was still in the works, but I guess I confused it with the Venom DLC. I've tried to stay away from that part of the Insomniac leaks to know of their projects coming. Wolverine is just one of those characters you have to do right, or dont do it at all.

I think after the Dead Pool and Wolverine movie, Disney will be willing to grant Insomniac some creative liberties to make this game a little more violent than your typical Superhero game. At least as much as the last Wolverine game from Activision.

Since the leaks I abandoned any hope for an actual good game. All these ones great studios suck now.

Naughty Dog became Unnaughty, Insomniac marvelously bad, Sucker Punch straight out Sucks.
Santa Monica is left, but after Ragnarök I wouldn't hold my blades.

Don't get me wrong, Of course Marvel it's still popular, but I have the feeling that the kind of momentum it had when those games were initially planned is long gone.

Not only that but this fighting game smells like a desperate attenpt to get the kids back at Marvel.
Taking into account my bad experience with Fighter Z, they probably want some dumb down mashing button to win Marvel Heroes game so kids can jump in.

Insomniac being turned into a Marvel slaving factory for at least 15 years must be one of the saddest things happening to gaming in the last few years

All Insomniac was known for was the Ratchet and Clank games. It is a good franchise, but i don't think R&C can be improved upon much after Rift Apart. Spider-Man and Wolverine are completely different characters. The games will play nothing like one another. This is great for consumers unless you dislike comic book games

Venom from 90s Spider-Man Animated series was cool as hell. Venom in the game and movies sucks; hate the tentacle powers.
This pretty much wraps it up. Venom was cool long ago. He's been a flaccid character ever since. I guess flaccid characters are Insomniac's specialty these days, though.

You sure they won't play similar? The leaked Wolverine builds had him climbing buildings and then jumping from rooftop to rooftop. He may even find some ropes or chains to swing from.

I hope Insomniac overhauled their writing staff because Spiderman 2 was hot trash in that regard.

what a horrible take

Marvel is one of the top fighting game franchises.
