It'll certainly be very fascinating to find out why Nintendo has been so secretive about this device... Maybe one day we might even find out what was in those terrifying NDAs.

Are NDA contents ever leaked or shared after they expire?

Seemingly not for Wii U, and no rumors of it having 3DS BC, but there are some rumored Wii U ports and it's a safe bet that most every other Nintendo system will have VC available. Probably everything except VB, Wii U and maybe GCN and 3DS.
I am definitely down for some ports

So, I recently listened to Super Mario: How Nintendo Conquered America by Jeff Ryan on Audible, and related to what we've heard about the NX, the last few paragraphs struck me as potentially prophetic:

These almost certainly aren’t going to be what the hit games of tomorrow are. I’m not a game designer, and perhaps it shows in these examples. But there are currently two warring tribes consuming video games, and there’s no reason for them to be at war. It will take a few years, some olive-branch releases on both sides, before casual players accept a game with a story, and core players accept an activity without a game. And the first few games that try to bridge these camps may crash and burn, like Nintendo’s 64DD.

But I would like to, cautiously, and with a book’s worth of evidence as backup, make a claim about who will be the designers of the unified era’s first blockbuster title. Shigeru Miyamoto, in one of his last great performances for Nintendo, will use the knowledge gleaned from his shuttle diplomacy missions between the core and casual camps. He’ll understand what lizard-brain types of game play appeal to both groups, and what sort of structure that foundation would best support. Satoru Iwata, continuing a tradition, will premiere another new console like the Wii and the 3DS that makes up for in innovation what it lacks in horsepower. Reggie Fils-Aime will continue to merge the roles of hype man and president, tailoring his sales pitch to what people want to buy, not to what he wants to sell.

Nintendo will need a hook for this new console, a specific game that couldn’t be played, or conceived, on any other platform, even with down-to-the-atom motion sensing or a Beowulf cluster of processing power. But they’ll already have their star lined up. Miyamoto and Iwata and Fils-Aime will call up Nintendo’s most famous character, propelling him once more unto the breach. Super Mario will be back. And he will be as big a star as ever, in this new game that will unite the great schism of gaming. It will take a few years, and maybe a few misfires, but the plumber will reclaim his throne.

Assuming the rumors are right, and that it really is a portable system with detachable controllers that can be used as a tablet, or be played on a TV, this strikes me as something that would be designed to appeal to casual and core gamers alike, as Jeff Ryan predicted.

Anyways, I just though this was an interesting take, and wanted to share.

I'd love to see all the VC titles that are currently out right now be out day one when NX comes out. Or even better, all the VC titles currently on the Wii side.

And VB would be great. Won't happen though... /sad

I think the Wii side stuff is going to be impossible unfortunately because of licensing. That's why I made these threads, to help us all pick up what we need before it eventually closes down:

Let's look back at the Wii Shop pt. 1. - what are the best Wii Shop VC games?

Let's look back at the Wii Shop pt. 2 - what are the best WiiWare games?

I'd hope and still hope they will gain more traction since IMO there's a lot of good discussion to be had there, esp. about hidden gems.

Anyway, like you I'm hoping very much for no *third* drip-feed. Let's get all the Wii U VC there day one.

I didn't. Just that I've seen better evidence it's Nvidia then a hybrid.

Maxcriden has a sealed envelope of mine he's saving for NX reveal lol.

Me Talking about AMD, Polaris, or x86 home consoles is a good way to get an NX thread closed so I stay silent. I just don't think eurogamer told the whole story. Parts of it are missing.

If Nintendo isn't as powerful as X1 at base at least(via scd or not), I don't see them getting the 3rd party AAA western support back. They will get a few, but they will wain off. Japanese support and AAA 1st party support will be strong as ever though. If it is indeed a hybrid, people will still see the NX as a home console that is competing for sales with PS4 and Xbox One, one way or another.

If they could risk selling at a loss at first at launch to have their NX Hybrid as powerful as Xbox One, it could be worth while. I'm sure the technology is there to be an efficient portable that at least has 3-5 hours of battery and doesn't overheat like crazy.. Just sell a portable x-box one to ps4 powered handheld in power, at $200-299 Nintendo, and you'll be good. $250 is the sweet spot.

Nintendo doesn't need to win the console war this generation in sales. They can't beat Sony, and unlikely Microsoft. But they need to get their 3rd party AAA publishers back since the 64 days, and they need to sell those ports at a profit(a good few million) while getting the hardcore base buy a NX.

So... we still expecting this to be announced this month? I know there's nothing to go on aside from the Eurogamer rumor, but if it's coming out in March it should be soon. But we're into September now without an event announcement of any sort and I don't really see Nintendo using TGS for the announcement. I've been patient about the reveal and was okay that it wasn't at E3, but... yeah I'm getting tired of waiting now lol

All indications are western third parties don't give a fuck about the NX.

NX is looking like a 3DS-2 with Nintendo home console games on it.

Too early to tell for now. But Nintendo needs to care about them. CoD fanbase, madden, battlefield are significant chunks of a pie.

Screw'em. 3DS was successful without them and if they can hit a good price point I expect this thing will, at the very least, turn a profit.

The DS didn't need AAA 3rd party support to sell well. Neither did any of the Nintendo handhelds.
I don't think it's too necessary to compare console offerings to portable offerings as long as the price is right

Nintendo doesn't have a consistent brand that they can use for the NX like how Sony & Microsoft have PlayStation & Xbox, so they need the time to engrain the idea that the new system is a Nintendo system in the minds of consumers. Not to mention that Nintendo's coming off of an all-time low concerning their consoles.

Nintendo needs all the time that they can get. 5-6 months is around a reasonable amount of time to do so.

I wonder how this thread is for people who know/have seen/have worked on NX. There are definitely a few and probably even more than that...

I imagine they would just be laughing uncontrollably. Personally, if I theoretically knew what NX was and thought it was cool I'd feel an excitement for everyine else to see it. Kind of like when I get someone a present that I know they'll love. Excited, but also jealous that they get to see it for the first time.

The NX is a new product with a "brand new concept", it is a video game machine which can't be compared to a mass market product like a Smartphone that has yearly revisions which people are familiar with.

The NX is coming off the Wii U in which Nintendo reps must be working their asses off at that GameStop Conference happening next week(?) to sell the idea on the NX so that GameStop buys more units than what they would take for pre-orders.

Retailers have to manage inventory for NX units and software which take up more space than a mere smartphone.

Time has to be spent to market this new product especially before holidays otherwise people will have got their dollars worth buying a different product and may not have the money for a new system with games.

It's also been pointed out that the original iPhone and Apple Watch were revealed around 6 months before release. It became shorter because later products were revisions with predictable announcement cycles, let's not forget the brand power and marketing Apple has to sell an expensive product.

But as I mentioned numerous times, most of those who want those games already have a PS4, XB1, or PC. Most Nintendo gamers don't give a fuck.

I know many that would give a fuck. Nintendo has arguably the best exclusives. That plus +AAA 3rd party games with a decent online service+affordable price -= winning.
