I think a conference is waaaay more appropriate than a Direct. A Direct is overly tailored to the Nintendo faithful, which Nintendo needs to extend outside of. Beyond that, they can still control a conference to a certain extent, including lots of pre-recorded material. They can still slip in their Nintendo Direct meme generating bits in some form.

And how many people outside of the Sony faithful watched the Playstation meeting yesterday?

Pretty much. The mass market isn't following any of this stuff. They'll only begin knowing about it as ads rollout, word of mouth spreads, and products hit shelves.

I did :p. Haven't been PS faithful for about a generation and a half now (I.e. since I faithfully bought a PS3 and was disappointed with it) but I do hover on the outside to see what's going on in mainstream console gaming.

But yeah, I'm just a gaming enthusiast.

A conference may be more apt because they would have actual press present= more coverage and exposure. A Direct may have that effect as well, but an actual conference is more appropiate for the industry. That said, they could just do a Direct to control the message as well and have the press do hands-on to report.

The thing is either way they would need to actually INVITE the press, and I think we would have heard SOMETHING if it where happening in the next couple weeks. Has there ever been a press invite where it hasn´t leaked to the public at large regarding a high profile release such as this?

I did because I wanted to watch a conference from a company who doesn't have one foot out of the door on console gaming.
Sony are going mobile too...

My bitch ass finna pick up that new Galaxy 3DS because of this NX debauchery

Kimishima: All according to Keikaku.

This is only Nintendogafs fault and you know it. We always overhype ourselves and never learn.

It's not our fault to actually expect Nintendo to reveal their supposed flagship product.

Yeah, just abandon hope and wait. The announcement will come in due time.
I'll just play Monster hunter, Ace attorney and dragon quest until this.
Could be worse.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
This is what i'm leaning towards, but full reveal will prob come in Dec, but we will get the concept and a few games in a Direct this month

I generally think any month except December would be a good month to do a full blowout. The holidays will take away a lot of attention. They'd be well advised to stay away from that month.

I'm not that bad, i just don't put that much stock in anything that hasn't been fully revealed yet, that includes dates. Stuff changes all the time and god knows why Nintendo didn't reveal the system yet, so i just take a wait and see approach to anything gaming now a days.

I think Nintendo will release it in March because they kind of have to to save their fiscal year. Short of the thing being a complete fucking dumpster fire, I think it's out in March regardless of how ready they are for it.

Nah, Super Mario Run will make enough to placate investors. The only risk is they pressure Nintendo to drop consoles altogether and run leaner, concentrating on low budget, high reward mobile games.

You seem to be part of the problem. They may not want to announce the thing until they can squeeze the most sales they can get of that new 3DS.

P.S.: It does look positively gorgeous though...

No way they do a conference, a nintendo direct is the best way to control the message.

1) they will announce it in a nintendo direct and a treehouse live
2) press will get to play it later, youtubers too

The Sony faithful is the bulk of the market at this point, to be honest. They've already taken Xbox and Nintendo's customers. Nintendo needs to lure people away from their competitors or make a new market.

I don't disagree.

after the Wii U I would take a delayed NX over them getting the launch off on the wrong note

Sony seems to be burning a lot of goodwill with the PSPro so I am less worried about what the NX is at this point because everything seems weird right now

Stop expecting an announcement to come. If you focus on an announcement coming each day the wait will just feel longer. It'll come when it comes.

This is the way and the truth. The more I check this thread, the more I expect an imminent reveal. Leaving it be for a few days restores sanity.

I'm not talking about the quality of the product.

The presentation was dull as dishwater, and there I've seen more charisma in a cheese sandwich than in everyone at that presentation put together. The whole thing was bad, and made the whole brand look worse for it.

Okay. But you watched the presentation, right?

I have this funny feeling that we'll just never see it lol..

Like the Trump Hillary Debates.

All this build up for nothing.

I'm not necessarily saying that you're wrong, but what are you basing this on? I haven't studied the reactions to Pro and am pretty ambivalent myself, but I always kind of figured since the rumors started that this was a pretty low-risk move. Yeah, it may not catch on, but the Slim is still there for them. I don't really feel like it needs a ton of consumer enthusiasm to justify its existence given that it's not pitched as a necessary upgrade.

This thread has been nothing but reveal date speculation for the last couple of pages lol.

I guess this thread is now the defacto NX speculation thread?

The Sony conference was boring because it is just an update to an existing console and was entirely focused on that 4k/HDR upgrade, which most people can't take advantage of yet, with no new software being shown.

The NX is a brand new console with a new concept and will be accompanied by new software announcements. It's impossible for it to be that boring.

-

Both could happen, but I don't think you need a big event solely to reveal the price and launch date. There's no reason those things can't happen at -this- event either.

Nintendo has done what you're proposing before, yes, but not with a brand new system announcement.

Oh, yeah, I agree with everything you wrote here. For some reason I don't think price will be till later simply because it gives them another opportunity to hype at an event again before launch but really they could do either and find another way to keep hype up. I guess regarding the conference thing, you're right that it's a new system so boredom is hopefully off the table but my concern is more in regards to the possibilities of screwing up a live event for the public vs. a direct or digital event. With the latter they control the situation entirely, at least in terms of getting their message across in the way they want to, with the former though they could have another Skyward situation or just risk people getting annoyed with the potentially slower dips during the ebbs and flows live events seem more prone to.

Yep. It'll be there for the hardcore PS consumer, the 4K TV consumer, etc. while not really doing anything to burn normal PS consumers. Sure, the conference was lackluster, but it is not like they're trying to sell the PS4 again or the PS5. I don't see how this hurts Sony, but it'll probably help them around the edges with some niche audiences.

...

Now if people were absolutely crazy about it, that could drown out NX. It's just that people not being absolutely crazy about it doesn't afford NX a special opportunity.
