Well, not to add fuel to fire, but, my colleague picked up his PSP and it has the UMD pop out defect. And it's pretty bad cuz you close it and it pops back open again.

As for me, when I view my photos on the PSP and hit the "Display" button (which should display the data information like JPG format, resolution, etc), the PSP locks up and shuts itself down after 10 seconds. This might be a flaw in the OS, anyone else get this too?

i dont believe this.. i bet those psps are photoshopped.

uh oh..

this guy on another board gotan import psp.. and is having tons of problems.

he's a resident nintendo hater.. but his opinion is pretty trusted. at least by me.

first the good:

(edit: btw battary indicator came on at like 5 and a half hours now for the PSP, I'm not running it dead though to get some final result)

Gets kinda warm, I can't believe they didn't mention that in the previews. In fact I just realized it's when the device has been on that loads times take closer to half a minute than the 10 or so seconds when I first put it back on to play.
Analog control is weird, but cool, too. It sometimes clicks though, like at a random angle/position. Feels like a tiny bump just got passed over or something, but it isn't in any one direction that cuases is.

Kinda warm the device, and the load times are just weird. The same exact thing that takes like 5-10 seconds to load can take like 15 or so the next time you run it.

the bad:

But what's been annoying me on RR since I got it, is the game occasionally looks like when you disable vertical sync to the retrace on a PC monitor, except the 'tear' lines are multiple and evenly spaced, like 8 or so running from left to right, especially noticeable when you take a fast turn.

Analog's frickin broken already. I have to move rapidly the thing back and forth to regain control of the car, and the f*cking thing is clicking like mad.

f*cking disappointing piece of sh!t after all. Maybe 10 hours of use and it's blown. And I ain't getting no replacement any time soon.

but, eh, the battery life wasn't too bad on medium light.

Gonna see if I can get a couple DS's for friends' Xmas gifts. Not gonna re-import, that's what I get for not listening to people. Doh... so pissed

The a-hole I got it from is telling me they're all running hot and load times slow down, the screen's choppy, etc. Well he's gonna take it back, so he's not an a-hole, but not getting me DS's.

The import guy's telling me all my little issues except the analog stick going on me are normal. That would include the load times getting longer as you use it longer and it heats up. Why didn't anyone make a mention of this? Especially the heat issue, my palms sweat from it.

Most people claim that it does not heat up, though. He's one of the first I've seen complain about that.

well, it could be that the import shipment from the store was damaged or something. he actually acknowledges this possibility... but who knows. im going to stick with the wait and see attitude.

That whole post read like bullshit anonymous. Not a single person has mentioned heating; and in fact there have been several places that have stated the exact opposite. Now this guy has heating problems? Load times fluctuating? IGN timed Ridge Racers on three different occassions and came with the exact same times.

Tell your friend to take pictures. Of course pictures won't be able to show the heat but... let's see what he can conjur up.

The REAL PSP does not have white shoulder buttons.

I especially like how the shadow of the PSP in the first pic doesn't cast in any way on to the DS, creating the effect of the DS floating above the desk.

Gamespot's PSP apparently has faulty batteries that lets them get less than a third as much Ridge Racer gameplay out of it as everyone else can manage. Does that count?

And what's so funny? It's true. Look at the thing. It's basically got a matte finish while you can hardly hold a flashlight up to a real PSP without blinding yourself with the reflection, and it looks like all the buttons and the control pad are just pictures on a piece of paper or something.

At first I thought making the headphone jack yellow was a stupid desicion and looked gaudy. Then I realized that yellow is going to be really fucking useful in the dark when you're trying to plug in your headphones.
