Get out of your bubble, liberal. I mean, just look at all these non-white....

Oh.
Whether he is right or wrong, using the most elite of the 1% class to try and represent the average white rural male is hardly convincing

It seems the question "is it better to be a man or woman" was never asked. It was 2 questions. Is this a good time to be a man and is this a good time to be a woman. It's a totally different framing of the problem that can be interpreted by the subject in an another way.

Like, is this a good time to be a woman, yes, compared to my mother women have it easier now.

Is this a good time to be a man. No, my father had it better than me. He always had good work and could afford a bigger house.

This could simply mean that the person questioned looks more the past for answers than the future.

As a man I can walk alone at night and even during the day without the fear of being raped or murdered. Being white also adds the extra bonus of not being afraid that a cop will do the murdering. So... yeah.... no.

These dumbshits just miss the days when women and other minorities "knew their place."

Remember, this is who Democrats should re-appeal to!
That's true lol, maybe Hillary would have won PA if she told Crazy Granpa that she feels sorry for how persecuted white men are.

They also asked if equality had been reached yet (trump voters said yes) and did interviews.

It's sort of a rotten joke but looking at that data it seems that republican men might have a distorted view of how hard women have it because they treat women better than democrats but assume that democrats treat them even better. Republican women are feeling much less gender equality than democrat women.
That's an... Interesting interpretation.

The guys 81 and likely senile. Maybe all of his friends are dead and his family never talks to him because of how miserable he is too. Sucks.

McKeesport is kinda shithole too.

And politicians listen to him because he actually votes.

This is really half the problem with getting things done in a nutshell. Not voting and being active in politics cedes the sphere to people like this.

Or

Or

You're making excuses to obfuscate the obvious.

Because Democrats aren't having this issue

The only people thinking women have it better are from the group that most opposes women's rights.

Compared to your father do women have it good now though?

Nah. There are some areas like in college sport opportunities that women have it better than men, but for the most part men have more opportunities.

maybe it just turns out that a huge segment of the white male population has gender dysphoria and this is their way of staying closeted

or alternatively a huge segment of the white male population are douchebags

who can say for sure what is true

These women have it so good that the country just elected a confirmed sexual predator into the highest office of the land!

Wait...

Are you basing that on the data showing Republican women feeling less discriminated against? This could be explained by Republican women being much more comfortable with traditional gender roles. Anecdotal, I know, but I have a Republican friend who is about to marry a nurse (also Republican). One they're wed she's going to stop working and stay at home. It's super old fashioned and it's a lifestyle women fought to break out of, but this woman in particular is happy with it and doesn't find it oppressive in the way some of the liberal respondents to the NYT poll would.

The Post-Truth train is full steam ahead I see.

Fox News and Breitbart will be patting themselves on the back for the next four years. They managed to get every idiot in the US under the same banner.

Someone should show them that Lois ck but about being white.

Fuck, I'm not even white, I'm Latin American but I'm a man and even then I know I have it better than women have it in this world simply because I have a penis. I don't have to deal with sexism, with inappropriate people trying to talk to me or the dread of being out at night alone that something could happen.

Want to shed light on things such as the increased suicide and incarceration rates among males? Great, go ahead!

Want to imply that because of those issues males are below literally everyone else and must be given the highest priority? Yeah that's some hot bullshit right there.

Sure, I get that. But it's also hard for someone to be "white men are the lowest on the totem pole" when they, by an overwhelming majority, control most of the world's wealth.

If life is getting harder for the average white rural male, it's because everyone else has been trying to get an actual slice of the pie, while he's been auctioning off greater slices of his pie to the super wealthy via way of conservative politicians. So of course it seems like everyone is doing better than him. He had the most to lose.

If you think there is no sexism, just look at the gender split in American politics or economics. Then to calm down, just watch one of the many big budget movies starring and/or directed by a woman.

Republican men are all about acting tough but once you criticize them they all act like complete babies.

They can't stand other people having a voice.

This is just a classic example of feeling persecuted because you're not used to actual equality. When you're priveleged, anything helping others seems like a direct attack against you.

Well, there's a very interesting question in the poll results about how much of the responses are self-determined bias in perception rather than reflecting any objective "truth" about the current state of gender equality, and it's not just a republican one. For instance, there's the massive gulf between women saying sexism is a problem, and the number who say that they've actually felt the impact of sexism.

Entitled as ever. They're really fucking self-absorbed. Oh no, the white male isn't completely dominant anymore so that means life must be worse for me now! Fuck outta here.

Republican men follow the pattern (and greatly exceed!) of how young boys tend to perceive inequality where there is none. Boys tend to have a sharp drop in sexist opinions as well as denial of gender inequalities at age 20. Most research I've read in this area agree that it's a matter of exposure to the opposite sex as well as education. The more isolated you are in your group, the less realistic your world view will be. Seems to fit republican boys club members as well.

Stats from my municipality (in Sweden):

(In school)
Boys are given better opportunities than girls (Agree)
14 years - Girls 5%, Boys 5%
17 years - Girls 5%, Boys 5%

Girls are given better opportunities than boys (Agree)
14 years - Girls 8%, Boys 25%
17 years - Girls 3%, Boys 15%

The same study shows that boys perceive their ability to exert influence in school in all areas as being higher than how girls perceive their own ability. Heh.

Women have beaten them in terms of education for decades, actually for centuries, but in the good ol' days, women won't pursue more than secondary education. I can see how republicans are afraid now.

Dennis Halaszynski, 81, is a retired police captain in McKeesport, Pa., and a registered Democrat who voted for Mr. Trump. ”It's easier being a woman today than it is a man," he said in an interview. ”The white man is a low person on the totem pole. Everybody else is above the white man."

The struggle is real

They also asked if equality had been reached yet (trump voters said yes) and did interviews.

Gender equity has different definitions, it's true, and we know that there is a sharp split in the educational information the internet feeds to people of different political tribes. For a right winger equality might go no further in definition than old equal pay and opportunities legislations of the past. But democrats are constantly fed stories about equality of outcome such as women being under represented in certain fields.

Bullshit, Black males are the most likely by % of population to be murdered but white males are the highest overall.

White males are also the most likely Group to commit suicide. But apparently things are fine for white males? There a disproportionate bias that white males don't have many concerns. Responsibility of being the bread winner - while women have less opportunity in the workforce it can be conversely true that men have no choice but to be part of the system even if they hate it. Loss of income and job (which we saw plenty evidence of in the election), financial stability, family connections being cut off through divorces and loss of children. There is plenty for the low income white male to be concerned about

The old guy in the article is dumb, but some of the group piling on white males in this thread is just as bad

The numbers on the 'Religious Views' entry are fascinating. Right wing Christians truly believe they are a marginalized population.

No, things are not fine for white guys. But things are objectively and substantially better. All of that shit going wrong applies to every other group.

if 100 white males get killed out of 1000 total

and 99 black men get killed out of 500

whos more likely to die?

Guess what? the US population of whites is way way way way higher than any other race. of course they are more like in some situations to have more total deaths but total and percentage matter in this specific case because we're talking about likelihood of an even occuring

Disregarding that a race that makes up the majority of the population is going to be more likely to be murdered, when discussing matters is race it's important to look at who is more likely to be murdered due to the color of their skin, and black makes win that contest.

As for the rest of your post, of course white men have problems. However, statements claiming they are on the bottom of the societal totem pole are absurd.
