It's legitimately terrifying how so many friends have turned their backs on me and believe that I'm a goddamned monster ever since I got banned.

If they turned their backs on you because you dared to express yourself in a thread on the internet, not to mention a site that wants you to follow the ParteiLinie or you are an enemy of the forum proletariat, than reassure yourself that those aren't really your real friends.

I got banned for talking about how Asian males are typically seen in the dating world as unconfident and unassertive. I'm an Asian male myself. If you take a step out into the real world and actually talk to women, you will hear the same shit echoed. Now mind you, this isn't me saying ALL Asian men are like this, but how they're generally viewed in the dating world and why on almost every dating site Asian men are the least desirable.

I don't understand how there's no nuance with them. And a billion posts replying how what I said is disgusting? I don't get it lol.

Nuance is lost upon them. I was told to go fuck myself because i dared nuancing the VC4 scene and why people flew in a rage unjustly about it.

The latest scandal is if IGN is objectifying women because they allow one of their hosts to *gasp* pick their own clothing. Obviously they never heard of the idea that women will put on the clothes they want to wear and some candid shots are definitely meant to attract attention. And there is nothing wrong with that. Its taking advantage of what someone has naturally. I don't see the issue in that. (And yes, i am a male. I guess saying this makes me sexist.)

Its funny how some folks in that thread are essentially trying to dictate IGN that what she does is wrong and objectification of oneself (WTF is this even?) only to turn out that they are listed as male themselves in their profiles.

Perhaps its just jealousy, perhaps its easier to use virtual pitchforks instead of actual ones, perhaps there are other reasons, but there is literally no nuance whatsoever to be found.

Also, what even makes people want to be like this? Is it just self-serving to feel like your moral compass is in tact or what? I truly don't understand why you can't even have a civil discussion about anything without getting banned. It's literally their way or the highway and their way is always correct lol. It's really actually some lunacy.

Trust me, if you actually would incorporate every little thing ERA has suggested that should happen in real life, not only the quality of life would go down, but everyone would be a shut-in person posting and advocating hate speech on the Internet.

As much as Reset through its forums and its Discords wants to make you think that everybody else is on the wrong side of history, there really is no clever incentive behind them. Its just a reversed 4chan, a hate machine dedicated on promoting the little issues in life. They don't know how common their problems are because they never go out in the real world anyways, so they can't really speak about it in the first place.

Also a gross assumption, but from some users who have 20k+ posts, which amounts to posting 80 times a day and still claim you have a job besides that, i reckon they are caught in a web of lies.

And remember - Resetera is supposed to be a site about predominantly gaming. Yet Gaming is actually the more decent place to stay in and Etcetera is far more (in)famous in this industry. They aren't contributing to a healthy place, they are actively damaging it.

It's frustrating to see people who actually believe that this site is the same or worse than Resetera when it comes to being some kind of echo chamber.

If I made a thread on Resetera about how I think Ford never proved that Kavanaugh did anything wrong, the only possible outcome would be that the thread was locked and I was permabanned.

If I made a thread here about how I think Kavanaugh definitely did something wrong and Ford got screwed, there are multiple possible outcomes for how it played out and none of them would involve the thread getting locked and me being permabanned.

I don't know how anyone could overlook such a simple difference between the two sites. Resetera has mandatory/allowed opinions that you cannot deviate from. How is this site even remotely comparable to that?

Some people are not worth your friendship. It can be a hard pill to swallow, cos most people want to be liked by as many people as possible and to also like as many people as possible, but that's not always realistic.

I've had a couple of people cut me out of their life when they found out I was an atheist. People who, up until that point, clearly liked talking to me. Now, I'm not going to go grovelling to them begging for forgiveness when I haven't done anything wrong. If they are so intolerant of others that they'll cut people out of their lives over something like that, then so be it. That's really the way you have to look at it when it comes to SJWism too, which is a religious cult in itself.

If it were only friends I had lost it prolly wouldn't sting so badly. But losing a nearly decade long relationship? That... that has been difficult. I at least appreciate that she taught me many lessons that I may have never learned if she were not trans. It was a bitter pill to swallow, I just need to recognize that such things are typical for lessons this difficult. That does not mean they are not worth learning, however.

It wouldn't be so difficult if I hadn't immersed myself so much in their damned cult(ure). I have been spending time reconnecting with a lot of irl friends who I had pushed away because they weren't fucking PC enough (thankfully they understood) and have been making huge steps to improving myself in many areas of my life. Exercising first thing in the day, meditating, working on my addiction to junk food and soda, I could go on and on with the tiny changes I'm making to lead to a better whole. Hell, convincing myself that waking up and immediately reading internet forums is not in my best interests is huge in and of itself.

Just gotta keep pushing. Gotta keep moving forward.

I've never had the chance to talk to someone with that history and honestly it is something that would be enormously educating for me (and probably others) if you could share something about it. Obviously I imagine it's also quite painful to share so feel free to tell me to piss off if you don't want to talk about it.

I have shared it in the off topic forum before. Never made a thread or anything though. I thought about sharing my story on ERA at one time, to show how people can change and wake up from an ignorant or racist views. But then over time realized if I even admitted to such a thing, I would get a lifetime ban.

I was brainwashed at a young age and my insecurity and victimization of being jumped by a black gang at age 12, was used to manipulate my mindset into one of hate and ignorance. I grew up in a predominantly minority neighborhood, so received a lot of hate for being white.

It is predominantly the pedantry on display here; there is a near instant label as a negative entity as soon as you speak up. I think that's where ERA cuts too many corners to be taken seriously.

On Resetera, there's no such a thing, to them complaining about removal of tit sliders is tantamount to advocating for another holocaust. Here, you could've rejoiced for the outrage about VC4 and Tomb Raider misogynistic violence (?) and all the censorship you wanted without getting banned, but there you could only get outraged and that's it. You could get shit on? Yes, and it happens both ways. In between the cyclist thread and the npc thread I can count at least 20 lifebans going by 2012-2017 Neogaf, which is a very brutal standard to go by.

Depends which discussions you are referring to, so if you have any examples, that would be great.

The Rockstar threads for instance are still up despite it tones being pretty direct. It manages without staff interaction.

We also just had a whole thread regarding this exact same thing you are talking about, that focussed on political threads. Perhaps that is what you are referring to? That topic can be found here.

Saying Site A is an echo chamber without pointing out an example of such isn't the same as proving Site A is an echo chamber.

Users in this thread say Site B is an echo chamber but they do point this out with Banbot links or other evidence.

GAF isn't VOAT. VOAT considers nearly every opinion as one done by autists and wishes people would die in a shed (And in that order).

I didn't realize there was a thread on this or I would've been in here sooner. I was one of those who migrated to ERA after the whole ordeal last year. At first, I thought it was great and things were going smoothly. It wasn't until about 3-4 months ago, I started to hate it. I just wanted a forum to chat with people about games and not get all political. The constant threads about "this game is sexist" are ridiculous. Dragon Quest XI isn't sexist... Puff puffs are a joke. People need to fucking chill. Everything is offensive and demeaning towards women and it turned into a haven for the type of extreme leftist views that I don't care for.

I'm unsure if GAF is extreme right like everyone claims, honestly seems more mature over here nowadays and politics are relegated to its own section.

I was on the fence about coming back here since I always heard the bad but that's probably the whole echo chamber idea that everyone is talking about.

I recently got a 1 week ban from there for being anti-censorship in the senran kagura thread because they manipulated my words to claim that I was defending sexualization of minors. What a load of crap. First, it's an anime game. Anime ages are pretty much BS when you have sexualized characters like Yoko from Gurren Lagann or even Misty from Pokémon to a lesser extent. Second, don't treat me like a pedophile for not liking censorship. Seriously, fuck that. I just don't want decent games to potentially pass on an English localization because of how Sony is censoring now. Even Omega Labyrinth looked kind of fun but lolnope.

Definitely a longer post but I needed to rant about this since I've been pretty pissed about it since it happened on Friday. Sorry if I missed the point of the thread

At first, I thought it was great and things were going smoothly. It wasn't until about 3-4 months ago, I started to hate it. I was on the fence about coming back here since I always heard the bad but that's probably the whole echo chamber idea that everyone is talking about.

I recently got a 1 week ban from there for being anti-censorship in the senran kagura thread because they manipulated my words to claim that I was defending sexualization of minors. What a load of crap. First, it's an anime game. Anime ages are pretty much BS when you have sexualized characters like Yoko from Gurren Lagann or even Misty from Pokémon to a lesser extent. Second, don't treat me like a pedophile for not liking censorship. Seriously, fuck that. I just don't want decent games to potentially pass on an English localization because of how Sony is censoring now. Even Omega Labyrinth looked kind of fun but lolnope.

Definitely a longer post but I needed to rant about this since I've been pretty pissed about it since it happened on Friday. Sorry if I missed the point of the thread

Nah you're pretty much on the dot with everything you've mentioned so far. ERA takes just about everything way to serious and you can tell they do since someone brings out some vague topic that barely relates to the actually thing, and next people are writing the next encyclopedia on why this this and that is wrong and you should feel bad for your opinion. It's like a cookie cutter method on their end on how you make something like pedophilia relate to Senren.

I didn't realize there was a thread on this or I would've been in here sooner. I was one of those who migrated to ERA after the whole ordeal last year. At first, I thought it was great and things were going smoothly. It wasn't until about 3-4 months ago, I started to hate it. I just wanted a forum to chat with people about games and not get all political. The constant threads about "this game is sexist" are ridiculous. Dragon Quest XI isn't sexist... Puff puffs are a joke. People need to fucking chill. Everything is offensive and demeaning towards women and it turned into a haven for the type of extreme leftist views that I don't care for.

I'm unsure if GAF is extreme right like everyone claims, honestly seems more mature over here nowadays and politics are relegated to its own section.

This reminds me of that Voat community that is dedicated to hating NeoGAF. They claim they were tolerant but then go crazy when you disagree with them . Kotakuinaction is like that too.

I don't think anyone was offended. People just wished for you to elaborate on your point as it seemed rather misguided.

Perhaps you are still open to discussion? I assure you, we will not downvote any of your posts. Disagreements are welcomed as long as they are supported. It's just when people say nonsense that they don't bother to justify when they are mocked.

Well, I'm back I guess. They gave me an infraction a few days back because I said something mild someone thought was racist (which wasn't- someone even pointed it out) and then I was banned for being critical of the CW Supergirl show which they said was inflammatory. Of all the things to ban me for, they're going to ban me for that? Of course you can't even contest the ban or complain or you'll get perma-banned. lol. Forum was getting boring anyways.

But then again I can't create threads here anymore because some years back I started a "There's two tits outside my windows" which was a bird thread. I thought I was being clever.

It's all the Millenials who were brought up thinking any kind of dissenting or opposing opinions are wrong/bad. Kind of sad really. I mourn for you guys.
