Resident Evil 4: GNC vs PS2 Comparison

RE4 is the best looking game on Cube. Technically it's outstanding but the production values are what take it to the top. For that reason I reckon it'll be the best looking game on PS2 as well despite the downgraded graphics.
it is NOT the best looking game on ps2.

Huh, I wonder if I should even consider buying the PS2 port. I'm looking for the best presentation here, I suppose the GC version would be good to go for.

Or, I could just buy both.

Hmm.

My only real complaint is that we didn't recieve an Xbox version so we could have the graphically definitive version and the content definitive version all in one nice little package. Especially since 360 is getting RE5 I'm pretty confused why they haven't done this.

360 RE4 is inevitable. Think about it.

1) Capcom is already invested in 3D development on the 360.
2) They've already got these great assets sitting around, assets that haven't even been fully exploited due to various limitations of the two previous versions. Assets that will certainly be more detailed than some of the quick ports by 360 publishers like Activision.
3) They won't make money on RE5 until 2008-2010.

Not making 360 and PS3 versions is like turning down easy money. The costs to port should actually be much less than on the PS2.

But of course they can't mention any future gen plans yet, they need to sell a lot of RE4 this xmas.

Does the PS2 RE4 announcement ring a bell?

Do the lousy sales of the Gamecube version ring a bell? Look at how many people at this very board passed on it for the PS2 release.

You think they don't learn anything?

Are you predicting that RE4 won't be out next gen? Are you serious? Quote it, say it.

well I am sold... the GC definately has the better graphics. Glad I have the GC version. Save me the $50 on getting the PS2 version.

Whatever.
really? i could of sworn silent hill 3 had a long list of graphical features that re4 didn't have. oh, and theres mg3...and zoe2 too. almost forgot...gow and sotc! :)you're silly, you must've forgot!

You call nearly 600k sales in NA lousy? It's outsold all previous RE games on the GC, even the mighty-selling Remake. The poor Japanese sales can be directly atributed to the PS2 announcement, too.

Also, Capcom estimated they'd sell 1.8 million copies of RE4 worldwide. Guess where they are at right now.

Come on, guess.

Wow, it outsold games that people had already played before. There's a huge accomplishment.

But what I really want to know is, are you predicting no nextgen RE4? Say it!

I think you need some reading comprehension lessons :)

My quote is in direct fire to yours about saying they (Capcom) won't reveal anything so as not to hurt PS2 sales.

Guess what? Capcom hurt GC RE4 sales by announcing the PS2 version, there is no denying that. There's no reason to believe Capcom WON'T announce a further port, based solely on their past history.

I don't understand where the confusion is, but whatever.

Bite me, I read at the third grade level. :)

OK, RE4 sales weren't lousy. I still don't think we'll see future repeats where Capcom overlaps announcements to that degree (especially when release was a year away). Maybe I'm wrong, we'll see.

I wish Capcom would pump out an Xbox port, then we could get the best of both worlds (GC visual detail + PS2 widescreen/extras). I'd be a nice move to prep the fanbase for RE5 on 360 too.

Capcom would need to upgrade the lighting for an proper Xbox port. Too much work for a near-dead system, I think.

I doubt that. All that would be needed would be GC's visuals + PS2's 24-bit color and extra content + true widescreen.

Now THAT would be the definitive version.

RE4 again on next gen? Beermonkey, perhaps you really are a simian!:D

Also saying the Gamecube RE4 sold poorly shows your lack of intelligence (and inability to check facts).

Naw, a direct port would work fine. And I bet RE4 Xbox could still push a good 600k+ worldwide if released in the next 6 months.

The only thing i care about is when i plug and play the PS2 version i don't see a difference.
Those who said the difference is HUGE really don't know how to express themselve.
"huge" is a way too strong word here imo. Huge is like RE4 vs Code Veronica. This is where "huge" begin.

The real difference between RE4 GC and PS2 is that your have to compare them side to side to see a difference. Wich means the difference is damn small.

Oh, no, you've got me. I'm a tard!

(and inability to check facts).

Oh, believe me, I see people frantically updating their posts after running some quick Googles after they post. Me, I acknowledge that I'm not 100% right about everything all of the time. Of course, that's a sign of intelligence. Your chest-beating makes you look like a stupid ape. Evolve, primate!

The real difference between RE4 GC and PS2 is that your have to compare them side to side to see a difference.

Are you telling me that if you switched to the PS2 version after playing the GC version, you wouldn't notice the difference?

Wasn't RE4 ported to PS2 due to shareholder requests? I don't know if there is a large outcry for a RE4 port for XBOX (failed in Japan) or XBOX 360 (untested). Yeah, you can say XBOX sold well in US and Europe, but Capcom's shareholders are Japansese and probably just look at Japanese performance.

Is there a large outcry for RE5 on 360? After all, it is untested.

Well, they went through the trouble of killing exclusivity deals to do the PS2 port.... so why not pump out a quick Xbox port and rack up an easy extra 500k?

Shareholder's specifically requested RE4 on PS2. Capcom executives are putting RE 5 on XBOX 360. There is a big difference.

So why should an Xbox port hinge on shareholder demand? Why can't the execs see a golden opportunity to rack up extra sales and strenghthen the brand?

It's real easy. GC has a graphical advantage over the PS2 version. It looks better. Period.

The PS2 has more extras than the GC version. If you care about that stuff (it's all fluff to me personally), then the PS2 version is the version you would want to play.

The whole "widescreen" issue doesn't mean anything to me at least since I don't have a widescreen TV. I suppose if thats important, from what I have read in the past, you would want the PS2 version.

I've completed RE4 3 times. Excellent game, but I don't love it enough to pay 39.99 for some extra modes. As a matter of fact, I loved the extra modes in the Gamecube version much less than the regular game.

I just copped the GC version a few weeks ago. Game is pure greatness.

Not too far in, but I already don't want it to end.

That's how I felt. I never finished the Ada mission. It didn't feel well balanced to me. But maybe that's because I was used to controlling Leon. Anyhow, the extra stuff in the PS2 version is fluff to me.

These are the same execs who didn't see a golden opportunity on PS2.

They probably didn't think it was worth the effort of getting out of deals with Nintendo plus forcing their relatively anti-PS2 development team to do it. But now all that's done with, so why wouldn't an Xbox port make sense? The hard part's over, so why not?

Maybe they want all possible/available resources working on RE 5 and an XBOX or XBOX 360 port of RE 4 would take away from that?

Surprising difference in some shots in favor of the GC version. Regardless, it is still very much RE4, a game that deserves support on PS2 as well.

From the screens and videos I've seen of RE4 PS2...I think MGS3 takes the cake. Easily.

"From the screens and videos I've seen of RE4 PS2...I think MGS3 takes the cake. Easily."

... easily??

*scratches chin*

I don't think so - either way. It certainly isn't "easily" better.
Both are 30fps so they are BOTH crap. ;)

so - we have Jett saying "From the screens and videos i've seen..." it's "easily" bested by MGS3...

well, if it looks better than the GC version, or on par, then "easily" wouldn't be a word i'd use.

what are you qualifications on this one Endymion? 4 hour play test? 2 hours video viewing over the internet? screenshot? gut feeling? fear?

What , man, out with it ! or is it just speculation?

MGS3 has muzzle flash effects. SUPERIOR TOTAL. ;)

The extra missions are not reason enough to buy this game if one has already completed the GC original (except fot die hard RE fans, of course). If, however, one has never played the game before, the PS2 version is the version I'd recommed. Virtually equal graphics and more extras.

In screens the GameCube version looks quite a bit better, but in motion I can't tell the difference. True widescreen and extra content should give the PS2 version the edge. I'll be renting it just to play all of the new content.

I'm just happy more people will play this awesome game.
