Resident Evil 4 Remake: Exclusive Chapter 5 Gameplay Walkthrough by GameInformer

I'm starting to think a certain few individuals here are trolling. Some takes are so delusional to the point they read like a parody twitter account made simply for triggering people.

I am fully waiting for someone to come out and say that the company logos in the original are better than the entirety of the remakes or something.
Let me trigger you once more: I like an old game better than a new one.

That's a perfectly reasonable take.

My favorite RE game is RE1 for the PSX.

I've beaten it more times than any other RE game and at irregular intervals I tend to think about it and replay it via psx emulators.

I know it looks like shit, in todays standards. I know the controls are clunky, the story is bogged down by horrible VAs, the animations are wooden and robotic, and I understand that almost every other RE that came afterwards improved the formula in every single way.

Still, it's my favorite RE game. Due to nostalgia, due to the emotions it gave me when I played it for the first time ... it will never be 'surpassed' in my head by anything that came and will come after.

I know the latter games look better, play better, sound better. I know they are better games. But I still consider RE1 for the PSX my favorite.

Not the best RE game. My favorite RE game. There's a difference.

Wow, this looks way worse than i was expecting. The lighting is completely off, the blacks are crushed, half of the time the characters don't even cast shadows, the rain looks bugged...

This looks like a fanmade Unreal demo.
Same thoughts. I don't see how they couldn't put this out on last gen a few years back. Sure it has better framerates and Leon's hair flaps around but that's it. It doesn't look much better (or better at all) than TLOU2.

It was impressive back when we first saw RE7 and RE2 remake but now it's getting long in the tooth. There's only so much times they can impress with the same engine doing the same stuff.

It *is* a PS4 game, after all.

RE 96 is my favorite too. The graphics are great if you have appropriate hardware. Not as good as 2 or 3 but they still hold up really well. Playing on a pspgo hooked up to a Trinitron via component cables, you get actual 240p and it looks phenomenal. Same with the Saturn, it can do native RGB w/ the retrovision component cables, game looks great but the faces in the Saturn version are completely fucked compared to PSX, lol.

I asked you first. What evidence are you basing the claim that it's modern Resident Evil fans that enjoyed RE2R, and not fans who've been around since the originals. Either present your case or go crawl back in your hole.
That guy is channeling reddit and doing a great job of it.

2make is great, I was born in 85, I've been a fan of RE since it released, it was the game that made me want to leave the N64 for PSX.

The whole notion that "new fans" only like 2make is a take that is dumb beyond measure.

I think 'old game' geniunely looks, plays, and sounds good though. Better than its sequels and modern games even.

Well, that's the pill I can't bring myself to swallow, I guess.

I can understand you loving Street Fighter II more than say, Street Fighter V, but thinking that SF2 looks, plays and sounds better than V is where I am like, nah bruh ...

So let's agree to disagree. Peace!

Why? There's nothing objectable about thinking that. How about SF3 Third Strike? Or SFA2? Is it ridiculous to think Third Strike plays better and has a better aesthetic than SF4?

Why would I play Mario Bros when we have Bubsy 3D? What kind of crazy pill are you trying to make me swallow here? New game is better than old game, simples as.

Also usually I avoid new game footage before playing, I watched the RE4 footage and I'm undecided but it was mad disheartening to see Leon crouch-walk up to a Ganado and do a stealth kill. I never want to fucking crouch-walk in a video game ever again much less in Resi 4 the GOAT

I can accept the occasional misfire. I consider RE6 to be worse than RE5 and a LOT worse than RE4 in terms of atmosphere, gameplay, stress inducing wise and soundtrack wise. But I think it's better in terms of visuals.

SF3 is a lot closer to SF4 than SF2, and a lot more experienced than SF2 was, so the thought that one considers it artistically and gameplay wise superior to SF4 isn't as far fetched in my ears. It almost sounds to me like someone visually preferring RE2make to RE4make. It doesn't strike me as weird.

Well there you go. It shouldn't be seen as absurd to like a old game over a newer modern one, even if one may disagree about gameplay and what not. Super Mario World's gameplay mechanics don't become invalid or less fun simply because there are newer platformers where you can triple jump and air dash 360 noscope. Likewise Yoshi's Island art and visuals aren't made ugly by newer and more technically advanced games, whether 2D or 3D. Personally I think Street Fighter 2 Turbo is one of the best fighting games ever made, I don't really see it as inferior to SF4 or 5, which I also enjoyed.

There you go! This I can agree with!

See: "So this is what Capcom's RE4 remake looks like? I guess it's more of the same RE2make aesthetics but with a few different assets ... and more combat options for Leon to better emulate the feel of the original. The usual tier of visual fidelity Capcom had us accustomed to. Going to enjoy this once it comes out, though I *STILL* think the original is a beloved classic that will never be dethroned in my book."

and compare it with: "Oh my God, this looks like total dogshit! How the fuck did Capcom fuck it up so much? It looks fucking horrible and the visuals are total crap! It doesn't have any soul, any artistic merit, nothing! Looks like an indie game some fucking loser did in his basement while toying with the UE5 engine!"

The first sentence is a statement / opinion I can fully understand and respect. The latter sounds like someone who is pissed just for the fuck of it, and their take is so extreme I cannot take it seriously.

To go back to our SF analogy, I cannot understand how someone can think that SF2 looks perfect and plays perfect and AT THE SAME TIME, think that SFV looks like 'total dogshit'. I can get 'it's not my style', I can get 'I prefer 2D art', I can get 'I love retro', but to call a very well detailed and animated 3D anime style as 'total dogshit' sounds like a complete and emotional hyperbole to me.

That's all I'm saying.

At the same time, a game can have a lot of detail and still look ugly or unappealing, like this remake does. If they fixed the lighting and contrast I wouldn't be so harsh on it.

Let's see how the game will look in decent screenshots (those from Game Informer were very bad). Even if it's not to your liking, pretty sure someone will mod the lighting to something resembling the original.

You first:

Because most Resident Evil fans agree that it is, and it's one of the best selling and best scored entries in the franchise. I mean it's really that simple, there's no need to deep dive into it.

That guy is channeling reddit and doing a great job of it.

Nah, you're just angry because somebody told you the truth: RE2R is a mid game.

lol, seriously, what reddit thread clued you into neogaf? I haven't read comments as ridiculous as yours in years. Please, keep at it, it's really entertaining to watch some doofus coming in here swinging his e-dick around like he has some kind of authority on what people are allowed to enjoy.

Not THE truth. YOUR truth.

Huge difference, there.

Objectively speaking, critic-wise and player-wise, this ISN'T a 'mid-game'. In your head, maybe. But objectively speaking, it's been praised by critics and gamers alike.

He's gotta be trolling at this point for shits and giggles. When was the last time you saw someone act so childish in this forum? There's a lot of dumb arguments going on in each thread but this guy takes it to a whole new level with antagonizing people.

Dude is channeling this kid in spades.

Even if 2make really is a mid game, who gives a shit? People are allowed to enjoy whatever they want. There's plenty of "mid-games" that are some of my favorite games of all time. Looking at you Vampire Hunter D on the PSX.

Preordered. Played the original on GameCube and hated the controls and replayed it about three years later on Xbox but still hated the controls. Love the atmosphere and story but the controls were dog shit.

I think something like that could be very useful in a game like this. If ammo is scarce, I could see stealth kills as a viable way to conserve ammo.

See? It wasn't that hard to admit it :messenger_winking:

I'm sorry you've very upset at how alone you are on your opinion on RE2R. It's going to be okay, and there are plenty of resources out there to help you. Here's some links you may find helpful for you to cope and move on:

I can actually understand this sentiment perfectly, SF2 does great in the style not absolutely flawless but good enough that I'll think it's pretty regardless of age. it's going for. On the other hand I think SF5 creators made some bad moves and now despite having a lot of good going for it there is stuff that are parts of the visual that you can't ignore.

I think something as simple as a bad colour pallete can mean despite having super realistic face models and perfect enviromental textures people will still be totally justified in calling your game hideous. Like if someone boosted the cotrast and saturation of horizon by 4x, or turn the contrast way down on Resident Evil 2 remake.

While there may be objectively good or objectively bad things about art how much weight you give to those things are subjective.

The fact that the torches were completely blown out and the colour of the rain is bright white surely means something was off.

Most people set the brightness / contrast wrong on the recent resident evil games so I imagine it was messed up here too.

DuskGolem claims Capcom is aware of the rain feedback.

What I’m wondering is if this wasn’t an early build, and the rain really does look like that in the final version, so they even have time at this point to fix it? Game is coming out in what, 5-6 weeks?

Dusk claims the game is done. All that Capcom is working on is optimization, which probably includes making the rain look nicer.

You do raise an interesting question, though. How far along in development was this footage? I guess we'll know in 6 weeks.

Good point! It could be a case of the Game Informer guy calibrating his screen to a point he gave the game a high contrast. *IF* that's the case, Capcom should never allow people to do that because it can harm their marketing campaign.

Again, *IF* that's the case.

Its just like streamers increasing the brightness when they played dead space so people could see it clearly. It's wrong but could be the issue here.

Re2remake was good but i also vastly prefer the original.

And it's not a matter of being nostalgic, i also vastly prefer rebirth over vanilla 1.

To me it seems a case of worse art direction first and foremost, it really looks bland compared to the other remakes they did or main entries like recent 7 or 8.

It doesn't look any better at the very best.

Re engine was incredible for the past gen but they forgot to upgrade the whole thing for the next gen like guerrilla did with the decima engine or like ue4 to ue5.

It still looks good, but hardly anything impressive.
