RESIDENT EVIL 6 |OT| No Trope Left

Before I pick, is there any preferred route through the campaigns?

It's how I've been playing it, it's fine so far!

I've only played a little of Leon's first chapter and I'm really liking it so far. A lot of it feels like a logical progression of the RE formula.

The melee system is way better and I love the contextual kills.

The graphics are super blurry though and the inventory and menus seem a little busy.

I just got the OT subtitle.
Laugh at me.

Also, how does this compare to RE5 or Revelaitons? I don't own anything that can play this (unless it's coming out for PC eventually), but a friend of mine is interested in getting it for 360 and wants my input.

I picked up the game this morning and played it pretty much all day with a friend and I can't believe this game such low reviews. I agree with the criticisms about the overabundance of quicktime events and cutscenes, but the core game play (the shooting, dodging, melee) is really fun and I think at the very least it deserves a 6 or 7. There are some weird design choices here and there though, and in general the game doesn't feel as well thought out as it should be. But there's nothing so bad here that it stops me from enjoying the game.

Anyways, I played the game co-op split screen on professional. Me and my friend made it to chapter 5 before we had to stop, and we put in about 10 hours (there were lots of deaths). We played Leon's campaign and I have to say it's pretty inconsistent. I really liked the first and fourth chapter, but the second and third are so weird,
where you're practically going through the center of the earth in these incredibly strange underground caverns and fighting a giant shark on a water slide.
I also though the story was really disjointed, and pretty much demands you play the other campaigns in order for it to make any kind of sense.

A few notes though, when you play split screen co-op you actually do share dropped items and you can give each other stuff as well. It just doesn't work for online co-op. Another thing was that the 1.02 patch was causing problems. It kept crashing at certain points saying it failed to access game data. I had to delete it before we could continue playing. Not sure if anyone else will get that, but I figured I would put it here in case.

I just realized something. Items work very differenly in splitscreen and online coop.

During online, item drops are client side basically. If an enemy drops an item, it's only for you and only you can see it and pick it up. And if there's a grenade on a table, both you and your partner can pick it up.

In splitscreen, any item can be picked up by any player and then it's gone. But you gain the ability to give items between players. There's not even a distance limitation to this, you can do it whenever.

I WANT ONLINE TO USE THAT SYSTEM >,< It's frustrating to play mercenaries and be in a situation where your partner needs healing but you are at max health, so even if you have healing items you can't do anything to help your partner (unless they go into dying state).

I think that's one area RE5 was superior. I really liked the sense of cooperation with being able to see your partner's HUD and inventory, and be able to manage your items with your partner and give them what they need.

Finished two chapters of Leon and one for Jake. Impressions so far.

I like the relationship between Jake and Sherry so far. With Jake being the "I'm just in it for the money" roguish character and Sherry being the Naive good character. I'm sure as time goes on, they'll meet somewhere in the middle. Nothing too original, but the performances for both are good and i'm buying it so far. As far as gameplay for Jake goes. It's ok. I'm not a fan of the chase sections, his enemy types so far are quite annoying and i had some scripting issues first time with the
helicopter
section. But I'm digging the
nemesis style character
and i liked the first proper combat encounter with him.

Leon has been good so far. First chapter was good. Definitely great to have some urban environments back and it captured some RE2 vibes at times. Second chapter had it's moments, but wasn't too crazy about those
puzzle rooms in the catacombs. Dodging laser guided arrow statues and pointing lasers at mirrors isn't a fun diversion so much, as it is just doing brain dead puzzles for padding.

I think i once laughed at a quote from Destructoid concerning Sonic Unleashed. To paraphrase it, i think it went "It's as if someone baked a fantastic cake, but threw some rusty nails in it". When Resident Evil 6 is good, it's definitely good. But i feel as if they attempted to pad it out too much and it isn't to the games aid.

Despite my negative tone though, i'm still having a blast and definitely don't regret buying it. It's just a case of enjoying it, warts and all. Also to the games plus. I'm really getting a feel for the combat and it feels very rewarding. I absolutely love pulling off successful dodges and counters, and flying down on your back with a shotgun and unloading, makes you feel like a badass. =D

Was planning on starting co-op with a friend tonight but he couldn't make it. Instead I spent a few hours playing the Prologue and Mercenaries mode. Enjoying it so far. Mercenaries gave me some time to get comfortable with the controls. Playing this at E3 set my bar pretty low, and from what I've played so far it's been improved quite a bit. I guess I'll really see when I play Chris' story since that's all I got to try beforehand.

I'm all for "over the top" action, and QTE don't bother me in the slightest (I loved through Ninja Blade and Asura's Wrath) so I'm really looking forward to playing this. My only worry is the campaign may drag on too long but I guess we'll see.

I grabbed the Archive Edition for 360, and wowee Code Veronica did not age well at all.

Strange how they handled the inventory system. They made the AI completely unbothersome which is nice. The splitscreen co-op is the same as RE5, but now the online you're solo in terms of items. I suppose having both people able to pick stuff up had to have something to balance it.

Yeah, I just mentioned this two posts up. I thought maybe they changed it in the full game and when I first played co-op split screen it kind of threw me for a second where I was getting frustrated that my friend was taking all the items, lol.

I can understand why they did this for online though, seeing as how other people will take your crap, but if you're playing with a friend you invite to your game it should work the split screen co-op way. At the very least give the option to change it.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
So what is the recommended timeline for a playthrough? All of Leon, All of Chris, all of Jake, Ada?

Or Chapter 1 of each, then 2 of each, etc...

Just curious if there are thoughts on this yet.

Okay, what the fuck is with the checkpoints in this game? I just got to the third train part of the sewers, got hit by it because there was no QTE prompt, died, and had to start all the way from the beginning of the sewers. really?

I have to say the prologue is pretty damn stupid. That + the first segment of Leon's chapter being the demo made for some control oddities, with the random forced walking and not being able to aim or do anything else. I hope the game doesn't do that much.

I enjoyed the rest of his chapter atleast. Playing around with the 2 merc maps I have open is already a lot of fun.

I'm enjoying it so far. Finished chapter 2 of Leon's campaign. This game is ridiculous -- in a good way. I'm also enjoying the co-op. Played through both chapters with a random person and they did pretty well! I can see why someone could dislike it though. It's pretty much a balls to the wall action game. It felt like I was playing Left 4 Dead at some points.

So Sherry
has her RE2 outfit as an unlockable costume? I mean, not even resized to fit, she just wears it as short-shorts and cut-off shirt?
Okay, I am sold now.

Just wait until you die at the end of a LONG ass chase scene and get to do the whole on-rails Crash Bandicoot running shit all over again

Played three chapters today, 2 of Chris and 1 of Jake. I'm having fun with this game, I don't know how people can say that it's a "bad" game. It's a flawed game for damn sure, but it's still great fun. Look foward to eventually getting to Leon after completing Jake's Chapter 2.

Just a side note, for Xbox 360 when you press game details for any game it'll have related games to the left. I've been noticing that some game have some seriously weird related game. For example, Marvel vs. Capcom Origins had the related games: Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, and Crackdown. The reason I bring that up is because it's at least within the ballpark compared to what Resident Evil 6's related games are. Brave: The Video Game, Let's Cheer, Nickelodeon Dance!? All Kinect children games. I don't really care about whether it's supposed to work, but I got a pretty good laugh at how God awful the related games can be at times.

I've been looking forward to a new RE since I finished RE5. Between the demo, the reviews, and the GAF impressions, I think I will end up passing....

Sad day.

Did anyone buy any of the costumes off RE.net yet? Are the loadouts different from the alt costumes?

Sad day.

It's better than RE5, though. I don't see how anyone who liked that game wouldn't get some enjoyment out of this one. Did RE5 have even one memorable moment or great boss battle? I guess executioner guy is sort of iconic but even that whole sequence is just a rehash of RE4's village.

RE6 just has much higher highs, I feel.

Chapter 3 w/ Jake and I just can't get into it at all. I was hoping I would love Leons sections since they seemed more of a throwback but they aren't. Nothing is scary, or atmospheric. I know I was ripping on the game earlier but I am honestly just kind of bummed.

Wesker & Jill fights?
though I agree this was better imo.

I've beaten Chris' Campaign. If there was a great boss fight, I must've missed it.

I'm Just gonna play thru each scenario as they are listed in game. Leon, Chris, Jake. I'm on chapter 4 of Leon's and I really can't see how this game is getting such negative reviews. It's far from a masterpiece but it aint no 4.5 either. Hell, Helena's and Sherry's asses <3 plus mercernaries are reasons enough to give it at least a 7.

Leon's campaign done, the last half not as good as the first half due to the game becoming a QTE fest. But still some incredible stuff. I'd give Leon's campaign an 8. If you HATE QTEs drop it to a 6.

Let me break it down:

Chapter 1: The Tall Oaks stuff is like a RE2 remake we never got. I love the variety of the enemies, they keep surprising me with new twists. The locations were much more like ORE than the newer games.

Chapter 2: Loved the focus on puzzles and the great boss battles it had. The cemetary felt like the hedge maze of RE4 and of course the outside of the church. The lab stuff was really great.

Chapter 3: Again some neat co-op moments. The bridges provided some intensy moments, especially when a fat zombie starts to change at you on a narrow bridge. The shark was AMAZING.

Chapter 4: The beginning of too much QTE. It starts at the end of Chapter 3 and keeps on going. Gone are the long segments of solid gameplay and now every few moments its some cutscene or QTE, then a big boss battle. Still crazy stuff happening.

Chapters 5: Again its basically QTEs and boss battles. The bosses are pretty great but can be frustrating at times as some of them dont show they are being damaged all that well. The final boss while amazingly epic was too long, especially if you die after like 7 minutes of fighting it, which I did... twice. The story was damn exciting and I loved the Leon and Ada interactions. That said it really does feel like its just a tiny piece of the larger story, in no way can you say this gives you a satisfying feeling in terms of a full story.

Onto Chris which I think will be my favorite.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but if we stop in the middle of a chapter on online co-op after the "Saving..." points come up, would it be alright to quit out and start it again later? There wouldn't be a problem with either of us getting the chapter trophy or anything, right? Thanks in advance!

Edit: Never mind, my connection decided for me to find out for myself. Thanks anyway!

Out of curiosity, is there any particular reason why it should be played in this order? There's no indication in the menu selection, and it even makes it look as though Leon's should be played first.

I just started playing today, and I'm really confused as to how the inventory and save system works. So, there's no overall inventory anymore a la RE5, and there aren't individual saves anymore a la RE4... so, if you want to replay a level, you always have to start each with an empty inventory unless you are continuing from the previous chapter? That's unfortunate, and really discourages you from playing through with different friends at different times. Could someone let me know if I'm missing something here, or if this is actually the way the game is set up?

Also, the chapter select seems weird too because I just beat Leon Chapter 1 as Helena in a co-op game... got the medals and finish screen, but I can't select Chapter 2 in the Chapter select (want to switch back to Leon). So now I have to do Chapter 1 all over again with Leon? It seems like a needlessly clunky system.

Finished downloading but will only be able to play it tomorrow after work :(

The XMB screen and preview video for the demo is better than for the full game, that's weird.

It's not the recommended or the way you should play, but the chronological order. The order you want to play is up to you.

That chapter playthrough is definitely recommended.

We can't really talk about why it works so well without ruining the game. >_>
