I prefer the final boss fights for Leon and Chris (but I still thought Jake's final boss was cool). For optimal enjoyment of Leon's final boss (which has five forms in Ch. 5), know that for the second form, there's a climbing segment where you have to hold one button and then tap the other, and then alternate. Actually, it's the same climbing you saw at the end of Jake's chapter. Leon's boss was a long fight -- some say excessively so -- but I loved it. Each form was so cool and it felt epic fighting each of them up close and personal. :)

NOW FOR MERCS TALK:

Steel Beast finally clicked for me in Mercs last night; originally it was my least favorite map, but now I'm really digging it. I think Sherry Ex. 1 (the schoolgirl outfit) is my favorite character: the shotty is usually a one-hit kill, the Bear Commander is great as a machine gun and also has a grenade launcher alternate fire, and then you have two red herbs for mixing (provided you find the green herbs!) and some incendiary grenades. Plus, Sherry is leggy and runs so fast (or at least looks that way), which makes tracking each Time Bonus so much fun. :)

NOW FOR SOME DLC TALK:

They needed to release extra maps, like, yesterday. I want the preorder maps (Catacomb, Rail Yard and High Seas Fortress). I also wonder how they'll release the other four (Requiem for War, Rooftop Mission, Creature Workshop and Liquid Fire). I -also- wonder how long the timed 360 exclusivity for Siege, Survivor and Predator modes will work. And when will Ada be patched for co-op, and how will that work exactly, given the grapple points and other parts that seem more suited for one-player? And I wonder if Agent (Ada's supposed co-op partner) will be made available for Mercs? Is it true he has some of the takedown moves of the other characters, and if so, why ones? And as for the Retro skins, do they have their own unique loadouts? I wonder when they'll be available?

SO MANY QUESTIONS!

I can answer the question about the retro outfits at least. You can edit the savegame to get them unlocked (it's actually possible to do the same thing with the Agent. If you look at the leaderboards, you might spot a few people already using him), and if you do so, the retro outfits use the same loadout as costume 1 and 2. The retro costumes are referred to as costume 3 by the game.

So when you say "the same loadout as costume 1 and 2," you mean the same loadout as the "joke costume" and the alternate color from RE.net, right? (Which answers another of my question, namely, whether the RE.net color change skins have different weapons)

So tell me this, Sectus: It seems clear that the four non-preorder DLC maps are for Mercs, right, and not just Siege, Survivor and Predator? And it seems clear that Agent will, in fact, be a Mercs character? And what takedown moves does he have that he borrows from other characters, and what is his loadout?

The RE.net alts have the same weapons as costume 2. It's just a cosmetic change.

Yeah, the RE.net costumes and retro constumes have the same loadout as costume 1 (each character's alternate costume).

Based on how the files are organized, I'm very sure each map is playable on every mode.

Video link above has a video of agent with his correct moveset and loadout, I'm pretty sure that's how he'll be when he's officially available.

You need to shoot his weak point which is his heart. You know the red thing.

Then attack it while it is in its cocoon and after that run up to it and press R1 or RT.

So since Mercenaries is so much fun and Capcom will undoubtedly be releasing maps for it over the next several months, I have gotten the co-op itch and am trying to decide which of the FPS games coming out this year will have the best co-op component to complement Mercs. What do you guys think: Halo 4, Far Cry 3, or Black Ops 2? Halo 4 has Spartan Ops, which is a set of 50 co-op missions that will be released over the course of 10 weeks. Far Cry 3 has a set of 4-player co-op missions, but I'm not sure how many. Black Ops 2 has a zombie co-op mode, but I imagine killing zombies in RE6 will be infinitely more fun than killing them in BLOPS 2.

Are you guys getting any of these games?

I'm pretty sure Agent wasn't even done.

When Sectus mined the disc, Samurai Chris has Jake's melee moves....

The odd melee moves in that video was modded in by me. I suppose there is a chance Agent will be different when he's officially available, but I really doubt it.

I'm not. Not that I have anything against these games but my money is finite so I usually buy niche stuff first unless it is something like RE or something.

I think the only game I am guaranteed to buy for the rest of the year is Halo 4. Everything else can be rented until the obvious day after thanksgiving/holiday sales.

I want Jill and Claire in Mercs.
So, what exactly 1.02 patch does? Cant see any changes.

Maybe it's related to the digital release of RE6 on PSN, I'm not sure if all the problems of that were fixed.

I'll just stick to Mercs. I really like the score attack style of the mode, and I haven't tried any other shooters which has been able to replicate it well. I much prefer the combat mechanics in RE6 over other shooters as well anyway.

They should release a "Partners" pack with Jill, Sheva and Claire for Mercs, and then a "STARS" pack with Rebecca, Barry and Wesker.

You're welcome, Capcom, send my check in the mail.

I'm more hoping than characters they may do what people have been asking for years and recreate old RE locations as Mercenaries maps for DLC. I think I and many others would pay for a mercs map based off of the RE1 Mansion or the RPD Police Station.

For example, the final boss in the fourth campaign on professional was mopping the floor with me. After a third try, in less time than my first attempt, and with poorer performance from me, it suddenly dies. It seems the game knew I was struggling and it handed me victory.

There's a very specific method to delivering the killing blow, you may not have realised how you did it. It can take forever if you don't and mere minutes when you do.

I don't know if those locations would really work for mercs, with hallways and separate rooms and all that.

If we're just spitballing then I think those location would work great with a slightly different type of mode. Survival mode or something: waves of enemies, infinite (or maybe 150 max lol)? Progressively harder. Spread resources/weapons all around the map and two (or four) player teams would have to manage them and how they move around. Do you want to fight this particular enemy in an open area, or maybe lead them into a choke point... do you want your partner up high with sniper rifle running overwatch while you melee/CQB. It could be pretty damn fun I imagine.

Maybe start with a basic weapon, and have enemies drop keys and shit to open certain areas for better pickups?

Not sure how you could score it, but I bet they could think of something to keep it interesting beyond just surviving each wave.

I know other games do the basic version of this and it can be a little bit boring of a mode, but with locations like the RPD station or mansion, and with the combat and enemies of RE6, I bet it;d be way more fun than what you get in something like CoD zombies.

Shit, they basically already rebuilt the mansion for RE5...

The odd thing was it constantly did the thing where it goes back to human form for a bit and it can be staggered for melee. My second run and third runs however, he would only turn back for a moment but wouldn't stagger. That fight is confusing.

I was thinking of this, but I also think it;s possible as there are lot of sections of RE6 that are designed with small halls that work find. I just think they might have to scale things a bit up, but I think it'd be more than possible actually quite a few rooms in both the mansion and RPD office are of good size. That's partially why I said based off of as I know some of the clutter wouldn't translate well into rolling and all that, but I think with some scaling it could surprisingly be quite fun. I'm keeping in mind the modes as well as you'd have to also allow the Ustanak to freely travel the map for the upcoming Ustanak mode, but then some of the doors are low-cut in Mercs mode (like the buildings in Urban Chaos) so I assume they have a solution for this, something like walls the Ustanak could destroy could work out wonderfully.

I would love another mode but I don't know how realistic that might be to expect outside of the fore-coming Mercenaries modes.

I wonder what sort of enemy arrangements they will use in future Mercs maps. Do the Mesets appear on any of the current three maps? (They're the bird-like creatures that hatch from cocoons in Jake Ch. 2) What about the J'avo mutation with the tough splintered torso, or the one that unleashes green gas? I know the one with bee stinger heads that spews out red gas appears in Rail Yard.

It would also be interesting if they threw Rasklapanje in as some sort of unkillable uber-enemy you have to avoid while getting the other 150 enemies.

I don't believe the Mesets appear in the three pre-order maps. I only have the Catacombs map, but I know a bit about the others. I know in the Catacombs you get the undead zombies, the regular tougher enemies are Whoppers, Super Whoppers, and Lepot'tsa. The secret boss is one of the raptors that shoot needles.

High Seas Fortress uses J'Avo, has a few variations, but the secret boss is that swarm of bees.

Rail Yard is J'Avos, I know they have some different types of J'Avos in it, and the secret boss is the boss Jake and Ada fight in the campaign with the chainsaw.

Chris' campaign complete. Lots to like, lots to pull your fucking hair out over, like snipers whose bullets follow you through a dodge-roll or break your coup de grace animations. But to the credit of this campaign, at least they didn't bother with the pretense of puzzles like some of the sad shit in Leon's story.

I have high hopes for Jake's campaign. Watched the first chapter, and it looks like it could be the best of the three.

Something iv'e noticed about Resident Evil 6 and even Resident Evil 5, is that obviously Capcom is trying to westernize the game play, but does anybody find the enemy designs very "Japanese" looking compared to the rest of the series? Resident Evil always seemed to have simplified yet grotesque looking creatures that had a more western look to them.

Resident Evil

-Hunter
-Chimera
-Plant 42
-Tyrant
-Lisa Trevor
-Yawn
-Neptune
-Spider

I would say they are all very western looking

Resident Evil 2

-Lickers
-Crocodile
- Mr. X
- Birkin (all forms)
- Plants
- G Type

Resident Evil 3

-Nemesis
-Brain Deimos
-Worm

Code Veronica

-Nosferatu
- Alexia
-Bandersnatch

Alexia is the only one you can make a case for being Japanese looking

Resident Evil 4

-All the Ganados/Cult Illumaniti/Dr Salvador
-Mendez
-Right Hand
-El Gigante
-Salazzar
-Krauser
-U3
-Regenerator
-Claw monster
-Saddler

The only one that you can make a case of being Japanese is look and design is the Salazzar fight

Resident Evil 5

-Majini
-Tentacle Gigante
-Irving - Japanese
-Bat looking boss - Western
-Uroboros - japanese
-Wesker - Transformation reeked of anime
- U8 - Japanese

Resident Evil 6

I dont want to give spoilers so I wont post names of the bosses

-Leons boss - Very Japanese looking
-Chris's boss - Same as above
-Ustanak - 1/2 compared to Nemesis he looks more Japanese oriented. Him not wearing a shirt and that arm of his is very Japanese to me
-Lepotitsa - Western looking
-Rasklapanje - I can see this enemy is any Japanese game
-Ubistvo - Cool fight, but really makes no sense. Why does he have that weapon? This thing can be in any Japanese action game

Zombies are very western, Javo are pretty cool western i'd say too, till later in the game.

Anybody noticing that some of the character designs are becoming more eastern looking while Capacom is trying to westernize the game play? I can't be the only one that sees this.

Holy shit, I wouldn't be surprised now if they threw Ogroman in the Requiem for War map or something.

I like inclusions like that, adds to the challenge. I was surprised the Lepotista wasn't even the secret boss, if you play into Catacombs two will appear during your round, one in the middle and one towards the end. The worst one is towards the end a Lepotista AND a Super Whopper will spawn right next to each other at the same time.

The chainsaw guy I was surprised to see while watching a video of the map one time. Its the secret boss of Rail Yard, and wasn't expecting it to be included.

I'm curious who the enemies in the four maps are going to be and who the secret bosses will be. The Mesets may likely appear as literally ever other cocoon enemy appears in Mercs (mostly as secret bosses).

Since the four other Mercs maps we have is a part of Edonia, the final boss arena for Jake, the final boss arena for Leon, and some area I assume is part of the underwater facility, I've been curious how they're going to break down the area. I was thinking the other day how cool/terrifying it would be if in the last four Mercs maps included the bosses of those regions into the map, but I'm not 100% sure how they might do it. Still, the thought of fighting Ogroman in Edonia, one of Simmons forms on the rooftops maps, or Ustanak in the lava area map sound interesting.

That would be a good way to punish dropped combos.

EDIT: They could easily make like 20 Merc maps total ripped right from the game.

How cool would a classic Merc DLC be? Like RE4s village with Super Salvador as a boss or Raccoon City with Nemessis as a boss. I would buy that in a second.

Anyone have good recommendations on first uses for skill points?

Item Drop Increase first...then it is different if you are playing single player...if you are, I would take 1 level in field medic...(and as suggested above set your team to follow) then 1 point in firearm...then one more point in field...then max out firearms...

Early RE was much more Western B movie as seen by the japanese. CV started this shift into anime/jrpg sci fi types of things. It's really visible with the villains and how super powered and unreasonably skilled everyone is. Leon getting shot in RE2 was a big deal and put him out of commission for a time. Getting shot in RE now means almost nothing. That's if they even get hit since everyone is flipping around like jedi's and doing crazy martial arts at the drop of a hat.

I miss the days when Wesker was just a guy out to make a mint and didn't mind breaking a few eggs to do it. It was actually nice see Jake being pretty focused on getting paid since it felt more like a callback to that Wesker than crazy super villain they turned him into.

Honestly that is one of the many reasons I love Outbreak so much. They actually felt like real people.

I'm probably one of the only ones, but I thought a lot of the monster designs were inspired from Parasite Eve,
especially the entire Dogman/Horseman/Dinosaur/Giant Fly boss parade in Leon's campaign

Surely Lepotista has its HP adjusted for Mercs, especially if it's just a regular enemy like the Whopper -- otherwise it would take forever to destroy, given all the other demands of Mercs. o_O

Of the remaining enemies that haven't appeared in Mercs yet, I'd most like to see the Mesets -- they only appear in Jake's Ch. 2 in the campaign. But it'd be hilarious to see them work in Rasklapanje or Ogroman. It can be done, but it'd take some work to properly balance. I'll slap my knee in delight if they do either of them. :)

Agreed with getting a bit on the crazy side with CV, but when you think about it, Resident Evil 4 was pretty grounded for the most part. It didn't really turn Sci Fi till the island, which still had some elements of horror like the Regenerators and U3. Thinking back, Saddler is the most interesting main villain in the Resident Evil series, I am bored of the entire scientist goes mad villain. Saddler was a unique case being some religious cult leader. He is much more creepy than Wesker and had more personality than Birkin. I really appreciate Saddler as a villain.

I recently picked up RE6 cause I really enjoyed the demo. Started with Chris's campaign and all was well with the first few chapters but what the hell at the
Harrier level? Probably some of the worst controls for piloting a jet ever. I think I crashed into the carrier at least three times. Pushing down on the analog stick should never in a million years make a jet drop altitude and should always raise altitude.

Still enjoying the hell out of the game but that really bothered me.

I'm considering trying to get my Platinum-Trophy for RE6. The thing I'm most afraid of are the QTEs.
I played the first time on amateur to enjoy the story and because I'm not that good at games like this and since the loading tip mentioned that amateur solves QTEs I'm not sure what I've missed so far. I got still plenty of QTEs like the wiggle to shake off zombies and the shoulder button pressing to climb the robe or press a button to not be run over by a train that would otherwise kill instantly. Those were quite ok for me.
Was the loading tip lying or are there even more QTEs and how hard are they compared to the amateur QTEs?
And does the difficulty affect the reaction time as well? Like less time to shake grabbing zombies? I always found the time exactly fitting and a shorter time would certainly give me troubles.
And what skills would be a good choice?
I thought of firepower, defence and drop rate, but field medic sounds very usefull as well but not sure what to switch that for.
Thanks :)

I actually enjoyed RE4 very much early on. It really seemed like RE's take on the Italian zombie genre. It wasn't until the castle that it really went off the rails for me. My biggest problem was just the general tone. James Bond gadgets, Leon's awful one liners and personality, those godawful codec conversations with hunnigan etc. were cringe worthy for me the whole time.

The QTEs should be the least of your concerns. They're really easy, and if you fail you just get sent to a checkpoint right before the QTE. It really is nowhere near as big a deal as most reviewers make it out to be.

I'm more hoping than characters they may do what people have been asking for years and recreate old RE locations as Mercenaries maps for DLC. I think I and many others would pay for a mercs map based off of the RE1 Mansion or the RPD Police Station.
Mansion, RPD, Clock Tower for a classic pack.

The mansion would be easy if they just modified assets from LIN.

They should release a "Partners" pack with Jill, Sheva and Claire for Mercs, and then a "STARS" pack with Rebecca, Barry and Wesker.

You're welcome, Capcom, send my check in the mail.
I think you mean, Capcom take all my money.
