RESIDENT EVIL 6 |OT| No Trope Left

after a few days of playing, I've done a 180 and completely like the game. I guess it was the controls that were the biggest problem for me, but with some time spent with the game ( and some investigating of the controls on your own) things really click and movement becomes natural for the most part. I guess for me, starting with Chris's campaign was a mistake, even after learning the controls the encounters in the first two chapters still feel poorly laid out, but I started to have a blast after switching to Jakes campaign. I'm gonna start on Leon's campaign tomorrow and see if the good time continues there. thanks to ilnadmy for the links earlier ( even though I didn't reply and you probably don't remember the post, I did see them), they really made a difference for me when it came to learning and appreciating the detail put into the game.

So after Platinuming this game and RE5, I'm on a RE kick. Currently starting RE2, any tips I should know? Started as Claire.

Not really, just make sure you do stuff in Claire A that can be continued in Leon B.

(Registering the fingerprints in the lab etc)

Three chainsaw guys at the same time, on a gigantic maze-like map where time is spread out all over and a pain int he butt to get to. Combo-killing ladders every ten steps, every other guy is a head bursting cephlashit... damn man. Brutal.

Ship Deck? My favorite map. But Chainsaw is 2 max.

That was my last RE5 mercs video (solo SD 763k) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9d2DxUQ3zM

Actually one of the easiest maps, because there are no random Plagas (all are scripted)

Send StunandStab a friend request on PSN. I enjoy trying to help you guys unlock all your characters even though I've already done it all. It's a lot of fun!

Will do! I just realized I have RE5 though and not RE5 Gold Edition. Does it make a difference?

Awesome, glad to hear you're enjoying the game more now! At least you got Chris' campaign out of the way, I think he had the weakest campaign of the bunch.

I like how Capcom decide to stay consistent with ORC but not any of the previous mainline games.

;_;

I think its more that they got the RE6 actors to do ORC.
at least Chris has the same actor.

I really don't get why they change the voices when its been the same exact people doing the voice directing and casting since Umbrella Chronicles.
Going to stick with my conspiracy theory about Jill's voice change in Revelations though.

Will do! I just realized I have RE5 though and not RE5 Gold Edition. Does it make a difference?

If you have all the RE5 DLC installed the two versions are identical save for Move compatability. It won't be an issue. I use the standard edition of RE5 as well.

Damn, dude... your skills!

I wish I was that awesome at mercs. I don't even attempt playing solo

I have got 700kish scores in duo split screen though. 150 combo. That was a long time ago :(

EDIT: On an unrelated note...

Somebody just jumped to rank 1 in the RE.net event with 99999746 zombie kills. They weren't there earlier today. That CAN'T be legit, can it?

I dont think I will play it for top of LB's, always hated Reunion system. It's just so wrong.

So the scoring system in Reunion is the same as in RE6? I've noticed that RE6 is all about the combo, whereas it seems with vanilla RE5 that while the combo certainly adds a significant chunk to your score, most of it comes from the time you have left at the end of the match.

Are there any other differences? There is the secret boss thing... though Reunion didn't have that, as far as I remember.

I've never played anything to top leaderboards... wish I could, but while I definitely think I am a great gamer, that's just a whole other level entirely that I don't think I could ever reach.

Haha, I was at the top of the Survivors leaderboard for Experimental Facility for like a day, though. That was fun.

Wow I didn't know Sherry's voice actor also voiced her in ORC.
kinda sounds weird hearing it now.
She also voiced Sherry in Outbreak 2, which was released 2004 I think.

Hackers obviously. There is a large RE modding community.
I wouldn't blame this on the RE modding community. The RE modding community isn't that big, and there's not many people focussing on cheating (if any). However, there is a gigantic xbox hacking community, and it's probably from there we got the cheaters.

So the scoring system in Reunion is the same as in RE6? I've noticed that RE6 is all about the combo, whereas it seems with vanilla RE5 that while the combo certainly adds a significant chunk to your score, most of it comes from the time you have left at the end of the match.

You didn't have secret bosses in reunion, but you did have a bonus for killing a boss late in a combo.

The biggest difference between normal mercs and reunion is the point bonus gained from melees compared to combos. If I recall, your points for combo kills would keep increasing up to 50, and after that you'd get the same amount of points for each kill. I think it was 5000 per kill. While each second on the clock was worth 1000 points. This means getting a melee kill was worth as much as getting a kill while the combo was over 50.

And this changed in Reunion, where combo kills over 50 became worth a lot lot LOT more, making a 150 combo more worthwhile than anything else, and time bonus was reduced to 200 points per second.

Another change with Reunion is that they changed how melees were balanced, basically every character in Reunion functions more like Wesker where their head stun will always kill a majini. I assume they did that because Wesker was undeniably the best character for normal mercs.

Is it strange that I'm thinking of quitting Dusk Golem's Chrono-run campaign run, restarting, and just focusing on one campaign at a time, like the developers intended?

Maybe it's the nature of my work schedule, but I find myself just lost in the plot and disconnected to what I'm doing, due to things bouncing all over the place. Not to mention, there's specific points where you literally replay what you just did in a chapter prior.
Between this and now having a much firmer grasp on the controls/gameplay systems, I just feel like I would enjoy things more starting fresh.

I'm on Chris' Ch.4 right now, then on to the last set of Ch.5's/ADA's campaign.

What say you GAF?

Did you enjoy this Chrono-style more, or one campaign at a time?

You are clearly pro at this... and I'm possibly mistaken... but I'm pretty sure we were dealing with three off those assholes. Because I was fighting one that I ran away from when he was shrugging off my magnum bullets like they were little more than an annoyance, and then I ran to stunandstab for some back up and he had two of them chasing him up a ladder. I clearly remember that. It's possible that the grenade I threw at my feet, to get away from the pack that was pursuing me, caused chainsaw guy to finally die, and I just didn't see it... but that would still mean another one spawned in seconds... which is bullshit lol and might as well count as a third in principle.

But you are probably right, idk... kinda new to RE5 mercs and it was really frustrating/hectic.

I didn't play chrono order and have made some posts why I was really glad I chose the basic dev order... but idk about a restart after you went through 4 chapters of each character... I guess at least you'd have some weapons right at the beginning.

Hey... you could always just watch the cutscenes for each campaign before going into their Ch.5's....

I personally really enjoyed the chono run, but I had the time to play about two chapters a night over the course of the first two weeks, so the story progressed at a good clip and I managed to piece all the plot threads together. I'm playing through each campaign on Pro now and I can also see why people enjoy playing this way. Personally I'm glad I did the chrono run though.

Finally beat the game. I though the best campaign was the last one, go figure.
My rating:
1. Last campaign
2. Leon
3. Jake
4. Chris

With the skill points that I have now I bought the infinite machine gun upgrade so I think I'll tackle through the game again in Pro mode and will get all them serpent emblems as well.

No, as I said earlier it just all is up to how you'd like to experience the game. Different strokes for different folks. I didn't play in that order actually when I first played either, just what I put thought into after completion.

Glad to see the game clicking for another person. :)

As for AgentOtaku's question of whether to start over and tackle it campaign by campaign: it sounds like you're near the end (Chris Ch. 4 with the three Ch. 5s left and Ada's campaign), so maybe you should just wrap it up. I was only able to play one chapter a night (if that) due to a busy schedule, but the plot and gameplay still coalesced for me using the chrono timeline.

That being said, I don't think one can go wrong playing the game campaign by campaign, either. I think it's clear they want you to play Leon's campaign first, even though the others start earlier chronologically. Leon's campaign is more concerned with easing you into the gameplay, whereas Chris and Jake sort of throw you into the fray -- which can be rough for first impressions if one is still acclimating to the gameplay. :)

And WOW at Sectus getting Ogroman to work in Urban Chaos -- I was the one who said I suspect he'll appear in Requiem for War, and I guess this makes that seem more likely. :)

By the way, are Requiem for War, Creature Workshop, Rooftop Mission and Liquid Fire playable if you hack the game, or are only their level select thumbnails available at the moment?

True that

Yeah, like I said, I think if I had more time, I would enjoy it more via chrono-run, but I just don't

I could always try again on a Pro playthrough. Also, I didn't really utilize the right-ish skills early on anyway...

So yeah, i'm gonna restart with Leon tonight

They're not playable. Basically, there's 2 sets of files for stages. There's the main part which has the actual model, textures and script files for the stages. And then there's all the additional files necessary for the stages which are a part of other archives (spawn positions, text, level select UI and other stuff). The latter is all there, but the former is not there.

I suspect all of this was actually finished for release (which explains why all the additional files are already there, especially the spawn positiojns being there is suspicious) but to avoid another ondisc spectacle, they removed most files from the disc.

So...is there a community chatroom for this game on PS3?

I don't think there is, but that sounds like a fantastic idea and I'm not sure why nobody thought of this before.

Somebody should make one! I would do it but I have to go to work.

It would be so great to have all the active PS3 players all in one place, though

-also, thanks for the info on the mercs scoring systems, Sectus.

I'm doing Ada's campaign and I got some questions. It's story related and I know RE's story is always dumb and one shouldn't dwell too much on it, but Ada's presence has always bothered me post RE2.

If I remember correctly, in both Leon's campaigns in RE2 (A and B) Ada ends up "dying" so to speak. In Leon A she gets shot by Annette and ends up falling from a ledge inside the facility. In Leon B she gets mauled by a mutated Tyrant and you see her corpse lying in a pool of blood. One of these endings is more definitive while the other leaves the question of Ada's fate more open.

So my question is, which of the storylines in RE2 is straight up canon? Leon A and Claire B or Claire A or Leon B? I would lean towards Leon A and Claire B simply because Ada's death is more obscure but I don't remember if Sherry gets infected with the G-virus in Claire B. My memory is hazy there. There's also that shadowy figure that hands you the rocket launcher on the B side to defeat the Tyrant. I never knew who that was.
Did Capcom retcon the entire thing? I read Ada's file in RE6 and it doesn't even mention any of the stuff that happened to her in RE2.

So what do you guys think? I'm just wondering.

I think Claire A Leon B is considered canon because in the files
it says that Claire created an antidote for Sherry's infection. Also if I'm not mistaken, someone drops a rocket launcher in Leon's fight, which I believe is Ada.

Is there much point in completing Ada Wongs campaign? Really finding it hard to continue playing. It's pretty meh.

I personally didn't enjoy Ada's campaign, but a lot of people really liked it. It's a lot of stealth and combat stuff with minimal puzzles, so take that how you will.

I found it to be almost as bad as Chris' to be honest. All the super retarded story elements are exclusively addressed in it which doesn't really help matters.

The other three campaigns taken on their own without all that baggage are actually fairly reasonable plots.

After 12 hours I decided to post a bit more about the game in here.

I started playing the Chris Chapter. I'm on Chapter 5 on Professional.

Then I will go Jake > Leon. Playing the game one Chapter at a time with a friend in Co-op. This game is great to play like this to be honest. I'm liking so far. We decided to leave Leon Chapters to the end since when we played the demo it seemed the most "Resident Evil-ish."

Played some Mercenaries with some random people while he did not got his copy and had some good games. It seems there's a lot of points to get in order to level all Skills.

So far I have Firearm, Critical Hit, and the third one I keep forgetting on LVL 3.

This game is great, I was planning on getting a lot later but I'm glad, because in the end I was able the get the Steelbook Edition (if I didn't got this Edition I would have waited a long time and then get the regular edition). This only proves to me, that, one more time Reviews do nothing for me, that and the Internet. Everyone can have their opinion and this is mine.

Finally it's good to see Good-GAF in this OT. People helping, answering, good stuff overall. Glad there is this thread and glad I can make my own opinion about the game.

Oh and I signed to the RE.net. At first there was big Login problems but now it's better, been logging in everyday to get some Skill points but I'm still confused about the unlocks. I unlock there and then it appears in the game? I was looking at some costumes and I have them but it's on the Mercenaries mode. I'm guessing those on RE.net will unlock for the Main Game/Chapters?

The costumes you unlock on RE.net are alternate colors of the costumes for Mercenaries. So Sherry's EX2 costume is blue, but the one you unlock on RE.net is pink. Glad to hear you're enjoying the game though!

Late response but I did it both ways. First run was Leon - Chris - Jake. Second time I helped a friend through and he wanted to go in the chrono order so I helped him through that way. Honestly it doesn't matter at the point you're at cause you're almost done and they pretty much overlap. I personally just enjoyed finishing one campaign at a time but also I had beaten the game previously. I enjoyed some chapters more than others so having to go to another story was kinda disappointing. Also when I played I finished Leon's first which despite liking the early bits of his campaign, I found his to be pretty weak overall. His chapter 2 and 3 were my least favorite parts of the game.

Like I said though, it doesn't matter too much now cause you're pretty much done. Might as well finish whoever's you feel like finishing first. Maybe play it in whatever order you like for any future runs you plan.

Unfortunately, at this time... costumes are limited to mercs, and not usable in the campaigns. Most of us hope they fix this, but there's been no word on it one way or another.

Glad you like the game... I always have trouble narrowing down my GOTY but this one is seriously in the running. Easily.

Thanks for answering fellow GAFfers. So the Costumes unlocks are for the Mercs only, right?

Ah and it seems that the only difference between the ones I unlocked on the game and the ones on RE.net is the different colors. I wouldn't mind different Costumes but maybe I'll get something when I beat the Games/Chapters.

On what are you guys unlocking mostly in the RE.net? Any news on more stuff to come? Maybe I should save my points. This is what I have: RE Points:98900.

Save your points -- there are retro "low-poly" skins of Leon, Chris, Jake, Helena, Piers, Sherry and Ada coming out, and Sherry is even her RE2 self, as seen below:

I haven't played that many games released during 2012 actually, but this is probably my GOTY so far as well. Upon finishing the first play through I was actually rather disappointed. On the first experience basis I found RE6 to not be nearly as great as RE4 or RE5. However upon replays with co-op, getting better at the game, Mercenaries, and all the other content in the game I found myself loving the game more and more.

I think the only game I'm still getting this year brand new is AC3, so that's the only competition for RE6 at this point. Again though, I've only played a rather small number of games this year.

I am officially at 40 hours played, 8 of which are on Mercenaries. Fuck the haters, this is my GOTY.

Same here, the game will definitely be on my GOTY list, having a great time with it. :)

My Stats: Agent Level 34, 56:50'20" overall playtime, 14:53'04" Mercs playtime.

I still have to complete Leon, Jake and Ada in Pro...I see myself spending more hours on this game than RE5 (which was ~100hrs) - RE6, XCOM, Dark Souls & Halo 4 will consume most of my gaming time this fall.

Neiteio

My GOTY is probably tied between Kid Icarus Uprising (which was incredible!) and Sleeping Dogs (also incredible!), but RE6 and RER are definitely up there. Really, all four titles were pure joy for me. I haven't got to Dishonored, XCOM and Virtue's Last Reward yet, though.

Yeah I also haven't played that many new games this year, but between Mass Effect 3, Max Payne 3, Rochard, and RE6 I definitely have to give the nod to RE6. I'm also getting Halo 4 (well, I have it pre-ordered...may end up canceling it), so we'll see how that turns out. I'm generally not a huge Halo fan though, so I don't see this really changing my mind.

I really want to play XCOM, Dishonored, and Sleeping Dogs though. I'll probably get them over Black Friday, so maybe some of those will change my mind.

Finished Jake chapter 2. Please tell me the rest of his campaign is at least this good. It's far from perfect, much like the rest of the game, but it's easily the most fun I've had with this game yet.

Jake's campaign is far and away my favorite. It feels more experimental and different-y than either of Chris' or Leon's campaigns.
