I bought the Mercs map pack and I'm really enjoying them a lot. Worth the $5. I've been messing around with the skills and I really like the one that gives you extra power in your counters. I find that really useful since I counter a lot and with that skill equipped it's a guarantee ten seconds bonus with every counter.

What skills do you guys use in Mercs?

Let's just pretend all this shit is extra, a freebie, that has come at no cost to anything else you may have wanted. Don't let your wild imagination get ahead of you and more so if you are just going to use it get pissy about extra shit to a complete game.

So far I've only had enough points to buy the increased item drop skill. Downloaded the maps last night but have not checked them out yet. It sure is nice seeing that full list of maps though when I bring up Mercenaries.

Well, to be fair: Consoles aren't getting it. So there could be some anger there. But meh, I doubt the L4D characters loadouts are going to be so radically different from the load outs the cast already has for Merc.

Plus, it's just new characters on the same ol' Merc maps. Meh.

Looking at screenshots, you can tell what the new loadouts are:

Coach: Shotgun, Rocket launcher, Lightning hawk

Rochelle: Ammo box 50, Elephant killer

Ellis: Nine oh nine, Anti materiel rifle

Nick: Assault rifle RN, Grenade launcher with explosive rounds

Those loadouts are fairly unique. The least unique is probably Nick (compared to Leon2).

There are 2 important things to note about this content. According to the press release, the L4D2 characters will only be available in No Mercy mode, not normal mercs. And there's been no mention so far that No Mercy has coop support.

Yeah fucking over people who are actually RE fans and bought their game and their lame DLC so far. Waiting for months, for word of new RE mercs characters (Jill, Claire, Barry, Wesker, etc) and instead they reveal some generic-as-fuck left for dead shit.

Whatever. Deleted this off the HDD today. I'm done with it.

I understand this mentality - it seems like a huge misstep to spend time on L4D rather than new RE characters or maps (and this seemed like the game in the franchise that would properly capitalise on this).

But I am still enjoying RE6 and it's DLC modes on my console and I guess that's enough for me to keep it.

Damn 7:50 left? Are you using time bonus skill?

I hate catacombs so much. Armored zombies, zombies with laterns that if you melee kill will cause you to catch on fire, and scary ass lepo's. I had a 121 combo earlier and messed up the QTE when the lepotista grabs you and ended up dying.

Yeah, I used Time Bonus. And was doing quite alot of counters in the beginning, I usually never go for them when playing solo.

I actually hated Catacombs for so long, due to it being so dark, I hate the zombies noises, Leposita and all of that made it so unpleasant and scary to play. But now I love the stage, it's super fun to play on the DLC modes, specially Onslaught, it gets super crazy. The reason I used Carla is cause her counter (when carrying the Picador) doesn't make her catch on fire from the lanterns. I guess it works on Ada as well but I'm lousy with the crossbow and the Ammo Box is a hit and miss for me.

Pharmacist in co-op, due to sheer laziness I guess. And I use Time Bonus when playing solo.

We never got new characters outside of the four coming with the story DLC packs in Bio5's merc mode. What makes you think it would've been different here?

The only difference here is that it's PC exclusive. Which isn't as big of a deal as you're making it out to be. Maybe for "variety" sake but it isn't some earth shatteringly huge slight on console gamers. A bigger deal with be a story chapter expansion being exclusive to PC since that's more "important" for enjoyment. Characters not coming to a side-mode? Big deal.

In any case, hoping for Claire to be a merc is a fools errand. Unless she was in that Merc shovelware title on the 3DS she's NEVER been in any of the merc modes outside of Extreme Battle Mode (where she was a "main character" of Bio2 so included for that sake) so I dunno why you were hyping yourself up there for her. I mean shit, Barry and 'Becca being in Bio5 was a pleasant surprise. Mostly because no one was expecting merc characters.

The difference is that they got alot of great response for those extra characters in RE5 Mercs. If you compare with what RE5 has and got to RE6 it's ridiculous. They even got DLC costumes with new loadouts. We got 2 new "dlc" costumes with the same loadouts as the only unlockable costume had. Not to mention the 3 and only stages for Mercenaries... I seriously don't get it.

It's 2 very different situations though. RE5 sold extremely well so DLC made a lot of sense, while RE6 hasn't sold nearly as much as Capcom planned, so DLC makes less sense. As a side note, the 3 stages was a huge misstep, as all 10 stages were done by launch and could easily have been included in the release version.

With the L4D content for the PC version, I'm pretty sure they were thinking "So PC version is gonna have a development time of 6 months, how can we utilize that time to ensure PC gamers will be enticed to buy it?"

I don't think normal DLC (ala RE5 Gold) could have happened instead of this. Another important thing to point out is that this new content was not made by the RE6 team, it was made by Qloc (the company porting the game to PC).

Capcom's expectations for RE6 were too high. I fully believe that RE5 sold well because of RE4. it was a completely new direction for the franchise and new gameplay. It was revolutionary for it. RE6 sold 'disappointing' because of RE5 and due that game not being what fans wanted. People didn't know this, they only had RE4 as reference... so when RE5 came out they started figuring it out. But only after they bought and played it. And with RE4 being good why wouldn't the series continue to improve? WRONG.

I think that's why RE6 failed to sell better... people wanted to wait and see how the game played before actually purchasing it. Just because it didn't break any records doesn't mean that it didn't sell well? Capcom is just way too greedy, it's like "Oh... it didn't sell enough, let's abandon it then." It didn't sell well enough to continue to milk it and it didn't sell bad enough for them to continue to push it (like SFxT).

God I hope so! Shouldn't have to rely on Modders to put this in. Because even if you put it in Sectus, it will still render online play useless do to mismatches and whatnot.

I am going to play the living fuck out of this game! I'm jonesing for some mercs action....main campaign be damned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this true? So theoretically the RE6 team could have spent this time working on more RE6 DLC?

Yeah, someone from Capcom confirmed it was Qloc who made the L4D content.

It's not known what the RE6 team has been working on. But there's also the possibility they've stopped working on RE6, and they've assigned to a new game.

If people wanna speculate about any RE6 Gold, then looking back at RE5 Gold that was announced 6 months after RE5. And I think there's been similar schedules with other Capcom re-releases (Dark Arisen was announced 4-5 months after Dragon's Dogma I think). So if Capcom is gonna announce anything new about RE6, I think PAX East is the most logical place.

I think I'll be surprised if they don't announce some additional content at some point.
Even Dragon's Dogma gets to have Dark Arisen, after all. :D

Alright cool, guess I'll try Carla out later tonight.

I'd really love to see a mercs reunion for RE6. I was so hyped for RE5's. Co-op was the best as characters got special meele moves depending on who you teamed up with. Dat Sheva double fang!

Bring on Jill, Claire, Billy, Jessica and whoever else and I'd be the happiest man alive. PAX east is this upcomng weekend right? Udon has said they have some amazing announcements at the capcom panel so hopefully they'll announce the RE6 artbook.

I alternate between Limit Breaker and Time Bonus + skill depending on the stage and the skill my partner equip. Nothing else. Not even Power Counter skill. Though I used to use it when I started playing Mercenaries.

Thanks for the replies guys! I am so HOOKED on Mercs it's not even funny. I'm starting to get a little better at it too. Finally reached 150 with two characters in Urban Chaos solo. Felt so awesome! One thing is that playing online with other players is a little too laggy and mostly everyone has the high score hijinks or serious players only which turns me off because I don't want to join their games to mess it up. lol

What if someone else join in your game and mess it up? You might find duo addicting, perhaps even more addicting than solo. As for the lag, either you host or you set the region to home so you can play with people near your location effectively reducing lag.

Really excited for the PC release this Friday, has there been any hands-on impressions I might have missed? Hoping for and expecting the best in any case.

Was playing against this random on Onslaught. He had like 60 wins with Jake and had Item Drop increase. We played on Rooftop. We finished 10 minute round. He had 50+ more kills than me... I never dropped my combo and I still lost :( I felt like I was killing constantly and even had Ubvitso running around helping me.

Does killing with melee give you more points or? So far I've won all the games I played by using the 30 combo kill and using Shooting Wild skill. I have no idea how you kill 'faster'.

I've asked myself similar questions while trying out Onslaught.

You join a room to find someone sitting there with a pretty sizeable amount of wins. You play your match through the end as well as you can, but there's a spread in kills that feels too wide somehow and you've lost. You retry with several tactics and characters but still end up soundly defeated against an opponent who appears to have changed nothing with each attempt.

It's made me wonder if some people had discovered some exploits or loopholes to assist how they approach the endless enemy stream in a given map, and how quickly they are able to dispatch them.

I suppose the biggest surprise for me was that I expected the mode to play out like an adversarial Mercs.
In practice, it turns out that not a lot in your Mercs skillset seems to apply to Onslaught.

Obviously I don't expect myself to win all the games all the time in Onslaught. But like you said, when you do your best and it turns out someone has 50 more kills when you can't do anything but shoot everything you kinda wonder 'How are they doing it?' I mean the difference is still quite big. Alright if it was just 10 but 50...

He had around 280+ kills and I had around 250 after 10 minutes.

The only skills that crossed over from Mercs is just avoid getting killed I guess. Its not many games where people last 10 minutes. I still find it alot of fun though when it gets crazy.

Youtubed and found this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fy5ubf-gARY Pretty much exact game and scores, lol. No idea what I learned from watching it? Keep all chainsaws alive?

So RE6 PC will include all of the extra mode maps as well as the extra modes, that makes it all of the DLC + new exclusive goodies.
I was already sold on the double dip, but they've really made this easy!

We should probably make a thread which links to the tips thread, links back to the OT, and lists the number of changes since console launch.

That's the thing - I don't join those games nor do I host any games, lol. I just play solo most of the time. I do know about the home region option, but sometimes it just won't find any games when I play late at night (only time I can play). On the rare occasions that I do find games, they're just for serious play/high score. I'm getting better and better, so I think I'm building the confidence to join those games and not be hindrance!

ubersticky, thanks for posting that video. That's the first time I've seen a video of Onslaught in action. It looks REALLY cool! So basically you kill enemies and then you send them to your opponent!? On the video you posted, I'm assuming you can't see where your opponent is? I think I may get it, though I think keeping that chainsaw guy alive is extremely cheap for easy kills IMO. Looks like a fun mode.

What I'm guessing is that they're making full use of the 300% damage bonus.
Basically: melee kill until 300% bonus, shoot everything once the bonus is active (hence item drop skill), end combo at 30, repeat as needed. Ubitsvo staying alive probably prevents your combo dropping because he gets kills too. This strategy probably works best on zombie maps, since getting shot by javo makes you lose the damage bonus real quick.

That's actually what I'd taken as the best strategy in the zombie maps: getting to 300%, killing quickly, and sending monsters back at 29 combo to keep the damage multiplier. The opponent I describe wasn't doing that, however. Always a quick 30 combo (which resets the damage multiplier), over and over.

I'm not sure getting to 29 while keeping multiplier is the best option. Getting to 30 sends over special enemies, which can be surprisingly hard to kill without some sort of damage multiplier. I always go for the 30 and try to get a kill instead of time over.

Quick question - how can you tell what percentage a bonus you have going? Is it just something you have to mentally keep track of that x number of melee hits = % ?

I've been playing very traditionally in Mercenaries as I don't understand all the complexities. I do use right trigger as often as possible, is that different then the melee?

Oh man Sectus you need to post some delicious 1080p YouTube videos of the PC version for me to salivate over.

Well, even though I got a copy early I can't do anything with it.

And there's a chance I'll have a bigger problem. I've had major major issues connecting to steam today, and even changing OS and reinstalling steam has no effect.

In onslaught on the left side of the screen there's a number stating what your current damage multiplier is. Melee kill really just means to kill via a melee attack, it can be a counter kill, headshot stun into a command melee kill, headstomp kill, just regular RT melee kill, etc. Because there is no advantage to scoring counter kills in onslaught unlike in mercs, just go for whatever nets you the quickest kill. I normally do headshot into command melee.

Once you hit 300% multiplier enemies can die as easy as a just one free RT melee.

I'm not convinced melees are that useful since it's so slow to kill. I've fought people who somehow manage to constantly get kills quickly.

I've seen a ton of people use Piers1 in Onslaught. To begin with I thought it was due to the anti-materiel rifle, but after trying him, I think the real reason is actually his pistol. The nine-oh-nine has a really high critical head shot chance, so I think one possible tactic is to just go for a ton of headshots with that pistol.

Going to be joining the party on this tomorrow I think. Just finished RE4 yesterday(phenomenal) and wasn't sure if I wanted to pick up 5 or 6 next but seeing as they are a package deal on Steam(for the pre-order) I figured now was a good time for both.

Think I'll play 6 first. Combat looks more interesting in it or at least very different (many more evasive maneuvers and move+shoot). I didn't mind the lack of movement in RE4 and I think it made sense given almost no enemies had projectile weapons. Should be an interesting game to compare and contrast with. Its got big shoes to fill.

Just keep in mind it might be weird to go from RE6 to RE5. RE5 controls very very similarly to RE4, while RE6 gives you a lot more freedom.

Aaaaand RE6 PC is now released! And I have to spend ages installing from disc because the pre-load happened way too late for me to be able to download it.

I remember someone made a thorough post about advice for playing RE6 "the right way", including lots of button inputs and control quirks the game and manual never teach you about. Can someone dredge that up?

I don't know if this is news, but the ability to configure fov settings seems to be removed in the pc version. Also, no real AA, just FXAA.
