This made me laugh.

RE in Space? I'd buy it. I'd buy the Sexy Spacesuit Sheva DLC too.

I'm still not a fan of digital distribution. Similarly, does the game go up ON THE DAY?

There's a large chance I'll have it before then either way :)

ALSO IF YOU GUYS WANNA ORGANISE MATCHES, DON'T FORGET THE COMMUNITY THREAD

Sorry guys, I reread my post before I clicked post and wondered if the joke would make it to other screens. I was implying we were all simply downloading the game/case to appear in front of us.

True, but the latest Dead Space 3 video actually looked pretty good.

You know what's weird, I thought Isaac took up as much of the screen in that video as the characters do in RE6 and yet no one was complaining about the camera. Of course I could be wrong, but they seemed pretty similar.

Wider FOV. Or maybe just a smoother, slower camera. Either way, it didn't at all give the same impression as RE6.

I will also defend RE5 touch and nail. I am replaying it now and setpiece by setpiece it is better than most TPS. It's not RE4 but then again what is? I understand RE5 has a whole other host of issues with the AI partner and such but none of that bothers me.

To me it is all about the gameplay and level design, RE5 shines in that. Like RE4 nearly every new area has a new twist to the formula, something that makes you adjust tactics. It's so good.

I completely agree.
RE5 is my number 1 game this gen and I feel it gets to much of a bad wrap.
While im just beating a dead horse here, I couldn't stand the people who complained about no moving and shooting in RE5. But no one complained about that shit in RE4.

I must be the only person on the planet who prefers the inclusion of co-op in survival horror.

For me, if it has co-op, then it stops being survival horror.

I love co-op in games, but the "horror" just go away once you're chatting with a friend online. I don't think I would be as scared in Siren: Blood Curse, Fatal Frame games, Amnesia, if I was playing them cooperatively with a friend.

Can we stop this please? The CO-OP in dead space is completely optional unlike RE.

No. We can't stop this. I'm concerned about many great single player experiences being neutered or dumbed down to include CO-OP. I can't imagine how great RE5 would have been if it wasn't designed to incorporate a brain-dead AI that was always in the way and only useful as a mule.

I question how it will affect balance, but truth be told I just have to accept that Dead Space, RE, etc are morphing into action horror games with out the survival or scary parts.

This is my problem though. Dead Space and post RE4 Resident Evil's are not survival horror. Enemies drop ammo for Christ sake.

Because Dead Space 3 doesn't have a brainless AI following you around in Singleplayer. There are also plenty of games that have CO-OP and are not lacking in the single player department.

Dead Space is a hybrid camera system. For most things it functions similarly to fixed FPS camera: player control is FPS strafe style and the camera is bound to the players perspective, you can see Isaac's upper body turn with the camera, where it goes.

However, if you turn the camera far enough it will break free, allowing the player to rotate it around the character.

So the system is like some weird lovechild of free camera and FPS camera... and it works incredibly well.

Also, the player movement has an impact, since the DS FPS controls allow for strafe walking all the time. Something you cannot do in RE6 unless you aim.

I'm used to RE6 now and like the game. I won't say which is better, because they both work well imo.

If I had to pick the best... well there is no contest. TLoU blows everything else outta the water. imo

Yep.
Outbreak, for example, is still a survivor horror game, even though there are 4 (?) characters playing together. Everything depends on execution and basic gameplay.

You are your TLoU crush. I've seen a bunch of videos for that game and I never once thought to myself how great the camera system is.

I will admit the game looks good, but after the disappointment of Uncharted 3 I'm going to take a wait-and-see approach with this one.

Fair enough. I'll wait and see on Dead Space 3.

There's no denying that multiplayer and CO-OP expreriences in many franchises feels tacked on and rushed. My main point is about the trend of talented development teams having to divide and dilute their talent pools in order to include online elements.

cough EA cough

That's fine by me. I like the action more than the scary.

Ordered the 360 version steelbook at Amazon.co.uk
Had regrets but the demo somehow grew on me. Jake is one bad mofo with his sniper rifle.
So can't wait to play the campaign.

That's always a fair position to take, though Uncharted 3 shouldn't be the reason for it. TLoU is being done by the Uncharted 2 team. At least that's what people say. I'm sure the teams are more fluid than that.

As for praise for TLoU's camera, it's the kind of thing that is so subtle that you don't notice how good it is until you see a throwback like RE6 where the camera is very dynamic, but not very adaptive to your actions. It basically sticks to you, moves as fast as you do, which makes it jerky, and wobbles erratically all over the place during melee attacks, which obscures the physicality of the attacks (which are themselves sufficiently well-animated).

Why does Capcom pretend like that game never existed? ;_;

There is a new craze for persistent online zombies and more realistic survival elements... if DayZ standalone ends up being really successful they might have incentive to jump in with a new Outbreak game.

I mean, this is kind of a stretch... but hey better than no hope at all.

Unfortunately, that seems the way Dead Space is heading as well. Friggin' CO-OP!
The inclusion of CO-OP need not spoil a good horror game, though.

System Shock 2 is, in my opinion, better than anything in the Dead Space series and one of the finest horror action/RPG games ever made. It's also one of the best CO-OP games I've ever played.

CO-OP was patched in but it worked beautifully and added a lot to the experience.

The difference, of course, is that the game made no attempt at integrating the second player into the actual narrative. They simply experienced the game alongside you.

It can be done and done well!

I must be the only person on the planet who prefers the inclusion of co-op in survival horror.

I've never really liked being on my own in games - dating back to, like, Doom. Maybe because I started off on table top roleplaying games, which tend to be team sports, but I like to have someone to talk to, even in offline mode.

And I really think it fits Resident Evil. Chris and Jill or Leon and Claire. I'd swear not having them on screen at the same time was more due to technical limitations than philosophy.

This seems like a notion quite biased by the lens of modern gaming. Once upon a time, a video game was something you could play by yourself, becoming immersed in its world (or its simple gameplay loop; a game doesn't have to be realistic or representative to be immersive) instead of talking to your friends. Fixed camera angles and narrow hallways are just a couple of reasons co-op wouldn't have made sense as a fundamental part of the RE philosophy. You can argue that pre-rendered backgrounds only existed due to technical limitations, but narrow hallways in a creepy mansion were obviously a conscious choice not dictated by tech.

I like co-op since I play survival horror games with someone else in the same room (the majority of the time anyway), as long as it doesnt interfere with or hinder the gameplay in general or feel forced.

Looking through some of the last few pages of this thread, it would seem this is definitely one of those cases where no one should judge a game based on its demo.

re5 was a great game. Do not know why it has a bad rap. re4 might be my favorite game of all time but that doesnt mean re5 is a bad game. If re6 is better than 5, it is definitely a must buy.

It has a bad rap largely because it didn't live up to RE4, it forced co-op with a bad partner, and even though it was fun with another person, some people didn't want to play RE that way.

I agree that it's not even close to a bad game, though.

There is the bit in RE1 where you can team up and fight along side Barry for a little bit, so I don't think it couldn't work.

But I guess I just like the buddy movie dynamic. Mulder and Scully. Riggs and Murtaugh. Chris and Jill (or Chris and Sheva, or Chris and Piers). Salem and Rios. Kane and Lynch. Master Chief and The Arbiter.

(Perhaps calling it a Double Act would be more acceptable to people)
