I would guess that a game this long probably amplifies the negative opinions. Reviewers don't play games under ideal conditions, but at least many of them are short. Now imagine being forced to play something you don't like for 25 hours over a couple of days. You're going to hate it extra hard.
Originally I had thought the game's length would have been in its favor, because of the learning curve of the controls. People were turning their opinions around by playing the demo a lot. I guess that's a matter of temperament and the player having more problems then the controls.
EDIT: Does no one know what I'm talking about with the scenario above?
