Capcom yesterday released its Annual Report for the 2018 financial year, and with it a few interesting pieces of data including the total lifetime sales for each of Capcom's game franchises.

Resident Evil is well clear of the pack, with 91 million units sold across 128 titles including re-releases. In second place is the Monster Hunter series which has sold 54 million units across 43 titles, with Street Fighter not far behind in third with 42 millions units across 91 titles.

The lowest selling franchises are Commando and 1942, at 1.2 and 1.4 mill respectively. Both of these were originally arcade arcade games in the 1980s, before being ported to home console systems such as the Famicom and ZX Spectrum, and their low numbers are fairly justified considering there were only five titles released between the two of them. The criminally overlooked Okami then comes in third to last, with 2.6 million units sold including the HD remasters.

I'm trying to imagine how there are 128 iterations of Resident Evil :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I know, it's re-releases and every possible type of release combined. It's like trying to figure out how there have been 43 Monster Hunters.

I wonder where they're getting 128 releases from? There are only 9 main series games and even if you count every port and re-release you're not going to get anywhere near 128.

When i comes to Capcom, I only mainly care about Mega Man (MM11 going platinum is quite nice). Nice for the RE fans though.

I'll also note 1942's NES port was done by Micronics and it was not a good port.

Well deserved. The franchise scratches the right itch for me. It's both serious and campy with some ridiculous, but fun, lore. And the gameplay/settings are really enjoyable to me. And it's just rife with potential to keep going.

That okami number is a shocking

Still looks like an absolutely unstoppable blockbuster in comparison to God Hand. :messenger_neutral:

I can see RE7 becoming the best selling RE game.
Needs 700k more without rerelease yet.
Well technically it's 3 million off from RE5 since RE7 and RE7 Gold Edition sales are combined unlike RE5 and RE5 Gold Edition, but on there list, yeah I will be surprised if it doesn't reach RE5 and 6.
