Resident Evil Movie Franchise Set for a Reboot

I thought this had been the plan for a while after Anderson announced the last one would be his last film but wouldn't be the end of the Resident Evil film franchise.

No surprise really, the films have all been very profitable as far as I know. For the most part they've generally gotten moreso as they've progressed.

Okay, cool story?
Most Hollywood reboots done so soon after seem unnecessary, like this one, is the point. Should've made that clearer. Harry Potter turned out sort of Frankenstein-ish in it's direction and tone throughout the series and I believe warrants a reboot with a single unified vision, even if it's only been 6 years or w/e.

Movies that do get reboots, like Spiderman, don't do anything different with their property most the time except change actors.

Damn, not even six months since the supposed last film.

Wonder if they'll actually take it in a different direction this time (ideally, something that's closer to the game series), or is it just going to be more of the same with a different cast.

A couple things to note about this:

Constantin Film has the rights to Resident Evil film franchise.

They have produce every live action Resident Evil film so far.

If you go through the other films that they've produce, it's far from impressive..

Overall , i wish that another studio had the rights to the franchise. Unless of course they learned something from Resident Evil 7. Or from any other horror franchises.

Suck Me Shakespeer was a fucking masterpiece.

If they followed the events of RE1 it could make an awesome film, I don't think they'll do it though.

Hope I'm wrong.

They call this a reboot, but I'm skeptical about this being a huge departure from what we've gotten before. It's still Constantin Films producing...

I bet money it still has the same elements of the other six movies. Female protagonist. Leather outfits. Super exaggerated & dumb sci-fi plot. This is like their Underworld franchise.

Seeing the kind of movies that have worked for them so far doing this would be seriously risking financial suicide.

Not really, Resident Evil 1 still has lots of action with shooting and a wide variety of BOWs. Set it in the Spencer Mansion with Chris and Jill fighting for their lives, it would sell.

This will totally be like the previous six, just with someone else other than Alice unfortunately. It's ok though, the general audience love them so I'm not one to judge.

The Neverending Story and Downfall are the only notable films I can recognize out of that list as generally considered good, but other than that....yeesh. Maybe there's some other good films in there I'm not aware of, but that's a very unremarkable line of filmography otherwise.

Also worth noting that they've also produced all of the Fantastic Four films so far. Is it any wonder that despite being handled by three different creative teams (the unreleased 1994 Roger Corman film, the mid-2000s Tim Story films, and Josh Trank's Fant4stic from a couple of years ago), none of them have been good?

Legitimately good comedy actually. Now the sequel less so.

The Name of the Rose is a good movie. Der Bewegte Mann is a German classic that won plenty of awards. Der Baader Meinhof Komplex is a great movie. The Wave is a very good movie. Pandorum is okay, Der Schuh des Manitu was one of the most successful German movies, there are also several okay movies aimed at children on the list.

They could easily take the whole plot and direction of the original game(s) and rework the necessary parts of it to make a cool, claustrophobic horror film with tense action setpieces. I was always disappointed the original films weren't that.

Please get rid of Anderson and his Mary Sue wife being in every goddamn film, because it was funny, sure, but so goddamn lazy having her get better powers in each film.

Actually focus on being somewhat close to the game storylines instead, cause there's plenty of action stuff they could use with the actual game characters since it bled over from the Anderson films.

Honestly rather have that tv series that was discussed but i'd also take movies closer to the games.

A tv series could be so good.
Raccoon City pre-outbreak following the disappearances and the S.T.A.R.S investigation-> RE0-> RE1-> Post RE1 investigation of Umbrella, etc-> Jill & RE3.

Looking through their production history, I think a Metal Gear Solid movie would actually fit them well, considering how MGS gets unapologetically weird and borders on campiness when it aims for seriousness. But a horror focused RE? I doubt it.

Reboot it and have the games characters star this time.

And actual versions of them, not just characters with the same name. Closest they got was Jill in Apocalypse, but that film was still a mess and she still took a back seat the Alice's bullshit.

No worldwide outbreak either.

I thought it might be a porno but it's real? Oh my.

The original German title is 'Fack Ju Göhte', deliberately spelled wrong. From what I recall it's a comedy about an ex-con that poses as a teacher to... I think get money they buried on school? Was a giant success over here.

Makes sense. They've been making killer money on fairly low budget, short, action films.

Why fix what isn't broke (quality of said films notwithstanding)?

Most of the actual work on the released movies has been done by Fox though I think? Constantin Film is involved cause they own the rights.
