Resident Evil Requiem - Creators' Message (Capcom Spotlight)

Lighting does looks damn insane and quite the jump from before. Impressive.

As does Grace's model. Way more detailed than anything in previous RE's.

And, yeah, I don't recall seeing any/many games that have done lighting showing through a character's hair like this before. It's pretty good.

If theres no Leon this seems like a big mistake to me.
Nah, I think that if they want to go back to horror makes sense to include someone inexperienced.

Maybe after launch they could include an action focused DLC, maybe playing as Leon or Chris.

Either the "insiders" were completely wrong
It was another lie/wrong guess from DuskGollem, like the dozen RE games he claimed to be under development but never existed, same as all the lies he said (everything he mentioned about them) SFV or SF6.

The only thing he said about RE that wasn't copy pasted by others and was right was what appeared in the RE Village reveal trailer. Everything else was fake.

So true, I replayed Resident Evil 2 remake so many times and I find the original games very replayable. I can't imagine replaying Resident Evil VII in the same way at any degree of similar frequency.
The original trilogy and RE2 Remake had that amazing balance that starts off slow and moves a bit more and more actiony as the game goes on. The thing I like about them is you were never useless even at the beginning since you could still engage in combat. And late in the game when it gets more actiony with better weapons and more ammo, it still maintain that good balance and doesn't get too crazy actiony. Which makes the original trilogy and RE2 Remake the best RE games ever.

I just watched the RE9 vid and it looks pretty good although more horror than the original trilogy/RE2 Remake. But there's a few things I hope they'll improve to make it better than RE7 and RE8 at least like not having as many sections of the game where you're useless and at least have more ways to do the stealth avoid sections. I don't mind the pure horror for RE since I do prefer the horror side more than the action side if I have to choose one.

The problem with the baby section in RE8 is it's too linear as there's always only one way to beat that section with the puzzle leading up to it and avoiding it. Now if Grace had multiple ways to avoid and finish her stealth section in RE9 than that would be a good start so replaying it would feel much better. Even better yet allow us to straight up blast the monster with weapons in a new game plus mode even if it doesn't kill it at least stun that monster like Mr.X. I actually like the Mr.X and Lady D section as those add replay value when you never know when or where they're coming so wouldn't mind them improving this for RE9. Just don't have linear stealth sections like the Baby crap in RE8 or the stupid Lucas puzzles in RE7.

I liked Leon as much as the next guy but we already played as him in RE2 Remake and RE4 remake, I personally glad we play someone else other than Leon.
Same, I actually like having new characters. It's just Ethan was boring especially since there were no cutscenes showing him in third person. Rose and Grace are/would be a lot more interesting because they'll actually appear in cutscenes giving us more connection to them.

One thing I like about Grace character model is time time around they are not going for that hyper realistic scan face, its much more stylized compare to RE7.

Agreed, I think they started going for the more style vibrant look with RE8. The enemies/characters look more interesting compared to RE7 which looks too boring.

As much as I like RE4, that game is much more of action game than horror.
RE4 and especially RE4 Remake is fun but the best would always be the original trilogy and RE2 Remake. And RE3 Remake could have been the best in a alternate timeline where the game was longer and with more Nemesis encounters and locations.

Perhaps RE9 could dethrone them all as the best.

If it's more horror and less action i might ended up playing in FPV most of the time. Here:

The third person looks better than whatever they did for the third person in RE8 so that's a good plus. Would be great if we could switch between third and first person with a button instead of going into the menu so I'll easily switch from third to first when I'm in a room in order to inspect things better and without going into the menu to interrupt the flow of the game.

Nothing wrong with VII. It's top tier RE and i didn't miss third person view in that game. DLCs were a mixed bag but loved the game itself.

Absolutely agree, he was faceless nobody while Grace has actual connection to past RE because of her mother.

I'm currently playing REVII and I'm enjoying more than I thought despite not being fan of first person view, but they some stuff I'm not big fan of the biggest one is regular mole enemies just bad design in my opinion.

If theres no Leon this seems like a big mistake to me. Going back to raccoon city with Leon revisiting it after all he's been through would be a bitter sweet surreal moment. This just sells itself. You go back to the rpd and raccoon city it's gotta be Leon there. How do you not.

Wouldn't be surprised if he's there, just not playable.

Tbh RE7&8 was like that. The boat section in RE7 and some sections of RE8 aren't fun on replays.
There's a few things RE9 could improve from them, having Grace as a actual character in cutscenes is already a big improvement.

Skippable cutscenes, and a more dynamic stealth section instead of the pure linear same pattern baby monster shit in RE8.

More interesting characters and enemy variety.

A bigger game.

I think RE9 would easily be better than RE7 and RE8, at least a lot of confidence there. As for it being the top 3 best RE games of all times like RE1 to RE3 not too sure yet but still possible.

Yeah too many things made RE7 bad, the enemy variety, the unskippable cutscenes. the boring characters and antagonist with Jack being just ok at most. The shitty boring main character Ethan, the boss battles, linear puzzle sections, The whole art style not looking as good as the later RE Engine titles.

RE8 was better as they improve upon the art style and have better gameplay and more diverse and interesting characters. So RE9 should be a step above RE8 too. RE8's only con was the baby section and the fish monster section. Had they improve those two with the same care as Hesiberg and Lady D than the game could be a easy 10/10.

Only The Castle Basement section feels like "Horror"

Village felt like too many different plates spinning on a lot of components. And while it wasn't a bad title and still one worth playing, the game wasn't executed as strongly as it could have been. The game never felt like a proper village than what I hoped we would get for one thing. RE Engine/cross gen variation and its development hindered its full potential.

So far, so good. Just don't put any lame winged/flying bosses and we'll be golden.

I totally see what they're doing though by showcasing this scary half of the game then revealing the other half and it's just Leon doing spin kicks and looking like a bitch.

They were definitely trying to please every fan with that game and it really suffered for it. It was like a buffet of mashed potatoes.

It would have been awesome if it was done better like if they actually got unique water fish humanoid hybrid creatures as the minions of the Fish boss. And in the doll section put some combat in it like the doll master fusing a army of dolls with her parasites. Hesenberg got his unique cyborg minions and Lady D got her three bitches and ghouls. But the other two don't even have unique minions like them. It's easy to see they half ass those two lords compared to Hesinberg and Lady.

Yup which is why I hate replaying Village cause of the monster baby part not because it's scary but it's annoying to replay it. Plus the intro of RE7 with unskippable cutscenes and no combat. Resident Evil should be more about a mix of combat and horror. I replayed Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 2 Remake the most out of every Resident Evil game cause it has enough action with enough horror mixed in. Sure the Sherry part was annoying but at least they are short compared to the Village baby house puzzle section and I also play Leon's side a lot more than Claires anyway.

Although I hope the pure horror as in no weapons and only hiding section is short in RE9 with most of the game being more like RE2/RE2 Remake for the perfect balance, not too horror and not too actiony.

I am not kidding. The month village launched i must have completed it around 6 times. The baby part was fine. You just run around a pattern. The doll was harder to handle as that had a few random places It could be I think?

Memory is kind of useless but I thoroughly enjoyed village. This is my most hyped game for next year, currently. Im not even watching anything on it. Im day one

I liked Village too and completed it around 5 times, it's not the part being hard but it's the exact same pattern for the baby. With the only difference being in the bed or closet. The fish boss and doll/baby boss just bought it down a bit. Still better than RE7 at least and definitely RE6 and RE0. Could have been among the top tier RE games had they done the doll and fish lord sections better. I usually complete the top RE games like RE1 to RE3 and their remakes at least over 10 times each and over 20 times each for RE2 and RE2 Remake.

RE9 is also my most hyped game next year just behind GTA VI a bit.

My man, I completely agree. Village was great for me. Not perfect but id give it a solid 8 to 8.5 but also remembered much fondly than other personal 8s. Strange thing I know but hopefully that kind of makes sense.

I agree. Fishy boy and doll were pretty weak, but for some reason I just fell completely for the "mother" plot and these batshit characters. The doll was a great character design but a poor boss.

I dont know why I had so much desire to complete it so many times. I normally only do them two or three times nowadays so I enjoyed that side.

Really excited for this. Im massively sold even if it ends up a little flawed...strange maybe its my bias for the franchise.

I'm gonna have to agree with you here. I'll take a stylized character over a realistic looking one. Sometimes a mix of the two is the best balance. I absolutely love the look of the character. I think fans are gonna love this character. Loving the hair lighting up from the lighter.

Only problem I have is they say they wanted to have Grace so it more like what the player experience is like, but Leon is to "hard-boiled" so it doesn't fit.
This makes sense for people that hasn't played a horror game before, and I don't mind it either for segments, but for us many that have been playing RE since 1996.....
we are hard-boiled and want them to heighten the horrors for us and Leon, gimping us is just annoying.

That animation of the enemy coming straight from the ceiling is so fucking slick.
I feel like in this situation she should be more terrified. Maybe have her drop the lighter or something or fall on the floor from the shock of seeing something like that. She looks too casual for that encounter.

Be taking too much away from the player in control and agency, Capcom is always about gameplay first with the fundamentals.

ugh... why cant we just get a proper REgame in the vain of REmake2.. it was perfect. The 7+ beyond games were awful...

If they want to make these kinds of action games, just use a new franchise. Resident Evil is survival horror, this is not Resident Evil to me.

Thought 7 was great until the boat section which then carried over for most of the mediocre/ disappointing Village entry (that Rose DLC was absolutely terrible too)
For me I am 1-1 in enjoying the latest Resident Evil style, so hoping this is good.
Not feeling too confident as it still seems to have some those cringe and annoying tropes from Village, but hoping gameplay is good.

Still like 8 months away so looking forward to something that actually sells me on it for certain.

They name dropped him in the video that he can't be the main character in a game where someone has to be scared every now and then.

He's most definitely a secondary character ala Chris in RE Village. You don't just namedrop Leon out of thin air for no reason. They could have said any other character.
It seems from my own experience, games are either about having new experiences or having tons of value. I believe Capcom can do both the right way but if I've to pick I'd choose having tons of value as an og re fan.

Well this was a nothing burger. We got a wig expert lol.
IDK, but to me, having the option to switch between 1st and 3rd person doesn't sit right. I mean, stick with one vision. Excel in that. Other than that, yeah..not much shown.

I wish they'd just force everybody into FPV instead of giving options. Anyway, I am not really looking forward to this game for some reason.

I think the message that you can't make a horror game with a character which is not easily scared is just wrong.
Look at Silent Hill 2 Remake (and the original), it's scary as fuck, but the protagonist is also not scared easily.

Silent Hill is a little different though. The story has a more heavy psychological horror. RE is maybe more straightforward virus / infected / lab test subjects and all that.

Something's off. On the one hand, release date is super close and they have been very coy about showcasing the game. Not showing the demo shown behind closed doors is weird. This game might have multiple campaigns, just like RE6 did.
