I've been trying to get into reviewing games more and was wondering what everyone of my review for this. Any criticism is welcomed, let me know what I should do differently and what not.

  • Good job.
  • I've never personally cared for story synopsis' in reviews of this sort. You do keep it brief, but I think a synopsis of the beginning of an episode coupled with your impressions of the ending should suffice. You also give a synopsis of the first part of the episode's conclusion, and I'm not sure that's necessary.
  • Your review of the gameplay is great, especially in the comparison's with the previous games.
  • Your review of the graphics was, again, comprehensive.
  • If you're doing PC reviews perhaps it would be a good idea to present your specs up-front in the video? It might also be useful to clarify that it's a PC review in the title (perhaps that might get more specialist viewers)?
  • For a 7 minute review I feel like you did a really good job of covering all of the facets of the game. Nicely done.

Good job. It's well produced and you come across really clearly. Certainly better than most reviews.

Is it a common thing that I can't see anyone else on the Raid leaderboards (PC version)? I'm still properly ranked but I only see myself with no options to filter the board. The leaderboards for the episodes work fine.
Also, is the PC version the japanese version for everyone? With the japanese texts on start and the title saying Biohazard instead of Resident Evil?

Pretty much what I was going to say. Follow this guy's tips!

sure, it's got a return to classic style RE 'one big area that you explore to find items to advance with' level design instead of point-to-point shooting alongside decent feeling combat (in terms of mechanics and enemy design).
the balance in terms of good play/resource usage and the combat system helps to serve to add proper tension to the game rather than removing it or making it irritating it via oversupplying or under-supplying of ammunition and enemy health.

the thing is since it's the first section of the game, it's hard to tell how they'll expand on these to create an interesting gameplay scenario. like barry's scenario is already generally focused towards being a simple point a to point b affair, but the gimmicks of the individual areas were still decent enough to overshadow that design- the combined gameplay gimmick and atmosphere gimmicks worked well enough for an intro section

based on what i've seen from the 4 spoiled enemies in raid mode alongside the other general gimmicks found in it, there's a real chance that the campaign could continue in pretty interesting gameplay and atmosphere directions but it's hard to ignore the potential for disaster too.

my personal downsides are that the texturework is kinda poor and a very distinct lack of goring re: enemies, which are most likely due to limitations put on by the development for the vita version. well, that and how raid mode's higher difficulty settings don't have new layouts for enemies (which is actually the biggest disappointment to me)

also you have to consider i have pretty weird tastes i guess

edit: also "yeah, but it's only $25"
if the game actually turns out to be pretty good as a whole package i'm gonna be kinda bummed out that it's a budget title
Thanks for the impressions! One quick question, why does the retail version cost $39,99???

Have you had a quick peek at the main gate?

I've tried to get the knife only episode 1 achievement 3 times now and it won't unlock, that last time I'm 100% sure my companions done nothing to mess with me >.<

Here are a few tips for the knife achievement/trophy:

When you are done with the Claire's scenario, instead of choosing continue, choose quit and then Barry's scenario from the menu. I've heard that helps.

Also, do NOT aim at all with any of the characters. Do NOT use the light or point or anything like that. Knife slashes only. Try to just run past most enemies as well.

The flame thrower trap does not stop you from getting the achievement. Stealth kills are fine as well.

Thank you for that! It actually means a lot hearing constructive criticism from people both good and bad. Will be changing the title of the video too.

I need episode 2 ASAP.

And I'm still playing a lot of Raid Mode everyday. I can't remember getting so much gameplay time out of a single episode of a game before.

Episode 2 is this Friday, right?

Agreed. Mostly because things are always spawning on top of you.

The arenas in Revelations 1 Raid were way worse though, remember fighting cloaked hunters + wolves in the one with the shipping containers? God, that sucked.
That was like the only mission like that, though. Nearly all of the Raid missions in REV1 were proper levels. Hopefully more of the RER2 missions will be like that.

Really doubtful. The port is being handled by Sony. If you want to get it for Vita, you should probably hold out. It's been confirmed recently that it will come out this Spring.

Okay cool thanks. I was worried it would come out way after all the episodes did

So what is the verdict on Episode 1 thus far? Is it a proper return to survival horror and not another lame action game like RE6?
It's an action game where you can run low on ammo if you don't carefully pick your shots, so you end up proceeding slowly the first time through, to avoid being jumped.

I never found RE1 to be scary or clever in its puzzles, so not sure what you're looking for other than resource management.

The day after tomorrow?? :-O

I wonder what kind of settings and scenarios will be in Episode 2...

But there were definitely more areas where, mid level, you'd have an arena-style fight against a group of enemies randomly spawning in all around you. Typically hunters.

There are fewer of those moments this time around, and they're often shorter with fewer enemies to deal with. It feels like better, more intelligent design in that sense.

Raid mode is getting boring...is there any difference between Lvl 30 and Lvl 80 except bigger numbers everywhere...?
Right now you're limited to three sets of missions (so like 18 missions), each of which have Hard and Very Hard variants that remix the enemies slightly, etc.

I'm sure as more episodes are added, and more map packs are added, we'll see even more variety in terms of enemies, etc.

It's already quite robust as is. Heck of a value for the cost of admission.

Um what's with the level progression? Recommended level jumps from 28 to 38?

Uh... wtf? We suddenly have to grind 8-10 levels? That's kind of absurd.

Raid was just about perfect in RER1. Loved it in single-player, in local co-op, and online.

The true measure of whether RER2 can compare is if it has a Ghost Ship equivalent.

Imagine an "Island" map that lets you pick a path through every area from the story. :-O

Are you playing the Hard and Very Hard gauntlets? I think they expect you to do those in between the regular gauntlets. For example, lv. 11 is recommended for the sixth mission of Gauntlet 2, then it jumps to lv. 14 for the first mission of Gauntlet 3. I decided to start doing the "Hard" version of Gauntlet 1 (which recommends lv. 11) to increase my levels before trying Gauntlet 3.

Btw just a warning:

Apparently Capcom has really fucked up this DLC... at least for NA. Most know by now about the throwback map pack not working. But I just want to warn that some of the actual DLC doesn't work.

For example, I purchased weapon storage A, and it works fine. But parts storage A doesn't work. It DL'd and installed fine... but it's not there in game.

lol.

Yes it's a smooth progression until the last two sections. G2 V.Hard is a sudden ten level jump. And then G3 V.Hard is a five level jump from the last recommended G2.

I'm starting to think that staggered progression is actually hidden in the episode 2 content! Very asinine of them. Did they not think anyone would get through the raid sections in a week?

Thoroughly enjoyed episode 1, but I felt that Barry's section could have done with being longer.

And goddamn at how OP brick wielding Natalia is . Same with Moira and her flashlight of doom. I didn't feel in danger once nor did I feel any sense of urgency during any combat encounters, but that's not too big of a concern right now as I'm sure the difficulty will ramp up significantly as the episodes go on.

RAID mode is bloody incredible though, they've perfected the formula here. I really hope they continue to build on it with lots more stages, characters, enemy varieties.

Are there any pics online showing all of the Raid costumes? Like are there other Claire outfits planned? (She's my highest level character so far)

I think Resident Evil Revelations 2 is off to a good start. I don’t know if will achieve much more than being a decent game, but this is the first time in a long time that I’m excited to play and talk about a Resident Evil that’s not 1-4. I think that’s a good sign.

You're a mod for the Capcom boards? If so, please keep asking about this. It needs to be fixed.

Yeah he is. I used to be one, too, but I rebelled because Capcom kept pissing me off so I just left.

But yeah they need to fix that.

Also I heard someone mention a $19.99 upgrade from the single episode version. Is this a PC only option? Because I saw it nowhere on PS4 unless it's within the game menu.

This game can fuck right off for crashing every time I start a Raid mission. Jesus why do I even put up with this piece of shit.

I can't really say a lot about this but I think that Revelations 2 will in the end appeal much more greatly to long term fans of the series than Revelations 1 did.

Especially Episode 3 and 4.

But I might've already said too much. >_>

He sounds so familiar. What else did this VA do? Was he in Revelations 1?

Crackdown announcer.

Now you can't unhear his sarcasm.

Claire http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0385029/
Barry http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0566332/
Moira
Natalia http://www.imdb.com/name/nm4143431/
Overseer http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0569479/

I can't find any traces of the actress who plays Moira. Apparently their name is Marcella Mazde but I literally can't find a trace of her :/

I thought Rev 1 was kind of brilliant for being able to craft so many twists and turns and reveals with what was largely an all-new cast of characters. I am interested, though, in seeing what connections Rev 2 has to the series at large. I can tell you're struggling to keep these reveals to yourself, haha. :)

I am just super impressed that, unlike with Revelations 1, Capcom really went back and looked at stuff they could reasonably follow up with. I'm just so shocked to see them actually following up on plot points introduced in previous games.

KMGOUDHFDUIFIDFJF I want to talk about it

I like how after claire says about being a sandwich, Moira says "man, does he tell everyone that story"

I can't remember if you're one of the people who hates Rev1, but I really loved that game and hope we see another game at some point with Parker, Jessica, etc.

"I'm buying you lunch." Goddammit Parker, you're too charming.

Yeah, I loved that touch. At first I was like "how the fuck did she know about this" and they explained it straight away. Good stuff.

I didn't mind Rev1 but after playing Rev2 which has a smaller budget than it but is clearly a more endearing Resident Evil game it's really lowered my opinion of Rev1. I hate the entire cast of supporting characters too. Sorry :(

LOL, it's quite alright :)

Am I the only one playing as Moira? I'm doing this because I want to find all hidden objects. Can you see any of that with Clair?
When playing in single-player, I'm like 70% Moira and 30% Claire. If there's no enemy on screen, I'm Moira, shining my flashlight on everything. As soon as an enemy appears, I stun it with the flashlight, switch to Claire, and finish the fight. Then it's back to Moira. :)

Same with Barry and Natalia. I spend most of the time as Natalia since she's sneaky, can spot enemies and uncover ammo for Barry.

In Raid, though, I mainly focus on Claire (Rodeo Claire, to be precise). My secondaries are Moira (Urban Ninja) and Jill, but I haven't leveled them much yet.

Just started Raid Mode and I'm somehow back to Level 1 and all my stuff is gone. I was Level 6 or 7 when I last played.

All my enthusiasm for the mode just went out the window.

Smoke bomb... lol.

So OP... especially when you have a melee-based character. And at least through its first five levels, you get an extra bottle with every upgrade. Basically a free kill on any enemy that's super annoying.

There is a pretty difficult boss battle in Episode 3 that is the same way. Smoke bottles kind of break the game :/

Well they don't seem to work on zombies, but otherwise....

As far as SP it seems generally pretty easy to break.

All your talk of future episodes is intriguing me...

Are you satisfied with what you know of the settings, enemies, bosses, etc., in the remaining episodes?
