Resident Evil Revelations 2 Reviews Thread

IGN is 7 for those who can't watch video.

Seems like it's solid. Going off what I've played so far (about an hour), I agree with the scores.

I really haven't kept up with this game much, tho I am a Resident Evil fan. Watching those reviews, it looks clunky as fuck. What are your opinions on it so far GAF (for those of you playing it)?
Reviews seem positive so far, might check it out when all episodes are available.

The episodic release for this game doesn't make much sense, it's clearly finished already.

It looked kinda bad in previews/footage, I guess it's a bit better than what I expected.

Decent game, one of the characters makes me want to take a hammer to my own head to end the torture, but other then that and some odd balance issues you could do alot worse then for 5.99.

I really cannot understand the point of waiting for whole episodes to be released before Disc release comes out. When is the release date for the disc ?

So its better than
Order
RE:R HD or not? Call me shocked, i expected 5-6 from 10 scores.

Many playing it in the OT and the reviews say it's an improvement over Revelations 1, so seems better for many. Many in the OT also saying it has more horror elements and atmosphere than Revelations, which makes me happy.

The big complaints seem to be the hallway design in areas in the game, some mediocre puzzles, and some really don't like Moira. But Raid Mode, the atmosphere and music, and the cliffhanger ending are all being praised quite a bit.

That sounds good since I found Rev to be pretty boring! I'm wavering on starting when part 2 comes out now though.

I'm not liking how Sony has been handling pre-orders lately, when it comes to games bundled with season passes. .

One set of Resident Evil Revelations 2 Pre-Orders are not linked properly on Sony's servers, resulting in a number of users being sent broken links to pre-orders that won't pre-load, and entitlements (such as starting the game) not being properly linked to library files.

If you pre ordered Resident Evil Revelations 2 before a certain date (AFAIK months ago), it is not linked properly to Sony's pre-order system. It did not recognize the file as pre-downloadable.

Sony currently has another glitched file on PSN, and it's purely due to how they choose to flag people as pre-ordered. :

There's a file missing on the PSN servers that people who tried to pre-order would attempt to download, and it will return an error code.

It appears to be a placeholder for a Resident Evil Complete Season link that is currently 0kb, Maybe the plan is to one day change that to a complete season file, but as for now all that 0kb file does is break the license restore function on PSN.

The PS4 attempts to validate that file with PSN, and PSN is telling the PS4 that it's not a valid file. Or to be more specific the PS4 gets an error code saying that the server connection has been lost.

I kinda want to get this, but for the coop, do you have to complete the SP levels first before you can coop with a friend like Revelations 1? That really upset me.

Yeah I really wouldn't be thinking that has any chance of happening unless they are meaning end of Mayish.

I'm trying to remain hopeful. Just wish they would throw us some info.

I'm sure MT Framework should look and run great on the Vita, considering how excellent Revelations looked and performed on the 3DS. I just want an idea of what kind of sacrifices are going to be made to get it on the system.

Well that sucks, I can't get the Throwback stage pack anymore, just cause I wanted to wait for reviews? Are there alot of levels apart of that thing for Raid mode? Probably not gonna get it now if I'm missing out on tons of content just cause I didn't pre-order and wanted to wait for reviews before I decided whether it would be worth the money or not.

I think you can still get it with the deluxe edition that has the two bonus episodes and extra raid characters as well.

I was looking into getting it on PS4, and the only option I see now is the regular season which includes the 4 episodes and 1 raid character, but makes no mention of the throwback pack anymore :(

Pre-order on PS4 is over as it's playable now, but there is the Complete Pack, which includes everything in the game (the Thorwback pack, Wesker as a character, the costumes, soundtrack, etc.) for $39.99.

How much are these selling for?

Also do we need any previous knowledge of older games to play it?

$6 per episode, or you can get all four episodes (plus two bonus episodes, not detailed what these are yet) for $25.

There's also some DLC for the game's bonus mode, Raid Mode, which includes stages, characters, costumes (costumes also can be used in the episodes). This pack of everything goes for $40. If not interested in Raid Mode stuff or costumes though, the whole base game can be gotten for the $25 Complete Season pack. Or buy them weekly, if that's how you prefer it.

I think it can be enjoyed by itself, but the game has a number of references to past games, but I don't think designed where you have to have played them to enjoy it. A few dialogue references, and two of the main characters (Claire Redfield and Barry Burton) were in previous games in the series.

7/8 out or 10 sounds great. I can't wait to play after work. I just enjoyed the shit out of a 5 out of 10 game according to reviewers so I can see myself loving this.

So glad to see the good reviews, can't wait to play it mself.

I've been saying from the start that the game looked decent despite the overwhelming negativity in every thread, I'm glad it turned out ok.

7 is good enough considering the budget pricing. probably co-op this with a friend.

is the story as crappy as the first revelations? I know RE isn't exactly strong in the story department but the first revelations was beyond cheesy.

I will say thus far reviews are better than I was expecting. Not like, this game is amazing, but it sounds like it's good, which I expected to enjoy this and it not be received so well, but call me pleasantly surprised.

Few more reviews:

Game Revolution: 3.5/5
Altogether, the sum of the parts for this first episode makes for an enjoyable run and, despite the rocky start, will make gamers look forward to the next episode. Though nothing is over-the-top incredible about each piece individually, it all links together in a way that only Resident Evil games somehow can manage—maybe not everything on the sampler platter is as tasty as the next, but altogether it's pretty darn good.

So we come back to the nature of a spin-off, and why Revelations 2 works. For me a spin-off has a responsibility to do different things, to take the core subject-matter and do something that for whatever reason the 'main' games can't. By these lights Revelations 2 is a good spin-off. But if you hold off for a month, it might yet turn out a great one.
