Nathan is the only one without a helmet too. That's how u no hes hardcore :lol

Damn heroes and their helmets. Either their to cool to wear them or to wimpy to take them off.

Geek, what's the source of the originals? I ask because they look like they were blown up to begin with. They don't look like framebuffer shots.

They came from the Sony press web site.

There are I am sure, but at the same time there are people would would do the opposite and say it looks bad just because it is a PS3 shot.

As far as the screens I think they look pretty on par with what is "average/ slightly above average" as far as next gen goes. Hopefully since all they are doing now is basically working on the graphics it will move solidly into the above average range.

Agree with you mate, these screens are average, but seeing it running it looks better and with a few weeks left im sure it will look better than it did at e3.

Insomniac mentioned that the game incorporated new lighting recently. I mean, I'm not totally sure what they mean with that(or rather, what we should expect from that). It doesn't have real time shadows(well, atleast not for everything Doom 3 style) so what... they pressed 'build lights' a second time in their game editor? :p Pre baked lighting. I mean, they can add effects like bloom and whatnot but I can't see how it makes it look wildly better.

edit: I guess Dark Messiah is a good example though with it's hdr lighting.

Yeah, these shots are actually from late June/Early July, and were exclusive print mag shots until late last week. So they are old, but new to the web :)

thanks for the info but it still looks great IMO! Why is Sony releasing all this old media all of a sudden? First it was that dvd full of e3 trailers and now this :(

Yeah, that looks crappy. I think some of the textures look great upclose in Resistance, though. They must be using detail textures for some objects but not for others.

I think this game is really coming along nicely... To be honest, I like the graphics in the RnC series, and Spyro was ok in it's own way... but their gameplay was top-notch and when the game was in motion, how it moved, was what really put an impressive touch on things...

Now that they're producing something with graphics that are actually nice looking, and still having time to polish them up, and if they apply that same top-notch gameplay and game motion, this will be a winner... This has quickly became my "must have" PS3 launch game...

I can't wait to see the final product... can't wait to see it in motion, the gameplay, graphics, and the way it sounds (something else Insomniac is great at too)... Still can't believe this is a launch title... but there's always a chance it could pull a PD0 and truely suck when you play it, but, I have faith in Insomniac...

I don't have the flickr account. Can someone rehost these somewhere in the full resolution?

Yeah I'd like to see the high res shots.. anyone want to imageshack them or something?

I didn't know what to call that thing :lol

I mean, these are still screens from a build that's from before the game goes into beta. And, once more, it has been said that once it enters this stage the game will look completely different in terms of polish/visual effects/etc. So, I still hold hope.

The best picture is still Nathan's head shot. It's nice to see a character which doesn't look greasy, plasticy, zombiefied, or with chunky ears (all my personal pet peeves with many next gen characters)

I'm not like everyone else, critiquing every little bit of every shot. Honestly the game looks top notch to me. It's insomniac, and I love RnC, so I'll definitely get this at launch.

Even the 2556x1440 screenshots aren't native resolution. The ones on flickr also have lots of compression artifacts and are oddly fuzzy.

Those look great I haven't seen them yet, I have a lot of faith in the guys at Insomniac to deliver a great launch title.

These screens were taken before a lot of the recent polishing has gone into the game.

In another thread I said lighting has been going in. This is one of the last things to go into some of these levels. This lighting is essentially another coating of polish that really just gives some areas a completely different feel. Some seem to be taking that comment a bit out of context (NeoGAF etc.). The overall point is that we're in the polishing phase now, and the game is continuing to look better and better and some levels have made huge jumps over the past month.

From an Insomniac dev:

What the hell does polish mean? The game was pretty error free at E3: I didn't see any texture wrapping or pixilation there....

ask him if they will be adding motion blur or and filters in the final game

Why would they add motion blur to a FPS?

You forgot:

Post-processing Effects []

Seriously go play these games:

F.E.A.R.
Lost Planet
PGR3
Hitman Blood Money

And come back here! I am telling you right now that you'd want all those things (sparks, blur, ppe etc) in all next gen games. I mean these effects define next generation! They should be in all games

I've played FEAR, Lost Planet, and PGR3 and I don't want those effects in Resistance, they're overused by developers who throw these effects in their games because the systems are now powerful enough instead of using these effects because they make sense.

I've played three of those four and I don't agree. And it's not like any of those features (or even more than one in combination) is somehow exclusive to next-gen. I don't think running down a checklist of technical features to include is any kind of way to make a quality game, for any generation of hardware.

Its a spider you fool!

Bigboss = you are talking like a newbie. sparks, motion blur, and ppe haven't not been overused at all! The only thing that has been overused is normal mapping

Its not about quality its about graphics. I mean are you really saying that Resistance wouldn't benefit from F.E.AR. particle effect system? I mean there were only a handful of games last gen that did sparks properly (Burnout, Ootogi 2 and ZOE2). IMO a better particle system would add finesse to the gun fights.

Things like motion blur and PPE’s would only improve graphics fidelity and make the games “next gen”

yes sparks are very important in FPS games

Have you played BF1942?? The game has a pathetic particle effect system! Maybe I should take some pics and upload em here

I guess we'll have to wait for the latest build to see whether any of these will be put in.

I'm not sure if Resistance will have a steel mill level.
