Returnal Review Thread (PS5)

Remember how people were saying when The Verge first started up with all those MS funded videos it was still going to be an impartial outlet....

Oh boy! What does he say?
I will gather and post screenshots , but in short "Ryan Johnson created a masterpiece and the proper background for Rey, people hate on TLJ because they hate women/have a problem with women leads/outrage merchants… etc…"

That is the real me... very old pic (maybe 2009 I believe) where I was the first man in the wedding of my buddy.
I'm a bit different now (older) and with beard.

That one is very recent from late March I believe 🤭 ohhh my beard is getting white but weirdly the hair not.

Can I have an autograph Jim?

They can't, he gave a bad score to the game they didn't play.

Congratulations to Housemarque for the great scores btw.
It's to do with the reasons he gives and when you compare to other reviews posted by himself. At least read the posts before you make a stupid comment.

Completely transparent.

For real, we had Tom Warren tweeting stuff about graphical issues on the PS5 version of AC:Valhalla was due to overclocking. He also tweeted a lot of other stuff that was pretty much the same stuff troll accounts were posting on twitter related to the makeup of PS5. Some of them he removed, some he didn't. Extremely unprofessional behavior.

Impartial, my ass

Sounds like Housemarque should have named the game Reyturnal. 🤭

spiderman is fucking trash
and crackdown 3 was way better then that,

People hated on crackdown 3 and i still do not get why until this day,
Besides Microsoft being absolute incapable of marketing that game. with their BS power of the cloud shit
I binged crackdown 3 game was old-school fun. And if you can't see that i feel sorry for you.

Crackdown 3 is good game and that other reviewer giving the medium a 100. Gotta make do with what you got i guess.
For honestys sake, that TheGamer publication gave Demon's Souls 10/10 so i blame it more on gross incompetence rather that intentional/biased

Man... Crackdown 3 is a shadow of the original.
I have no ideia how they took so many years to create something so mediocre.

i never played the originals. All i know is that the game felt like an old 360 era game. And i had a shit ton of fun playing it.
meanwhile microsoft was marketing it to be the next new halo for xbox .

the game was so much fun. that's it . Not every game needs to be AAAA

1. it wasn't what they promised
2. The power of the cloud was a joke
3. The destruction compared to what they originally showed was nerfed beyond belief
4. It had a hard lock on system where there was no skill involved
5. if felt as if there was no evolution between 1-3
6. terry crews was the only intriguing thing about the game

Watched a few reviews and checked some streams, seems like these guys knocked it out of the park.

While I get the $70 lol crowd, I'm on the other side. Roguelikes have been one of my favourite genres for a while and I'm ecstatic some developer took the chance on making one with a large scale/budget/production values. Hope this opens the door for other devs to do the same.
Although i'm of the impression that 70 is a bit high for any game, the value of stuff is given by ourselves. If i find that a game deserves 70€, nobody is going to convice me otherwise. In the last years , the only game i bought full price at release was crusader kings 3 and most people here wouldn't pay 10€.

They did their job and they did it well, no reason to go 70€ lol.

Looks like I'll be waiting to see if they add some kind of easy / casual difficulty setting. Sounds intriguing from all of the available reviews, but I am not one for very difficult games.

By the way, talking to you in a friendly tone but it's inaudible through text. I don't like Rougelike games, same with Resogun, but this game offers much, much more than that.
So...you are buying Returnal but won't touch Souls games? Is it because of their difficulty level? Because Returnal seems to be just as hard.

Borrow a copy of Dark Souls 1-3 or Bloodborne and play at your own pace...maybe it just clicks and you become a Hidetaka Miyazaki follower too. :)

The thing that stuck out at me watching the IGN review, the no save thing is a dealbreaker for me, at least on release. I just don't have hours to kill if the punishment for not grinding enough is too high.
Definitely waiting for user impressions.

Here comes the hive-mind expectations. You guys understand reviews are opinion pieces right? That means you can expect someone to like it and another person to not like it. I never understood the attack towards someone opinion especially when you can just avoid it.

Btw anyone else use Amazon to preorder? They are saying fucking Tuesday? I have prime and preordered and they cant get me this game on launch? Like wtf?

Pss, housemarque really drop the ball on this one. This could have been above 90 critical acclaim. I want this game to be successfully for housemarque because most of their games don't sell. Balance difficulty and address the save option during long run would help reviewers and potential buyers tremendously. IGN dock 1 point from 9 to 8 because of the saving option. Wtf. What a major oversight.

For sure. I think the F2P model has skewed the value of games a bit for some people. There's a lot of factors that will influence what people consider worth it.

CK3 to me is a no brainer at that price (even though I personally just subbed to gamepass for a few months after its release).
