I work for the Florida DEP-

Apparently nobody is allowed to write "climate change" in official documents because the governor is Republican. Have to find creative ways around the phrase.

Republicans, man.

Defend this, Diablos. I dare you to defend this, ou coward. You and the rest of the GAF trumpeteers , as well as the rest of the people in this country, are the reason we are in this mess, so thanks a lot.

He's banned.

My mom was the same way.

"Oh, honey, if he's bad, it's ONLY four years. Besides, we have checks and balances. And I think he's gotten right with God, so I trust him."

I told her, in no uncertain terms, "Mom, he is everything you raised me not to be."

She doesn't like him, but "you stick with your team" and "at least he's not Hillary".

My aunt is far, far more zealous about it. "He's God's chosen man! He's going to save us and make our nation a godly nation again! No more atheists! The Muslim is out of office!"

You can't choose your family.

My condolences.

Isn't electoral college weighted system resulting in not all votes being equal? System like that can be played, surprised it took this long.

The EC was exploited in 2000 as well. The only election in the last 24 years in which the Republican won the popular vote was in 2004.

I'd never thought America would eventually become an even bigger joke than in the Bush years, but here we are. Although it's a bit more difficult to laugh at you guys this time. I will say thanks to Trump voters for ruining it for the rest of us, though.

The electoral college was meant to prevent this trash. So much for that.

Anyone defending the purpose of the electoral college after this is an idiot. It's nothing but democratic obfuscation and vote suppression all while being completely ineffective at preventing shit-tier candidates.

There's a small rift going on in one side my family between Trump supporters and the ones against him.

Not so surprisingly, with the exception of one person who voted for Trump so he wouldn't have to pay as much taxes, the rift is pretty much along the lines of who has a post secondary education and who doesn't. 🤔

Please do, the sooner American hegemony ends the better.
After my phd Europe was a consideration but main target was Silicon Valley . Now I'm seriously going to give proper thought to places like Netherlands Germany etc .

It's built on the assumption that public would never be stupid enough to make an insanely unqualified, quantifiably insane person a presidential nominee or that one party would be so vehemently against the people's best interest

Yep I live in the Bay Area and all the tech people don't give a fuck. Their morals are complete shit. And I'm ashamed I want to get into the industry now after seeing their true face.

My condolences.

I don't really need them. Nearly 50% of the nation needs them more than I do.

The thing is... I understand where my mom, my aunt, and so many others are coming from. Surrounding yourself in a bubble, lamenting the "threat" against Christian religion by "outside" Muslims, of listening to only Fox News, of being well and truly afraid that the nation is going down a dark path with daily news reports of drugs and riots and violence...

It created a massive swell of desperate, terrified people. And the thing about fear is that it makes people irrational. Even kind, loving people when they're afraid will make rash, desperate decisions, often with good but misguided intentions. They want what we all want: to feel safe and to be happy, and they only know that this election cycle, they didn't feel safe and they weren't happy.

So a snake-oil salesman comes along making grandiose promises of restoring their lost joy, of making them feel safe and secure, of doing what the failed politicians have not. He's an outsider. He's a rebel. Surely, if the establishment failed us, a maverick with the backing of the people can restore what partisan rules, regulation, and rhetoric have not. What do they have to lose, they tell themselves.

When people ask how so many people can vote for an inept manchild with zero experience and a proven track record of misogyny and racism, I can only think back at history's examples that caused humanity at large to ask that same question. How did Nazi Germany rise to power? Off the backs of desperate, depressed people who were promised a return to glory. How did Jim Jones manage to convince 918 people to commit suicide? Because he convinced all those desperate people it was the only escape and peace left to them and their broken dreams. "Death is a million times preferable to 10 more days of this life. If you knew what was ahead of you – if you knew what was ahead of you, you'd be glad to be stepping over tonight," he told them. How did we wind up imprisoning 120,000 of our own American citizens in Japanese internment camps? Based on the fears plaguing the white majority following the attack on Pearl Harbor, desperate to lock up all the Asian-Americans to feel safer and more secure in their own homes at night...

"Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

We are currently repeating history.

And, sadly, I get the impression future generations will read about us right now as a cautionary tale for their own futures.

If eventually Trump pushes the line far enough that even some of the anti-Hillary crowd admit voting for him was a mistake, is that enough evidence to tell them all of their future political opinions are garbage?

I am an orphan.
My dad is only one who is for Trump, so I've just try to avoid talking politics with him. The real issue is my younger brother, because he just believes what my dad says. (ie Dad, why are people rioting against Trump? Because they're racist liberals). A glimmer of hope is that he believes in climate change and evolution, and thinks our dad is riduclous for thinking it's not science/a hoax

Lmao same here. The loud and proud supporters in my family are obnoxious. Trump can do no wrong at the moment and they want "CNN and the liberal agenda defeated once and for all".

My fiancé's in a similar position. Both of her parents love Trump, while we're over here having our heart broken with every new piece of news, attending marches and protests, and trying our hardest to push back against this heinous new administration. Unfortunately, we're still relying on them for a little bit of financial support right now, as my fiancé is between jobs. She feels that as soon as she finds decent work though, we're going to be drastically limiting our contact with them, and we both agree they likely won't have much of a relationship with their grand-children, should my fiancé and I actually have children. (Something the current shape of the world might cause as to pass on)

It really sucks, but there's only so many hate-filled holiday rants you can take.

Wow..

I expect PBS, NPR, and NASA to be on the chopping block soon.

I find that very ironic because historically wasn't the Democratic party the one that spent less on NASA than Republicans?

Fuck the GOP. They're just fucking evil at this point. I'm hoping history is going to look back at them and judge them. Harshly.

Evolved1

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
Everything that is innately important to me they are attacking. It is difficult to even process it, to be completely honest.

This is the country where half the people are idiots that couldn't remember the horrible shit that happened 8 years under Bush. Good luck for them remembering the GOP harshly.

I mean, all of it is insane, but I didnt know about those two

I really do think that Women's March spooked him so deeply that some of this might be backlash against the protesters. "Oh yeah? Well I'm cutting funding to THIS Civil Rights organization! And I'm putting a gag order on the EPA! And how dare you tell me not to employ torture tactics! I'm the president! You can't tell me what to do! Torture is back on the menu! What other rights do you cling to? I'll go after those, too!"

He's shook and, like any toddler being told "no", he's grown angry and petty and spiteful. Only this is a big baby with the nuclear launch codes.

But if he thinks that trying to silence the media and strip Americans of their rights will be the end of it... he's sorely mistaken.

There are things worth fighting for, and worth dying for, and in the war between the American people and his fragile ego, I'd put my money on him breaking long before the American people do.

If he expects us to just shut up and go quietly into the night, he's going to be in for a very rude awakening and a very miserable term in office.

The vast majority of funding for climate science and observation comes from the US, mostly because we have the most/newest satellites and equipment. Even other agencies which would theoretically step up to fill the void would likely have to petition the US government for satellite use.

This science is extremely important to the future of humanity and it doesn't matter who is the worst when it comes to pollution when it comes to that importance.

What really gets me is that even though they're going to be actively trying to kill us for the next four years (at least), the moment the Democrats have the upper hand they're going to reach across the aisle and allow them to fight back because liberals are a bunch of fucking losers. Rainbows and sunshine and flowers and love.

I truly wish Democrats would outwardly and openly HATE Republicans the same way they do us.

The only first world nation where half of its government (and thus I assume population) denies climate change is the US. Every other country just takes it as a fact and don't even challenge it. Even my in many ways backwards ass third world Mexico takes it as a fact! Climate change denying is not a thing here! We have other shit to worry about but our past President believed it and now our present one from a rival political party (who has dismal approval ratings like Trump as well) also believes in it.

Denying climate change is almost exclusively an American thing, I swear.

Undoubtedly every nation has some people who deny climate change but i'm pretty sure USA is the only place where it is a systematic thing.

I mean, fucking North Korea accepts its existence and is doing small things to fight it (planting trees, which is still more than Republicans do).

There's a strand of British conservatism that shares this absurd position, but it's not as influential as its American counterpart to be sure.

My dream is the Democrats take a few seats in 2018, then steamroll in 2020 and just go complete bonkers ape-shit on the Republicans.

Thats mine too but if this election was anything to go by Democratic voters suck monkey balls. The level of apathy towards the election was unbelievable.

A good start would be to choose a better candidate that fucking Hillary Clinton.

Even China! Arguably the world's biggest polluter believes in climate change!

There are nonbelievers everywhere but no country has half of its population thinking its all a hoax where they're so many it can be used as leverage in elections!

I think we might be the only nation on the planet that still, officially, denies climate change. I tried looking up other nations and even North Korea believes in climate change.

A July report by the Sierra Club found that the leaders of the 195 independent states of the world all acknowledge climate science and the need for action. The study concludes that “if elected, Donald Trump would be the only world leader today to deny the science of climate change. In fact, a review of the data indicates that Trump might very well be the only world leader not calling for urgent climate action.” Well, now that has come to fruition.

Insane.

“We’ve got the scientists, we’ve got the lawyers and we’re ready to fight. We’re ready to defend,” Governor Brown said to boisterous applause at the American Geophysical Union conference in San Francisco.

“And, if Trump turns off the satellites, California will launch its own damn satellite,” he added. “We’re going to collect that data.”

He said if the federal government “starts messing with” the state’s renowned science facilities, such as Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, “I am the president of the Board of Regents. I am going to say, ‘Keep your hands off. That laboratory is going to pursue good science.’ ”

“We will set the stage. We’ll set the example,” Brown added. “And whatever Washington thinks they are doing, California is the future.”

It's quite impressive how this administration is somehow consistently managing to do even worse than we could possibly imagine beforehand. Like we know stupid shit would happen, stupid shit would be said, but they're really going all in total-moron mode with every decision, speeches, press relations and public appearances so far!

I work for the Florida DEP-

Apparently nobody is allowed to write "climate change" in official documents because the governor is Republican. Have to find creative ways around the phrase.

Republicans, man.
How much longer until they have climate and environment books pulled from schools, libraries and Amazon? They could have a good ole-fashioned book burning.

Make it illegal to teach kids about climate change in schools. Bar it from the curriculum. Environmental science is the devil's work.

Not long, did you see that DeVos character? She will be in charge of schools. :/
I suppose we know the first thing she'll be doing once she's confirmed then now, don't we?
That's okay, though... the schools will still have their guns to protect against grizzlies.

I find that very ironic because historically wasn't the Democratic party the one that spent less on NASA than Republicans?

Fuck the GOP. They're just fucking evil at this point. I'm hoping history is going to look back at them and judge them. Harshly.

I don't think we can leave it to history...if things get bad enough he will need to be kicked out. If he can't see the bigger picture, then he doesn't deserve to wield so much influence. We can't be reasonable forever...

And the parents will cheer since their kids won't be forced to learn about that liberal propaganda

I'm really confused how any of this sort of thing is legal. They can just order people what to do? Like you Trump walks in and everyone says yes m'lord. What happened to land of the free, home of the brave, the endless chant of USA, the rest of the world has to suffer through. Is no one capable of just saying no I'm not going to do it. Why do individuals all act like their boss is Darth Vader.
