Let me tell you, those emails were far more terrifying.

Something something similar shit in history with certain overly-compared-to villain... The thing that surprises me is how fast its happening. I thought this kind of slip into totalitarian dictatorship would be gradual.

It feels like it's a sinkhole: it looks fine on the surface but the bedrock has been eroding for years. Erosion of our education system, political institutions, civil liberties, social safety net, the deranging of our media environment, the whiplash caused by rapid social and technological change (both good things imo but they were never going to go down easy), the unsustainable levels of inequality, and our continuing 9/11 PTSD have really done a fucking number on us. I think it just looked less precarious than it actually was. I don't think we were necessarily sliding towards some authoritarian hell, just making it more easily digestible to enough people.

I've been screaming into a pillow for a few minutes now. At this rate all of my hair is going to fall out by next week, and I'm going to be rolling around in my own waste in three.

On top of: gag orders for the EPA that prevent them talking to the public; Confirming Keystone XL, going all in on fossil fuels and scrapping subsidies for renewable energy; "speeding up" environmental checks to allow protected land to be mined and drilled from now on; and Republicans finally admitting climate change is real and man made, but they don't really give a shit, they just want to get rich for a few more years at the expense of the entire planet.

Madonna needs to rethink her White House plans, or you guys need another civil war. This is beyond fucked up, and he's going to get away with all of it.

What the fuck America

Thank you for making Europe great again, a scientific valhalla in eight years time.

I for up till now thought that Trump and the houses can't stop the change towards green energy, because they really got cheap and are not affected by fossil prices. The US started to decrease its CO2 emission even under the second Bush period.
But I guess you the US really wants to burn us to death.

Hey America, you want to burn yourself to the ground, go ahead. But you're fucking up this planet for the rest of us. The amount of crazy ass threads that pop up every day now about Trump is scary. So much for those that thought he would be harmless once in office. Come on, America, time to take to the streets and dethrone this fucker.

Individual members will leak stuff anonymously, outside of work. Of course, we won't know whether it's real EPA employees doing it, or fake news.

And that's supposed to make us feel better? It's okay because government officials with try to deny their tyrant overlord and sneak us important information against his will?

Come on, America, time to take to the streets and dethrone this fucker.

Not even kidding. This has to be done if this is the line Trump and his party is taking. He is silencing government officials, deleting public information, removing essential healthcare for women and the poor, and changing environmental protection laws to mine and frack your historically protected lands. YOU HAVE A TYRANT.

I guess America will lag behind when the rest of the world is making steps to reduce pollution and find ways to use cleaner energy. :/

Trump, you orange senile old fuck!!

Nothing will make us feel better. This is a waking nightmare.

I was born in a country where our people dethroned and executed our dictator. My family then moved to the States, where, decades later, its people elected one freely.

There's no doubt that the USA has been in a golden age for the past 50-60 years; I'm starting to wonder if Trump's about to bring an end to that. Sure seems like it.

Nah, if you recognized half the names that stuck themselves to him long before inauguration day, it was obvious where this was going. Now we're one of... those countries.
As an American, it disgusts me

As someone who loves reading and learning about history, it's terrifying.

Every new announcement and report, I can only just think "How?" (Well, first "what the fuck"). To go from the country's roots, from those words emblazoned on the Statue of Liberty, from the melting pot, to...this

You know what, I take back my edit from a previous thread. Fuck off America, you wannabe-developing-country. Your fucking all of us with these moves. Seriously, this is so aggravating to read. Your government is fucking with the scientific community in an attempt to undermine the Climate Change argument and fuck all of us.

Canada is too afraid of standing up for "allies" to be any kind of leader soon.

Canada is a dwarf compared to the American economic juggernaut. It is fundamentally tied to American trade, and until the economy can be sufficiently diversified, it would be a death knell on the Canadian economy if it started trade disputes with the US.

Canada can however take charge on refugees, climate change, innovation and science. I really hope Trudeau implements an accelerated process for people in STEM fields to come to Canada. The timing is perfect to start brain draining from the US.

So the Republicans can do all of this in less than a week, but Obama and the Democrats needed years to even talk about the environment?

Makes somehow both sides look really bad. And it's not like that Obama ever, not even during his first years was a global champion on this topic.

You don't need to be a global champion of anything. You just need the common sense to listen to the scientists who spend their entire lives studying these things, and adapt policies to suit. That's exactly what Obama did, when Congress allowed him (which was often heavily Republican). Trump won't have those issues thanks to the way America has been voting lately. Which means he can be his usual egotistical idiotic self and ignore expert advice in favour of believing he knows everything, and is capable of producing his own facts and evidence from his anus, and no, he won't ever share that evidence with you - so you'll just have to assume that when he says he has evidence for his opinions, he genuinely does.

Which is easier to do? Writing something meaningful in a memo pad, or tearing the paper out and flushing it down a toilet?

At the beginning he had congress and still did nothing about the environment. Look what the German left and the Green party did while they were in power compared to Obama and it is even sadder.

Trump is terrible, but pretty much nobody expected Hillary to do something on her own. Like Obama she would let herself drag along with California and somehow sold it as their idea.

Thanks america. You screwed over our upcoming generation. I hope by then they'll find a solution to the mess we did.

The solution will have to come from alliances between China, India and Europe.

America should be disgusted with itself but in truth the people who voted for Trump have no shame. I feel sorry for the ones who voted Hillary. Everyone who didn't bears responsibility for the coming disasters.

Come on, that's just not remotely true. Even in 2009 he committed $90 billion to green energy subsidies, signed a bill that protected over a million acres of wilderness, and in 2010 he launched the Great Outdoors initiative which was 100% focused on conservation and environmental recreation.

Also of note: He used the Antiquities Act more than any president in history, and mainly to protect the environment. He is arguably the best president America has ever had where the environment is concerned.

When Trump won our stupid election, I bawled my eyes out. In the weeks that followed, things seemed "the same" enough that I wasn't sure why I had done it. Now I know. We get reminded day after day. I feel worse about the world than I ever have in my life. This sucks.

Trump axing the arts and sciences (including history) is textbook keeping the base dumb so they continue to vote Republican in the future.

And they also know that, if they want those programs back, Dems would have to raise taxes which gets an instant "No" vote from every American.

GOP on point with ruthless, disgusting politics, and there's really nothing to stop their ground game with Fox News et al.
