Revisiting the PS4 presentation - Mark Cerny

I'm almost tempted to record Cerny's speech and put that on loop in my car and listen to it all day at the office. His demeanor and voice is so reassuring, almost hearing a mom tell to her son, "Don't worry, everything is going to be okay." After Microsoft's Xbox One presser, I think we all could use someone saying that.

ASMR? When I first heard him talk I thought he'd be perfect for a ASMR video.

Who knows about Harmonix? Sony probably approached them as well. Microsoft approached them for Dance Central, so maybe Harmonix could help them with their SingStar IP or a new dance game altogether in collaboration with Harmonix.

I want this:

What if the developer commentary video showcased during the presentation indicates the developers that are working on exclusive PS4 games? Besides of course first party developers but also independent developers such as Ready At Dawn.

Ready At Dawn is supposedly working on a new IP for the PS4 with Sony since there were hirings that say next-generation "console" as a singular instead of plural. Maybe it is The Order: 1886? Who knows.

Tim Schafer said that Sony approached them but that he couldn't say too much during an interview. Now, of course, Double Fine is an independent developer, so it is possible that maybe Double Fine could be working on an exclusive game for PS4 with Sony publishing just as Microsoft have published their games before.

David Cage is also on there and of course we all know that Quantic Dream are working on a new IP for PS4.

Randy Pitchford is also on there but I doubt anything will come from Gearbox besides multiplatform releases. But who knows.

Heavenly Sword 2 in the works? Maybe Sony got back together with Ninja Theory to co-create with Sony Cambridge on Heavenly Sword 2 for PS4.

We know Stig's team (God of War 3) is working on a new IP for PS4. We also don't know if this is The Order: 1886.

We also know that Naughty Dog has 2 teams and the Uncharted 3 team is working on a game for PS4. We don't know if it is a new IP or Uncharted 4, but recall that the Edge article that leaked the PS4 specs said that Uncharted 4 was being worked on. No confirmation it is from Naughty Dog because it is possible Sony Bend could take over with Naughty Dog working on a new IP. Shuhei Yoshida said that every Sony studio was working on the PS4.

Gran Turismo 6 is in Yamauchi's mind for PS4, backed by the claims from amar for a release in summer/late 2014. Maybe they will change it to Gran Turismo 7 instead.

In a recent interview with Dylan Cuthbert, he said that Q-Games is going back to PSN. Probably the PixelJunk series will come to the PS4 with Sony publishing of course. They have been pretty quiet as of late too.

Seems I am over-analyzing though. Hyped for E3 is all!

Well Cerny has a Japanese wife, so he is of course fluent in Japanese now as well.

Yep, there are plenty of bodies outside of the main studios Sony have. As I said several times, games will not be an issue for PS4.

Listening to the "method" right now. Some awesome stuff.

Mark Cerny said:
If you've successfully kicked these bad habits: planning, scheduling, saving money, efficient asset management - you'll be fine.

Rewatching parts of it again and it really feels like Sony's reveal and the PS4 philosophy was custom tailored to my beliefs and values for the industry. I love gaming and have a huge love for developers, not corporations, and it seems like the people in charge of the PS4 are the same way. I don't care if it's not the best way to make money, it makes sense and resonates with me and makes me want to support it.

I couldn't agree more. But in the end it will be the best way to make money, as the gamers go to the Ps4, the people who actually buy lots of games. Everyone wins in the end.

I'm sharing the same thought. Well said.

The thought behind that was that journalists were busy live-blogging or whatever, but Adam Sessler essentially said on Twitter that the applause was coming from behind the stage from Microsoft employees.

journalists are too busy getting their job done. I'm sure the claps were from the xbox team working on the features.

Fuck, that's embarrassing as hell...

It felt like I was having a conversation with Cerny about the video game system PS4, with Microsoft it felt like a salesman was standing in my doorway yelling nonsensical buzzwords about TV.
This is a pretty good way to put it actually.

There was definitely more passion coming from Sony. But both presentations were really bad in presenting a product that consumers will want to buy. Of my friends that watched both conferences, none of us want either console at this point. We are all severely disappointed. Maybe e3 will turn things around.

Cerny was genuine throughout his entire portion of the presentation. Hell, most of the presenters showed some genuine enthusiasm showing off what they've been working on, even if what they showed wasn't quite yet a fully realized game or only a tech demo. But Cerny, you could see it in his face that he was 1000% thrilled to present the system and his game.

On top of that, delivering technical details without watering them down with an endless slew of buzzwords and clearly speaking about the vision for PS4 from its inception made it a pleasure to watch him on stage.

I really think he'll be presenting at the Sony event. Man, now I'm thinking of a tag-team of Cerny and Tretton switching off at the event with Kaz doing the honors of starting the show and showing off the new console.

cerny really knows how to speak to an audience. his facial expression and body expression are always fiting his text. plus, his rhetorical skills are very good. he just knows what to say.

I don't know if this is thread worthy so I guess I'll just post it here

PS4: Mark Cerny to discuss console’s creation at GameLab conference
PlayStation 4′s creation will be detailed by the console’s architect Mark Cerny at this year’s GameLab conference, taking place between June 26-28 in Barcelona.

GI.biz reports that Cerny will give the talk, which will deliver fresh insight into the PS4′s creation, and he will also be awarded the conference’s yearly ‘Industry Legend Award’ for his contribution to gaming.

You can see a full breakdown of GameLab speakers here, featuring such marquee names as Rayman creator Michel Ancel, and Counter-Strike creator Minh Le.

We’ll have more once the event rolls around.

Wouldn't be the first time they've worked together. Frequency, Amplitude, and EyeToy Antigrav are all Harmonix-developed Sony published games.
