of course
Yes it's the only way to have a massive power gap and neither will let that happen.
of course
What an embarrassing state of affairs console gaming has become if this is even remotely true. Basically Sony wont have released any true ps5 exclusive games by the time the ps5 pro launches. What’s the point in PSVR 2 if there will be a better box for it within a year of launching?
Edit: just woke up on the wrong side of the bed lol!
also, good luck in trying to supply demand for three different boxes and having a PlayStation that costs 600 to 800 dollars a unit. I just can’t see this making sense three years in this gen. These consoles were supposed to be the end of the shit cpu console and back to delivering something bleeding edge.
so devs will need to be developing for ps4, ps5 and ps5 pro within 3 years of the consoles launching. Sounds great.
just give me good games, I don’t care about resolution and bells and whistles including raytracing. Elden Ring is literally the best game in 5 years and it’s not a looker like horizon.
I said this before but both the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X didn't do big numbers and were short lived.
Despite what people want & would like
they wasn't a successful endeavour.
I don't see the them going this route again to please a few.
Exactly.
Makes more sense to sell a new generation with 100% compatibility like phone manufactures do.
No, not that often. Just every 5 to 7 years a new model that isn't marketed as pro or a new generation.Every 1, 2 or 3 year a new console? No thanks. Prefer to wait 5 or 6 year each gen. If they releae something would be 2023 or 2024 be a PS5 slim or Pro or both.
Puts it in the same time frame as the PS4 Pro doesn't it?People don't realize November 2023 will be possible release date
If the 7nm chips are all taken, it makes sense to get new contracts on smaller 5nm chips. They might be more expensive but clearly the consumer is willing to pay extra so why not have it as a more expensive alternative. It will only increase availability.
Exactly its a ways outPerhaps in development. But at least ~2 years away if that. People can't even get regular PS5s.
And that was too soon then. They went from having a third party advantage to losing it by rushing out the pro model and MS being able to one up it
That's a good point where some products are expected to have entry/mid-tier/high-end options. I think it comes back to the box you purchase needs to hold value for x amount of time. It is frustrating to purchase the only launch option just to have a better option shortly after.I think it's obvious that a PS5 pro in 2022 will be much too soon. 2023 would be exactly the 3 year window of the PS4 pro release. However, with the "slower" start to the generation due to supply issues and work from home realities, I wouldn't expect the mid-cycle refreshes until 2024 at the earliest this time around.
HOWEVER, I don't understand why everyone is acting like it would be such a crime for Sony (or Microsoft) to release a mid-cycle refresh at all given the lack of availability of the current PS5. Have we forgotten the world we live in today? It's called choice. If you want a premium product and are willing to pay for the extra boost then by all means.
Why is this OK at launch:

Same products, just slightly modified specs to appeal to a different consumer with different price tags. But it's so bad if we had different tiers of consoles. As far as I'm concerned, I would have liked to see a "Pro" console sold at a premium at launch to provide as an option. Microsoft and Sony considered it but opted not to because the gaming audience in general has been so unreceptive to such a distribution model and the higher price point that would come with the Pro model at launch. Essentially, the 3 to 4 year wait is mainly to get the parts smaller and cheaper to be able to sell it for the ~$500 price point that has been designated as the ceiling for a console price. I think it's time we gamers catch up with the rest of the world in this regard.
8k is on the box, and 8k tvs are getting more and more common. I can see a pro doing a checkerboard 8k and marketing it as an 8k console.PS4 Pro and One X boosted res a lot. Plus either solidified 30 fps, boosted it to 60 fps, and sometimes added two modes to choose.
With current systems you got games striving for 4k, 60 fps and RT is the big variable that can tank res/frames down a lot.
It's not like games will try for 8k. And I dont think they'd use a power boost to just double frames to 120 either. So really a mid gen refresh would probably strive for 4k/60/full RT. Is this enough to get people to buy a mid gen refresh? Who knows. Not for me as I already got an X. When I got a One X, the boost over OG was big.
But for anyone who is just getting into consoles, they might bite, pay the extra $100 or so and get the better system.
Fucking hilarious considering I have YET to see a retail PS5 with my own eyes. How are they gonna release a PS5 Pro during a chip shortage especially when they can't even keep the base PS5 in stock?
I don't see them anywhere.8k tvs are getting more and more common.
Yes way, 2024 if not 2023.The chip shortage is the biggest deterrent against mid-gen revisions in the near future.
I expect this gen to last longer than the average generation, so there may be refreshes, but not within the next 2 years, no way. Most major chip manufacturers are completely booked, for Sony to have a new console ready in a year or two, they would need to have an ample supply of chips, which they're not able to get a hold on for the base PS5s as they are.
This makes no sense.120 fps is the last thing devs will focus on, no matter the power of the console.
Some games may have it while looking like last gen games tho.
The real question everyone should be asking is how big it is going to be - PS5 is quite big so should we expect ps5 pro to be even bigger? More power, more cooling etc. unless they will enable jet engine fan mode![]()
Going from 30 to 60 is easier that going from 60 to 120.Yes way, 2024 if not 2023.
This makes no sense.
Say there’s a next gen only game that has an optional 60fps mode on base ps5… why couldn’t the ps5 pro have an optional 120fps mode? It wouldn’t look like a last gen game if the other modes don’t.
This is of course assuming there’s no cpu bottleneck.
Go to best buy. My great aunt upgraded from her 4k to a 8k last year. She doesn't even have any 8k media. Bigger number.I don't see them anywhere.
What? It’s mathematically the same percentage difference.Going from 30 to 60 is easier that going from 60 to 120.
Cutting the frame time from 16.6 to 8 ms is no easy feat.
You just have to look at how many games have 120 stable fps: 0.
Even stable 60 fps with bells and whistles is kinda hard to achieve.
Because you can’t control yourself? Just stick with the ps5 launch / eventual slim model.Goddamn I'm starting to see the benefit of streaming more and more.
I am in that camp of buying a new phone pretty much every generation, always buy the latest PC parts though will probably stick with my 3090 and skip the 3090 ti and only one of my cars is over 3 years oldI think it's obvious that a PS5 pro in 2022 will be much too soon. 2023 would be exactly the 3 year window of the PS4 pro release. This is some of the dumbest fanboy drivel I've seen in a while.Because you can’t control yourself? Just stick with the ps5 launch / eventual slim model.
“waaah I hate optional hardware so make everything internet based, laggy, compressed and no ownership allowed.” Wtf?
Meanwhile I buy games for 20 to 50 bucks and some end up being worth hundreds and keep them for as long as I want. You’re being an complete idiot.I have bought and owned so many games over the years that I ended up giving away hundreds of them for pennies just cause I wanted to get rid of them.
Ownership means nothing to me. I play the game once and then I move on.
So who’s making you upgrade?. It muffles the point of consoles, not having to upgrade.
All streaming has compression artifacts and extra lag. Enjoy being an idiot.there has been massive strides taken, and I've had crisp lag free experiences
