DF: Forza Horizon 5 - PlayStation 5/PS5 Pro Tech Review - Undiminished Excellence

That's gotta be a different TOD right? Or is that with RTGI etc in the pic on the right?
Its gta5 ps4/xbox one grass gate all over again :D

A 6800xt has a memory bandwidth of 510 gb/s

512.0 GB/s and 128MB of L3 cache that consoles don't have any. And this helps a lot with cache hits and reducing memory accesses.
So the effective memory bandwidth of the 6800XT is much greater than the PS5 and the Pro.

and a ddr5 setup has a bandwidth of 64gb/s.

DDR bandwidth depends on speed, memory channels and Infinity Fabric. 64GB/s is a basic number, as DDR% can go well above the 100GB/s mark.

The PS5 Pro has 576 gb/s bandwidth and special optimizations like cache scrubbers and a dedicated io decompressor/unit etc.

That is for the SSD to send data to the memory.
Not to send data back and forth to the CPU and GPU.

And cache scrubbers are a common thing on modern CPUs and GPUs. Be it on PC or consoles.

At the end of the day, the bandwidth available between a 6800xt based PC and the pro would be comparable.

It's not even close, mostly because of the 128MB of L3 cache.
Just look at how many cache hits, those 128MB get.

I think those upcoming in may(dunno if announcement or launch, leaks arent too solid as of yet) rx 9060xt cards could have somehow closest performance with the pr0, unlike rx 6800, their rt and ai upscaling capabilities will definitely rival ps5pr0, not just pure raster throuthput.
Specs wise 9060xt, even tho it will have 8 and 16gigs models, is exactly 9070xt cut in half(cores, memory bus and bandwith) but has bit higher clocks so very close to performance of the pr0, both raster, rt and ai upscaling too

Those 9060XTs might have a slight advantage.
The 9070s have 64Mb of L3 cache. The 9060s might have just 32MB.
RDNA4 also brought big improvements to delta color compression.

A great port overall for the ps5 but the pro port could have done a lot more. I think this is going to be the trend going forward Microsoft studio games will be good ports to the base ps5 featuring relative parity but pro ports will not be pushed to have a significant upgrade to display a significant disparity from the xbox console, which is understandable, I guess.

That being said a brilliant game and being able to play this baby on the ps5 will be a treat ps5 pro underutilized or not.

Sony literally announced the PS5 Pro saying it would allow Quality mode visuals at Performance mode framerate.

Forza Horizon 5 pretty much delivers exactly this. It runs the Series X/PS5 30fps mode at 60fps. And still you complain?

If this is running Series X quality mode settings at 60 fps then that is a huge win for Pro!

FYI on SX the Quality mode looked a LOT better than performance but the 30 fps handling wasn't nearly as good. This is best of best worlds? That is great if true

Edit- nvm "not a settings match" that means Performance is NOT running true Quality mode settings ...

Also, wtf is this Quality mode? That's lame
u insufferable

Bro cant even read or listen. Smth

Forza Horizon peaked with 2. 3 was okay, 4 sucked and 5 is just plain boring. 5 Does look really nice though, but I found it boring

True if you've played all of them. If 5 is your first one it'll be fun.

I started with 4, then got 3 which is considerably better, and then 5 which added very little, if anything to the game.

I've brought it for ps5 as I don't like playing it on PC as my old 2080 can no longer adiquately service my super ultra wide monitor

You know that just because I didn't say it was a perfect port doesn't mean I think its terrible. So you don't need to throw a hissy fit...It's a great port on the base console, and they could have done more on the pro, but don't worry, you being a good little knight for pieces of plastic is very admirable stuff.

Ah thanks for reminding me I forgot the desktop rdna2 had infinity caches.

Played for a couple of hours last night in performance mode and I have to say that it's a stunning port, at least visually. The dual sense support isn't up there with GT7, but it isn't bad - there's a little bit of feedback with a gear change, but there doesn't seem to be much resistance when using accelerate or brake triggers.

Pop-in is waaaaay less noticeable than I remember on Series X in performance mode, for certain. And unless it's been improved since I played it on Xbox, the loading is quicker too.

All-in-all, it's as good as I could have hoped.

They changed the direction after 2, saying it's okay you're not winning races and focusing on allowing you to create your events using blueprints.

I'm not a fan of this and I consider 1 & 2 to be among the best, but I've still spent 100-200 hours with every Horizon game.

Also metacritic reviews with some perfect scores

I loved FH1 & 2, I'm the same as you, the amount of hours I spent on those 2 were amazing. I think the only reason I kept on buy 3, 4 and 5 is to see if they can recapture that same awesome experience, which none of them did. But FH 1 & 2 are GOAT!

I would have expected a gaming outlet with "gaming journalists" to be competent playing games. Whoever is playing looks like they've never played a game before let alone an arcade racing game

Despite 5 being one of my least favorites I ended up buying the Premium Edition despite owning it on Xbox and Steam lol.

I'll definitely get my moneys worth again.

4 was great, and 3 is the peak.

What didn't you like about those 2?

Well, you actually had to race and win races to afford new cars, so each car felt earned. Instead of just super cars being handed out left right and centre. You had actual progression

Yeah that's one of my gripes with the new games as well.

I've pointed to this video multiple times but it sums up all my issues with current Horizon. Doesn't stop me from enjoying it by any means though.

Ffs, for anyone wondering why ms have a piss poor rep, this is why.

Fired up forza horizon 5 (admittedly it got to the title screen which is more than it did on PC at launch) linked my account, crashes my entire ps5 pro.

Stop releasing buggy shit!!
