Words can not express how good it feels to see Rage Racer back! :D

Think it was 6, but let's try and keep this thread from deteriorating into another RR DS vs PSP thread.

This is about Rage Racer lovin! :D

do all 8 need to have PSP RR to play WLAN? If yes, it won't happen very often. If yes, it's perfect for playing in train and bus.

Which one was Lakeside Gate in Rage Racer?

God, that game owned my soul.

Lakeside Gate was probably the best looking track in Rage Racer. You went over the bridge (which reflected everything), then through a wood and came out past some waterfalls.

In Rage Racers it's called Lakeside Parkway:

Union Hill District is the first track from Rage Racer with the really steep hills:

Notice the beginning of each track is the same, so it looks like it will be exactly like Rage Racer where you go into the tunnel and take different exits depending on which track it is :D

Is it 8 players with one UMD? If so, that would be awesome news. I'd hope they'd implement something similar in other games as well.

do you really think they're gonna stream this whole game to 8 PSPs? It's amazing they can even do it with the DS version.
I honestly had no clue whatsoever. As this is the only PSP game I can recall with a large multiplayer number. So shoot me if I delve into uncharted territory with a simple question. Jesus Christ.

-_- Perhaps it was a stupid question. But people seemed utterly astonished at the thought of 8 players. I didn't think that would be at all surprising with 8 games. You could get 16 players with 16 games, it can be easily done. So I had assumed they had accomplished some greater feat, mainly single UMD mode.

excuse my shameful naiveté, but does this game perchance feature touchscreen steering? surely you wouldn't all be excited about a game without that functionality!

its mostly the fact thay you believed you could stream all that data off 1 psp to 7 other machines. How much data do you think is contained in the audio/visual/code.. massive amounts. The fact you suggested it... is hilarious. I guess it could be done but you'd be waiting for at least an hour to get 1 game going.

:lol

I'm generally excited about the market-leading racers, regardless of platform. I'll play a handheld racer if it has more features, better graphics, and more refined gameplay than its competition. (GT4 console, Forza, or even the recently released Rallisport Challenge 2)

Is this the game I'm looking for? I mean, those graphics are certainly standard-setting for a handheld, but I desire more in a racing game.

Well Ridge Racers competition is other handheld racers. What handheld racers are offering you as much as this game? It's giving you courses, music ect from a variety of the greatest arcade racers ever made, plus new courses. The biggest multiplayer mode the series has offered ect.

You don't understand. I get all that. But most (if not all) of the PSP's adopters on this board are console gamers. They play console (or PC) games, not handheld games primarily. I am one such gamer. So refer to the previous question.

So are you saying that you wouldn't buy a handheld racer if there's a console racer in the same series? Or what would a handheld racer have to offer?

Oh no, series only guarantees the sort of gameplay experience that I'll get. But I consider the graphics to be a novelty that will wear off unless those graphics are actually as good as the current console racers. I want racers on any platform, so long as they're the best among platforms. The genre tends not to take many chances but is rich in standard features and graphics. So is RR PSP my best option?

Although I want this game and will get this game if I get a PSP, it sounds like everyone is going crazy over this game not because it is something new and incredable, but because it is a bunch of old stuff "rehashed" and thrown together.

To answer your question about what handheld racers are offereing this much, none if you are into Ridge Racer (and the fact that there are only like 4 or 5 games on the PSP), but I'm sure tha before next Christmas there will be hundreds on this system. For some reason the Playstation platform is always the home of WAY more recers than could ever possibly be needed!

Rage Racer! This could very well be the best RR game if they hold true to the classic formula. This is the only PSP game I give a shit about.

"The genre tends not to take many chances but is rich in standard features and graphics. So is RR PSP my best option?"

Depends on how much you like RR I guess. For me atleast, there's only 1 arcade racer I hold to a higher standard than RR and thats Sega Rally. From what i've read of 2005, it's not sounding as good as this. So if you're grouping handhelds and consoles together, this looks like its going to end up being the best arcade racer on either.

"but because it is a bunch of old stuff "rehashed" and thrown together. "

While i'm excited about the courses from previous games (mainly because they're some of the best designed courses in any racer), I wouldn't be as excited if that's all there was to it. The new courses helps push up my anticipation more. I think NAMCO knew they just couldn't throw together a bunch of old courses with a new coat of paint, they had to do new courses also.

I have never played Rage Racer :|

Only Ridge Racer, Rave Racer, R4, Ridge Racer 64, and Ridge Racer V.
Rage was very similar to Rave. But I'm not exact on the details. The main draw of Rage, and still unbeat even today, was its awesome RPG-mode.

I dissagree...Rage is more similar to R4 than to Rave...Rave Racer is the missing link between RR 1 and RRV.

Just my opinion.

I think this game has a lot of chances to achieve a 40/40 in Famitsu.

Indeed. YEESSSSS!!!

Only downer is the soundtrack choice. WTF NAMCO?!??! Only one Rage Racer choon?!?! Still with all those tracks, Wi-Fi 8 Players....I'll forgive them. :D

Actually, I'd expect it to be about 32MB, which is how much memory the PSP has. Any more than that and its a bit of a waste, don't you think?

32MB over wifi wouldn't take that long. 11mb/s peak, lets say you get 4mb/s. Thats 1 minute to fill another PSP's main memory. DS manual says that downloaded games can take up to 1 minute to transfer to other players machines

And one track would be stored in memory, like with RR on PS1, and RRV on PS2. So theoretically it could be done.
