got the golden sword and sorted out pretty much everything else in the camp, but I still can't get an audience with the don?
edit: oh, haha, I figured it out... turns out the guard I was supposed to talk to got glitched and was somehow wandering around on the cliffs behind the temple.
Magic is pretty weak in the game so I suggest a bow or melee build. Find a skill trainer and use buy the upgrades when you get them. A shield is a good purchase early on if you have yet to find one.
As you're fully aware, the server ran out of activation keys for Risen over the weekend. It is not because an Ogre broke into the offices of Valve and stole them but because of an unexpected "tsunami of orders" which nobody could anticipate in such a magnitude.
On the one hand we're very happy that you decided to buy the game since this shows us that Piranha Bytes and we did the right thing by investing a lot of time to get a fantastic game.
On the other hand it forces me to beg you for your patience until we finished the "quest for the missing keys". While our support is also around for you on weekends, feeding the server with activation keys is not a trivial task so we'll have to wait for the experts to arrive in the office on Monday. The keys will then be passed to Valve and every legitimate buyer should get his key to play the game as it worked before. After all we didn't have any issues before.
Please bear with us until we sortet out the issue and although I know that we caused a lot of distress and anger I'm pretty confident that that everyone of you will be able to enjoy the game shortly.
Stay tuned for further news in this thread.

The game was awesome, too bad I could never beat the last Boss but oh well,it was a great ride just the same...I still try him once in a while but after not playing for 2 months and having to jump right in at a final Boss, makes it even harder, especially since controls are my problem for the guy(playing on the 360,having stuff mapped to the awful 360 D-Pad never helps).

I recently applied the 4gb patch to the .exe and have noticed significant performance improvement. I didn't really expect it to work, but I've gone from 20-25 fps with max settings except for medium view distance and linear AF to 30-35fps with max settings and far view distance and 16x AF on my e8400/4850 all at 1080p. I am not running any forced AA though
I've got one major complaint about the game: the mouse sensitivity. There's absolutely no way to change it. The ini tweak does absolutely nothing, and even changing Windows sensitivity does nothing. Even more surprising, DPI switches on my mouse stop working while the game is open.
I was going to post this in the "western press ignores mid budget titles" thread but thought itd be better posted here. Maybe you guys can offer some tips or something because Im having a hard time with this game.
Im not sure I understand this talk about Risens polish. The world, characters, storyline so far, enemies, and overall feel is fantastic. However:
-Combat is iffy. The mechanics behind it work but there needs to be a solid targetting system and not some loose "wherever your mouse happens to be" system. Because of it, a light touch to the left or right on my mouse will have me targetting something out of range or an NPC who will then proceed to attack me after the monster dies because I accidentally hit him in my feeble attempt to protect him. Many saves were re-loaded because of this.
-Enemies also have the ability to break my guard or interrupt my combos at will but I cant seem to do the same to them. Maybe Im missing an ability that lets me do this, I dont know. Even if I can, Im not sure I have enough Learning points to unlock it.
If a fight feels too hard, I sit back with my guard up, circle the enemy, and watch his attack patterns. There have been times were I feel certain that Im safe to attack only to be interrupted after one swing and Im left guessing as to wtf Im doing wrong. Maybe I just suck, I dont know. Its irritating.
*Ch1 thru the beginning of Ch 2 spoilers*
I started the game hating the combat but I read comments urging others to stick with it and upgrade and learn and it gets better. I started to get the hang of things, got better armor and weapons and the the game worked well. I loved it.
This all carried over into the Harbour Town quests and storyline right up thru the Inquistor stuff.
Now here I am trying to go through a cave filled with skeletons and ghouls in order to progress to the east shore where I need to go. Only problem is, I cant kill them. I can outrun the skeletons but the ghouls never stop chasing me. I eventually ran into the druid that I was set off to meet and he tried helping me but I still died.
Its like theres an invisible difficulty line where everything before it is easy until I enter the cave...then I just get destroyed.

-When good NPCs are near, just be very, very, VERY careful not to hit them. If you are unsure if you can swing without hitting, don't. A good strategy may be to let the NPC get the monster's attention, then circle around the bad guy and hit the monster from behind.
-Combat. Can't you do a 'strong' attack, maybe by holding down the attack button? Maybe that will break their guard. I can't remember for sure. Mostly I just played defensively and methodically, shield up until I knew for sure I could get a hit. Kind of a battle of attrition. Getting the enemy up against a wall is a good idea, often times you can get more hits in because they can't back up.
-Maybe you need to level up. I don't remember ever really having to run past enemies, except for maybe a troll or two in the outside world I skirted around.
Hope that helps a little, I'm going off memory since I haven't played in a while.

I never tried a strong attack to be honest. I dont remember seeing a tip popup telling me about one but maybe I missed it.
The last time I checked an upgrade NPC, I only had enough points to buy one additional STR+1. I dont think that I gained enough levels between then and now to be able to unlock anything more but Ill check. I could be glossing over something stupid here thats getting me killed.
I used to back enemies into the wall but I sometimes have the issue where the enemy will literally walk vertically up the wall and I cant reach them so I have to back up until the walk back down. This happened a ton in the swamp when fighting those giant worms so I havent done it too much since.
Even with my complaints, I still find the game enjoyable. I appreciate the difficulty especially since I was half expecting something Oblivionish where you can pretty much kill anything you see at any time. This has a curve to it which is nice.
Yeah there are definately enemies that will hand you your ass if you're not ready for them. I would make a habit of killing all the smaller creatures you see out in the world for leveling up, if you haven't already. They don't come back generally so it's good XP.

Thats what Im going to do. Theres plenty of stuff that I didnt kill.
Truthfully, Im probably too spoiled now and thats where half of my frustration is coming from.
Enjoying the game so far, although I do think the combat is a little broken at times. It's especially a problem when you back people against the wall, they basically just stop and let you hit them. And I sometimes get hit at weird times, but I think that might be me not understanding the counter system.
I'm kind of stuck though. Chapter 1 character/location spoiler:
I can't find Taylor in the Monastery to talk for the final point in the investigation. He's not at his bookstand near the entrance, he was the one who escorted me to my room.
, I went into Hitman mode after I did all the things that lead to
entering the city
; I basically murdered everyone I could. Just followed them to a dark corner and straight-out murdered them. Something's not right with me.
Anyway, there's a hilarious loophole in the game: You can pull extremely strong enemies to the characters that are invincible, and let them pummel down the health, then go in for the final blow and get all the XP.
