"No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world." - Robin Williams 1951 - 2014

Yeah, this really sucks. Even more so for the circumstances surrounding it. Fuck, the world is a lot less special tonight. Ppl like him don't come around very often.

Depression is an ugly monster, even when you got everything, even when everything is right....somehow it's still not. It grabs ahold of you and refuses to let go, it's there whispering in your ear. It's there every moment when something goes wrong. It's there to whisper to you no matter what. It's a war to fight it. A never ending one.

Those who never have been through it can never truly imagine how it is.

And those who suffer through it usually do so in silence doing their best to live their life. I'm sure he did his best, he did great many things. So what happened during those last moments who can say. It must have been building for some time and even a funny man can cry.

And who is there for their tears in those most private of moments where so few see. What can rise up a man of laughter in those darkest moments.

We all have our demons. Some persist no matter what. No matter the joys and fights won. We all are human in the end.

Sleep well funny man, your battle is at an end and may you find peace in the next. There will never be another of your like on this world. We were greater for you in our life.

Just so heartbreaking. Probably one of the most talented and widely loved individuals I can think of. So sad he gave so much joy to others but it seems he had a hard time finding it in himself. My deepest condolences to Zelda and the rest of his family.

An absolute legend of my childhood, Aladdin is my favourite animated film but going to be tough to watch for a while.

His role in one hour photo was brilliantly haunting.

RIP Robin :(

His range is what makes him amazing. Stuff for kids, like Jumanji and Aladdin? Extreme energy adult comedy like his old stand up? That's normal comedian stuff... but to be able to put out stuff like Good Will Hunting after? He was a really gifted actor.

The only comedian who I could compare him to would be Jim Carrey. And man will I be devastated when he finally passes away.

If Jim Carrey passes away...I don't know if I wanna live in this world :(

I just watched one of his recent films, "The Angriest Man in Brooklyn" where he plays a man whose loss and anger drove his loved ones away and causes a doctor at the end of her rope (Mila Kunis) to diagnose him with a brain aneurism and less than a day to live. So he desperately tries to make his last hours count.

As he encounters barriers, he considers taking his own life... the main theme was forgiveness and family. :(

Depression is apparently a very common thing among comedians and "funny people". I've seen the association for as long as I've followed comedy. There are people who are very vocal about it.
My Grandfather used to be one of the funniest, most animated people I know. He's had depression all his life though, and made an attempt on his life a few years back. Killed me, and thus this news kills me all the more.

Probably the only guy who could get me to watch feel-good cheesy family comedies, such a heart-warming persona. He was the kind of person I would want by my side while I was dying. RIP

Sucks... Robin Williams, for people like me, is one of those actors that you never really knew how much they were integrated into your fabric of pop culture, until you hear they are gone. From Mork and Mindy to Dead Poet's Society. I remember watching his stand up on HBO, Good Morning Vietnam, Genie...he was everywhere, in so many facets.

RIP.

Damn, this one hits hard. I really liked the guy both in and out of film. Definitely a huge loss for the world. I hope his family can get through this OK.

I'm sure fame can fuck you up pretty damn well but a person in that situation should have the means to seek professional help, maybe Robin seeked help and it just wasn't enough :(

It isn't about the means. Michael Jackson certainly had the means to seek out the best professional help as he needed too. Sometimes people don't know how to deal with these things or think it is normal to feel these ways. They may not realize that their state of mind is actually coming from a biological problem. Sometimes people are scared to get help.

You are right though, Robbin may have got help but it wasn't enough. Sometimes when therapy or treatments don't work for people they give up instead of going on to another treatment. We will find out more about Robin sometime too. Glad he is in a better place though.

I was talking about Jumanji 1 hour ago and didn't even know about this. Everytime you think about one of his movies you have to remember how awesome he was and laugh with your friends. I hate to write about celebrity deaths but he was like an uncle for me.

I really didn't want this to be real. I always enjoyed watching his movies when I was a little kid. He was an amazing comedian and actor whom I'll miss deeply. May he rest in peace.

I had just come back to my laptop to read about this from a Twitch chat comment of all places with a CNBC link. Then I checked here and TMZ and still can't believe it.

I'm only reading now about his alcohol problems and how he went to rehab just a month ago. Had no clue whatsoever. The last I saw him in anything was when he was in an episode of Louie from Louis CK. He looked so happy there.

I still remember the first time I ever saw or heard of him, and that was when I was a kid watching Mork and Mindy on Nick at Nite. The nostagia is hitting me right now because the Mork and Mindy theme is playing in my head right now as if it was yesterday. Such a shame that it was suicide.
