Rock Band 4 announced for PS4 and Xbox One

Hardcore audience that have 100-1000s of DLC on 360 will they be forced to buy an XONE, if they converted to PS4 this generation, if there is no cross support, which I doubt they will?

I am curious

Arent wii u and xbone total hw numbers very close? Seems weird that they say "wii u numbers just aren't there", then go on to make an xbone version.

I don't know if I ever bought any DLC, at the most I think I imported RB1 songs into RB2 (or was it 2->3?).

Doubt if any of that is carried over.

My interest will solely be dependent on the soundtrack, which I thought was getting thin and they were stretching towards the end. They weren't in position to pay up for some artists back then, why would they be in any better position to now?

It's never a non-issue.

Do you understand how this series works? The colored gems will come down at the exact timing that YOUR INPUT will function to make it a 1:1 match once you have calibrated. This isn't a fighting game or a driving game or an FPS. These are colored gems that require precise timing and the calibration suite offers it.

What is it you think you won't be able to accomplish in Rock Band with a higher input lag when the game changes the timing of the gems and music to account for it? There is no "input lag" once the game is calibrated. The only thing that happens is when you do drum fills on the "I want to do my own drum fills" option set to on, your drum fill sounds will come out of the speakers slightly later, which has zero impact on the actual game.

If you read the FAQ, yeah. There is no cross-platform compatibility. You need an Xbox One if you have a DLC library on 360, and a PS4 if you have a DLC library on PS3.

This is one of the best announcements i've seen.

Don't know if it was brought up, but they are also releasing Frank Turner's "I Still Believe" as free DLC today for Rock Band 3

Uh, Rock Band has always had a full calibration suite so that the game COMPLETELY accounts for any of your video and audio lag. So it's a complete non-issue.

It's more like a work-around. You can't calibrate lag to fix vocal lag or the "free drum solos". In rock band 3 there was an option to turn the free drum solos off.

It was ... an acceptable solution but it was far from being a "non-issue".

In the last 30 seconds I just went from "probably still not getting an Xbox One for years, at least" to "fuck, now I need an Xbox One."

Damn you, Harmonix!

I'm currently researching the games that I would have access to if I got an Xbox One for this, and hoo boy... I guess Banjo is rumored?

Spot-on. Any music game with a decent calibration suite shouldn't be affected by HDMI 1.0 vs. 2.0. Especially if you're running to an external audio source anyways, like a surround set.

I thought the drum fill sounds sounded like crap anyway, so as soon as the option was offered to no longer do them and to do them Beatles style, I switched. Didn't realize that vocals were not calibrated with the calibration suite. Wonder why they don't touch that?

I can't remember the last time I was this happy over a game announcement!!!

I'm a bit bummed they're sticking with the same guitar design though, I could never get used to the overly large and awkward buttons on the RB guitar - I always had to use the GH3 version.

May have to try and buy a GH3 guitar as I've not got any of my old instruments.

Setting up my e-drum set for RB3 took like two days until it felt absolutely lag free, but God was it glorious once it worked. I don't even want to use whatever drums come with the game, just give me a MIDI adapter for PS4 please :-(

Also yeah, the codes on the backs of the Lego, RB2 and 3 manuals say one time use of course. So I guess that rules out used games.

I'd be more excited if I had any space for those hulking plastic instruments that had to be relegated to the basement in my parent's home three years ago.

A college dorm simply isn't very compatible with a drum set. Who knew?

Man this means I kinda have to get an Xbox One if I want to play with all my old DLC.

Not sure how I feel about that.

I'm not mad about it, I understand the reasons but... well, if that's the way it is then that's the way it is.

The Xbox One will be my Killer Instinct and Rock Band box, plus the multimedia, TV and snap stuff is pretty neat.
I have a massive RB DLC collection and a ton of instruments.
Totally worth it for me.

There's human error in calibrating. I always noticed input lag in the older games, but was able to compensate for it and still play, but why should I be OK with having to do that? This game should be released on as many viable platforms as possible.

Add me to that list, and I'm disappointed that it won't work in RB4.

FYI, the keyboard came in a bundle with Rock band 3. I'm sure they sold more than a few.

Retention is the bigger issue, and I think that keyboard leaderboards almost always trailed far, far behind the other instruments.

It would be pretty cool if they integrated tablet/phone use to be like the light technician at a concert. Your friends can jam out and you can take a break from the instruments to control the lighting and effects going on onstage.

Yeah, close after Wii U has been out two years and Xbox One out only a year. Not hard to see why they'd favor the console that's actually selling.

I was never able to 100% accurately calibrate RB3 to my LCD. Now, does this mean I should buy an LED? That may be what I'm trying to tell the old lady. I dunno if she'll bite.

You know, I think I'm probably ready to get back into the old plastic instruments again. Been a sufficient amount of time, so I think this will do well.

Yeah, I turned the free solo off as soon as I could, they were jarring.

Vocals had delay from Mic -> Game -> Sound system. They synced up with the game prompts just fine but you would sing and hear your amplified voice with a noticeable delay.

This didn't stop us from using it as our go-to karaoke machine. I really have no complaints, I loved the series.

Fuck yeah! I have been jonsing to play Rock Band for a few years now but I sold off by Drum Rocker Ion kit when I had to move into a smaller apartment years back. Stupidest move I ever made. I sold it for way too cheap on craigslist... :( My most egrigious Rock Band sin was throwing out my Beatles Gretsch guitar because it would no longer communicate with the dongle. So stupid!! That was the best made RB guitar by a long shot..

Oh well, the past is the past, time to start fresh and import in my fuck ton of PS3 DLC! Can't wait. What are these "pro drums" they speak of? I never played RB3.

Rock band guitars (after rock band 2) had a light sensor and a mic for auto-calibration. It worked quite well.

Local multiplayer games and family friendly games sell better on one of those than the other, however.

Probably because I can download all the DLC songs for Rocksmith PC and put them in for free and Harmonix wants to make money for DLC? Piracy is a huge deal for why some DLC-centric games that need to recoup costs through song sales won't touch PC.

I let their PR guy know my wishes, so I'm done bitching. It's great this game's coming back. Hopefully a new Guitar Hero follows suit. I'll buy them all.

Didn't know that. That's pretty cool.

Sure, all PC gamers are pirates.

I'm interested, but because of the upcoming release of Amplitude, I probably won't get this Day 1 since that will scratch my music/rhythm itch without the additional plastic instruments.

So question, when they say disc imports, that means te entirety of the on-disc song library for each previous game, right? I never owned Rock Band (since all my friends did) but if I bought the discs for 1, 2, and 3, would I be able to later import their libraries to Rock Band 4? How would that work? Or does it mean DLC that was already on-disc and you had to unlock with a key? I'm assuming the latter because the former would be insane.

I bought my 360 for Rock Band.
I'll be buying an XB1 for Rock Band 4.

Good times.

For RB1, you bought a key from the marketplace and it exported the content from the disc. For RB2 and other disc exports (Lego, track packs, etc), each disc came with a unique code, and you fed that into the console's marketplace to get a download code for the songs that did export. Some had fees attached, as well.

I was just thinking about trashing my instruments the other day but they are compatible? Hell yeah keeping them I guess.

What happened to their PR guy who was tight with Giant Bomb? His name escapes me right now

I'm glad I didn't go nuts with the RB DLC last gen. I think I spend around 40 dollars or so total.

Between this and Amplitude HMX is back baby.

You could do the same for Rocksmith on PS3/360 , and for that matter, you could do the same with all Rock Band DLC. It may not be true of current-gen, but that'll inevitably change.
