I just needed to jump in to say this is a fantastic sequel. I'm a little bummed there is no straightforward way to unlock songs, but I may end up liking 'Challenge mode' better in the end anyway.

But yea, I also like that your character is always in a band, so I see 'Snatch Anigava drumming for the Shitmunk Skullcrushers'. It's adorable. Also, the fact that they named all the random people will make my friend who has a crush on the large breasted girl in blue happy.

it's kinda tough for a solo player to get in the leaderboards since its counting the entire band's points.

Yeah, for the score ones, they're really meant for a good full band. The star based ones are more for any number of people.

The challenges have been fun so far, tho I sorta dislike having to play the DLC in the RB2 tour progression. It's nice to have more songs for when people are around and can pick... but there's a certain disappointment in playing a shiny new game for shiny new songs, and getting a song you've played 50 times already in a gig rotation.

challenge mode is your friend! and can be played with others!

Absolutely. Solo Player vs Bands in the BOTB is kind of silly. I did the Opening Day Challenge and got around 190k or so and its pointless.

I've played it on Hard and the drum pattern is fun IMHO - the kick drum pattern is not difficult, but you kinda move from the snare across the toms to the crash a lot, which is great

Yeah. That's the only way I get to go as well. Luckily, I'm on the GDC Committee, so I have a say in who goes and who doesn't. It's not really a problem to vote myself in.

nothing for that that I've seen. it's cool that your character moves between instruments (i.e. you don't have to create a new guy to switch from guitar to drum to singing, you can always use your same guy). it should have always been like that.

I've been playing it in 3 hour bursts all day. Doing both expert guitar and drums, my arms are shot

Then I went into quickplay and I had everything.

So you have to be online to be able to play already installed DLC? Because I'm on campus right now, and internet connections to consoles are blocked.

If you go through the "Marathon"'s in Tour Challenge, you should unlock all of the songs fairly quickly.

you can.. and while initially i missed it, i'm starting not to care now, because when you look through the setlist it shows all your scores for the instrument you're using.. I just wish It had the stars as well, at least faded behind the score or something. I'll get to touring eventually, after I unlock everything

What songs can't you unlock through challenges? I've been unlocking them tier by tier as I climb up the ladder. I've been playing it essentially like I would a linear solo tour.

I am a bit miffed that the green pad during freestyle drums has turned into a tom instead of a crash cymbal (except for the last hit to activate Overdrive, of course). It's a small nitpick in an otherwise great game. The freestyle kick and snare sound better than in RB1, IMO.

Also, "Feel the Pain" by Dinosaur Jr. is so far the best song from a band I've never heard of.

I like that song as well. Also I like the fact that at the end of the song you can do freestyle as well.

That shouldn't be the case unless you are playing on a different xbox. Although Rockband 2 might need to do a one time validation /shrug

I'm slowly unlocking everything through world tour instead of challenges because 1) I never really got to play world tour before because I have rhythmless friends, and 2) the RB1 and DLC songs that pop up almost feel new because I get to play them for the first time with breakneck speed on.

How are they blocking your console connection? If it's by MAC address, just set the MAC of the Xbox to your PCs MAC. Unless you're telling me they block all ports aside from standard web ports.
