The control unit "brain" seems fine. The d-pad works great. We mounted it under the yellow/blue pads, as recommended. It's totally protected down there, but you have to operate it "blind" for the most part. Not a problem when playing "normally", but it can be a little annoying when you're doing stuff like adjusting the speed in training mode, or dressing up your character... I think once we get used to things, and stop missing the pads, we'll remount the brain up above the pads.
Don't....just don't. Do not do this.

By the time you feel you're 'ready' to mount the brain in a more vulnerable position, you'll be comfortable using the controls without seeing them. Mount it up high, and it WILL get hit. That's not a possibility, it's a definite. Either you'll hit it after a long play session when your strikes start getting sloppy, or one of your friends will hit it because he doesn't have as much experience with it.

If you HAVE to mount it in a visible location, set it wide outside (to the left of the red or the right of the green).

Also, Cpt. Underpants claimed that when you switch to lefty mode, the green cymbal will now trigger red. Might want to check that (I'm too lazy to go downstairs and check myself).

Yeah, it is. And its incredible what some people are already doing with it. Check this guy out. The song suck, but holy fuck what does he do at 1:30?? The mindblowing part is that it's done with one pedal.

I want to spend that much time messing around with it, but my arm has been dead since RB2 launch day due to playing so much. I was able to get the achievement for completing half the fills at 180bpm though.

RB2 was pretty fun. Last week I had friends over and we played Band World Tour for like 5 or 6 hours.
What do you suggest I do to maximize fun when playing by myself? WT Challenges? Or should I save those for when friends are over?

blindz0r has a video he put up recently showing how he uses two feet on one pedal. Dude is sick on drums.

holy crap that's awesome.

makes me wanna do more drum trainer and freestyle more. I stopped when I first tried freestyle because it felt laggy to me, didn't feel like it was making sounds when I was hitting, maybe it's just because the sound was from the TV and not the set itself. I'll try it again later.

Great, can you kill it for me then? I'm having second thoughts.

What if, instead of killing the dog, you let the (large, underfed, largely abused dog owned by some redneck fuckbag who wants to have a vicious dog so he can ignore it) dog have it's way with you making you it's literal bitch? At the very least it might mean you'd have little problem killing it later.

Does anyone here know what resnet is? If so how would you connect a console through it? As that's the service that my campus uses.

...pass.

Substituting your own creations in the band is so awesome. It's nice having a consistent group of virtual players.

PS. Pinball Wizard is an annoying song to play on Guitar. :\

I'm pretty sure resnet is a generic term for college resident networks.

Man, I thought I knew you.

Would it be possible to hook your xbox up to your PC through a second nic to get internet through the PC? I don't know what the limitations of resnet are.

*The idea is to use your PC as your gateway. Resnet should see the traffic as if it were your PC requesting it.

I'm not positive, but you might be able to use a Y splitter to feed both the red drum and yellow cymbal into the red input.
You mean the green cymbal? (In lefty mode, yellow is ride cymbal, and blue is the hat. Crazy bizarro world, huh?)

Unlikely to work. For one, the red-pad-input is likely only set up to receive that signals that come from an ION pad. Cymbal output might not be correctly interpreted. Also, the hardware/game wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the pad and the cymbal. During fills it wouldn't know whether to play a tom sound or a crash sound. (Not a deal breaker, but not ideal.)

I guess you might be able to Y two red pads together though. Put one up where a cymbal might be, and put the other down with the other "toms". That might not be too bad. Still, a software mod would be cheaper. (For us!)

Javaman said:
What does lefty mode do with the green cymbal, keep it "attached to the green drum or change it to a blue? Does the blue drum act as hi-hat in lefty mode?
Umm... Green cymbal. Lemme think. Gosh, I don't know! Green is the snare channel while in lefty mode. So, putting a cymbal on that channel is sort of a weird undefined thing to do. I kinda assumed a green cymbal would just be "another snare". Which is stoopid. But, do you suppose the (red) crash would magically be triggered? Could it be? Could the RB2 game be smart enough to make the green cymbal act "red" in lefty mode? (While still letting the red pad do it's normal thing.)

I have no idea. Good idea though. Thanks. I will check it out.

And no, I didn't actually read the manual. Why do you ask? :D

Yeah, blue is the hat in lefty mode. (Except when it's a high tom.)

University of Maryland uses resnet. The easiest way I found to set up your Xbox with it is to plug in your computer via ethernet and follow the instructions until it allows you to register a device via MAC address. You'll find this under "Additional Settings" on your Xbox Manual Settings page when setting up your connection. Once you enter your MAC, it will spit out an IP, Subnet, Gateway, and DNS server(s) which you need to enter manually.

Agreed. We barely had any bandwidth available. Eventually they finally announced that we'd be getting more. Actually they didn't listen to us in the least, the price just went down. The people in charge of our system were terrible.

Was you internet speed also based on how many people were using the internet within the dorm at the time? Mine was... if alot of students were using resnet within my dorm my internet would be slower. of course my internet was free (not really but it was included in my student fees.)

The Alman brothers song is a mix of awesome and wtf. The main riff is very annoying to keep any sort of combo, but the mulltitude of solos are fun.

Yes, but sadly, no.
Would you happen to know how to adjust the MTU of the campus net, just for my dorm or something? I'm not really a networking type of guy. I tried using setting up a router in my room but that didn't really work.

My 360 fails on the MTU test because it isn't sufficient.

What if I let my neighbor's pit bull hump my leg to completion? I am holding out on actual penetration for Grandaddy's Sophtware Slump or perhaps some early Built To Spill.

Has anyone had a problem with the video lag auto-calibration on the new strat. Mine runs through the whole process, and then, the game returns that it did not get any readings. I'm not blocking the IR sensor (or whatever it is using) on the front of the guitar. Dammit, I think I'm going to have RMA it.

My suggestion is to make sure the ENTIRE room is dark. I did mine at night so it was really easy. Also you may want to try lowering your brightness on your TV for the moment just to make sure the standard brightness on your set isn't setting off the sensor.

My settings before the calibration (as manually done using my 360 controller) were 2 ms Audio and 57 ms Video.

When I first calibrated my audio came up at 40 ms thus thinking something was really wrong I did it again and it got 39 ms. My video then went to 52 after that. Everything was perfect, so I was really suprised with how far my manual calibration was off.

Going now to do the real test on audio sync....using the mic and turning my voice to full blast. if I hear echo the audio sync failed. Will report back.

EDIT: Also got my free stride points. Is Live Forever as good on guitar as everybody makes it out to be?

EDIT 2 : Just tried vocals, spot on. No echo whatsoever. 100%'d Snow (Hey Oh) on expert also lol

IIRC it was. I lived in an all-male dorm too (I got screwed freshman year, but when my roommate left without checking out properly at the semester I got a single room and was grandfathered into being given a single room every following year so long as I never left that dorm...) and I believe we had the majority of pirate servers on our subnet. From what I recall of the stats we had the worst throughput of any building on campus. It was just always maxing out except for maybe an hour or so around 4 AM when people up late started going to bed (but not me, of course) and before the people waking up ludicrously early were getting up. Still bad from people downloading all night long, but there was slightly less traffic. Otherwise I almost always had rates well below 100 bps.

Oh, and we paid for Internet. It was initially a one-time fee for as long as you were enrolled, but the year I moved out of the dorms (they tried to force me to get a roommate and if I wanted to keep my suite I'd need to pick a roommate and couldn't get a random one and I didn't know anyone else on campus who I could ask... so I got a place with my girlfriend) they changed to an aggressive strategy where you had to register your system in person (which I believe meant dragging it across campus to them... no need to make it easy for the students) and they started charging you monthly I think although maybe it was only per semester. I would have been grandfathered in, but it was still a dick move.

From what I heard of the people in charge of our network administration (I was in the local Linux User Group which had some people working with them) they were assholes and the administrator in charge of the whole system was pretty clueless and underbudgeted.

This is my current problem as well. It always fails the MTU test, and i don't know that the fuck an MTU is.

For that you can have "Greenlander" as DLC as part of a $20 Limp Bizkit "best-of" pack that is surprisingly (and incorrectly) not just a compilation of the gaps between tracks. It cannot be purchased separately and due to the error that even included it you can only play it after playing through the other 12 tracks in album mode.

Out of the songs i played, shooting star so far is the most fun chart. Harmonix really loves those long sequences of single notes and chords back and forth don't they, damn... i rather play 3 note chords.

Ask google for "MTU 360" and you shall receive:

You experience this behavior if your router or the gateway is incompatible with Xbox LIVE, or if your router or the gateway has an incorrect MTU setting.

...

If you have multiple consoles that are connected by using the same connection, you may cause a failed MTU test. A failed MTU test may also be caused by sharing the connection with your computer.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908882

Google around until you find out 1)how to solve it, 2)that you're fucked, or 3)you can't figure it out and give up.

This is how almost all computer problems are solved. We used to use Usenet though.

So are there any GAF bands that are looking for drummers?

ECU uses Reznet as well and where exactly can I find the bolded part?

If it's failing due to MTU, I think you're fucked, as that is a setting at the network infrastructure level.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maximum_transmission_unit

Basically the 360 is trying to send larger packets than your network allows, so you won't be able to connect to Live.

You can try contacting a network administrator to see what can be done but they're usually not very...friendly to that sort of stuff.

EDIT: Apparently it was solved, never mind the above. Hooray!

I'm not a band but i'm always willing to play co-op (expert guitar/bass).

Yeah I am never beating Visions on expert guitar.....ever

I even beat Painkiller and Panic Attack, but on Visions I can't even come close.

Damnit!

Alright, my copy of RB2 turned up yesterday so now I need some of you guys on my friends list so I have someone to beat in Battle of the Bands. My gamertag is saunderez and I predominately play guitar and vocals.

"Resnet" is a very common generic term for a residential network. The network policies and procedures at one university is unlikely to be the same at another.

If you're looking to get your consoles online from within a dorm, seriously, talk to your campus IT staff. Undoubtedly, some of the helpdesk guys are gamers, and you can probably find the help you need.

When I turn the sound off, I do way better in Visions. (I can feel myself getting dumber when I listen to that song) I think I may pass it... eventually. Panic Attack and Chop Suey are the two songs I'm convinced I'll never pass.

really? I find visions easier than some of the Painkiller / Panic attack parts. it's just a lot of alt strumming and going up and down.

I passed Chop Suey expert guitar on my first shot. It's definitely easier than BYOB, and it probably helps that I've listened to the song tons of times.

Listened to the song a ton of times, passed BYOB first try.
Passed 81/84 songs on the RB2 disc first try. I just can't do that song.
