Apples has posted his weekly DLC riddle pic. He explicitly stated there are no red herrings this time, but that the logic may be slightly (read: extremely) wacky.

http://72.198.210.201:81/RB/doodle3.jpg[IMG]

I'm thinking at the very least we'll get the new Metallica single.

Reasoning:

Battery (obvious)
Ice (Trapped under Ice) (could also involve the girl underneath being trapped?)
Barry Bonds (Pirates = piracy = Napster)
United Airlines (pledge of allegiance = ...And Justice for All)
Wolf (Of Wolf and Man)
Peanuts (Metallica has been known to play The Peanuts theme live)

Purely speculation at this point, but that's all I've got.
Could be the new Metallica single they said was coming? Or Fuel?

Today is PAX day, and if new Metallica is announced as DLC it will officially be the best day of 2008 for me.

Yesterday I was listening to my ipod and had an idea of a song pack

Bond Pack 01
"You know my Name" - Chris Cornell

"The World is not Enough" - Garbage

"Live and Let Die" - Paul McCartney

"A View to a Kill" - Duran Duran

and maybe the new one by Jack White to coincide with Quantum of Solace releasing.

THIS!

Apples' riddles are so incoherent that it's impossible to guess what's coming beforehand.

If Metallica is coming, I think we'll also see Fuel and One for Metallica Pack 02. I doubt it'll ever happen, but who knows.

edit: you know, instead of the no doubt pack they should've done a metallica pack. 12 greatest hits. Then no one would have to worry about GH Metallica.

edit again: oh yeah, for instruments... I'm keeping my drumset, I might get the new pedal though if I can. As for guitar, I really don't know, I'm starting to hate my Xplorer (strum bar sucks for alt-strumming, fret buttons literally hurt my fingertips), but I don't really like the Strat either because of its strum bar.

As much as I want the ION kit, I just can't bring myself to do this. My wife and I are currently house hunting, so If I move into a bigger place, that might become a viable option for me. As of now, I'm completely undecided on a drum kit.

About guitars, I love the calibration thing on the RB guitars, but really prefer playing with the Les Paul. Also, I'm really digging the touch pad thing on the new GH guitar. I'm not familiar with this double strum bass you speak of...

The girl is holding up her index finger, which could mean One. IGN did say long ago that it was coming.

So if we get a Metallica 3 pack, I'll guess:

The Day That Never Comes
One
Fuel

Hey guys, this might not be the right place for this and it may be a few weeks off, but what is everyone doing about plastic instruments for this round of music games? I would imagine many of you are going to get GH:WT as well as RB2, especially considering that everything will be compatible with both games.

Maybe this type of topic deserves it's own thread, something like "Decision '08: The Plastic Instrument Debate". I don't know, I'm just really undecided at this point and would like to have some discussion about this before RB2 gets here and I end up compulsively buying the whole bundle. Thoughts?

I am getting the GH:WT bundle and the RB2 disc only

I'm waiting to see if EA/MTV/HMX announce anything about RB2, and if they don't or if it's shockingly bad news again, I'll get the GH:WT bundle and consider Rock Band discs later. If Rock Band is actually competitive this time round, I'll get RB2 and both releases of the game.

This here is exactly what I want to do if only the GH drum kit had 4 pads. Will both games adjust the charts for their competitor's drum kit?

I only will use drums to play with the game and I have no intentions of buying a brain and learn to use real drums, so I think the ION kit is kinda pointless unless you intend to really do drumming.

I would be shocked if Harmonix coded their songs specially for the GHWT drum kit. Not only would it involve adding another note to the charts, but it would also rely on them getting an early version of the drum kit from Red Octane for testing purposes.

Duck said:
oh yeah! I forgot about that.

Then again, they did say there would be 18 Grateful Dead songs. Who knows.

Harmonix has said there is more Grateful Dead coming

Harmonix has no reason to code the game for the GHWT drums. All they have to do is not use the extra pad

If you look at the GH kit the colors match, and they are in the same order, except the 2nd cymbal is orange, so you will just use the 4 matching pads and the pedal.

Well, yes, if I bought the ION kit, I'd definitely get the brain later on. Hence the space issue I run into. I have no problem throwing the thing in my living room for when I want to play games, but I'd want my own "man room" for real life drumming.

EDIT: so if I used the GH drum kit w/RB2, I would just ignore the third pad? This puts a strain on my brain's desire for symmetry.

Right, the question is how awkward will it feel using the GHWT set in Rock Band. I imagine it will take some getting used to due to the different layouts.

Now that I think about it, I think my problem would be resolved if some peripheral company came out with an extra pad to add on to the GH drums.

No, you'd just ignore the second cymbal.

GH:WT's drum configuration just doesn't fit into RB's setup very well at all. Your crash is going to be on a pad instead of the cymbal. If you're playing lefty, things might be considerably screwed up as well.

I'd say go with the kit for the game that you're going to spend the most time in (if you're getting both games).

That's my current plan (I predict I'll be playing a lot more RB2 than GHWT). The fact that GHWT will work fine with the RB set pretty much decides for me that I'll be getting a RB2 drum set.

Well you could drop and flatten the yellow cymbal to make it feel more like a hi-hat.

Also maybe Neversoft doubled the orange cymbal as green for crashing.

Not like he has any information ahead of time anyway. He's just a mod, they don't tell him the songs. And the riddles are always so obtuse that they can fit nearly everything. Hell, just the melting ice could be used for Metallica, or it could be Hot Hot Heat.

Anyway, I expect some sort of PAX pack just the same.

god damn it. Why is everyone guessing fuel..? god damn it. I'm going to be so pissed if we get fuel. TDTNC is bad enough, but it's marketing so I understand. Fuel though.... ugghh...

It showed up in that BIN file leak a while back, and some magazine (OXM?) said it was coming.

The new single isn't bad at all, and I think Fuel might be fun to play.

I'm hoping that picture is hinting at Black Ice, the title of AC/DC's new album as their new single was released on their website yesterday. I'm sure it's not though.

Because we were supposed to get it ages ago?

A "Best of" with old stuff like One, Four Horsemen, Creeping Death would be amazing though

That's what I'm expecting, but that's going to screw with a lot of stuff, I think.

That's why I'm getting full versions of each. It's too early to tell if either company are going to fuck up a minor thing.

So basically the GH:WT drums is just a Rock Band drum, with an extra cymbal that is used solely for star power, that is if you scale it all back?

Its has 4 pads that you use for the songs, and RB has 4 pads that you use for the songs.

That 2nd cymbal is almost a gimmick, just to make it look more in depth, when really the only thing they did is take away the yellow pad and turn it into a cymbal.

And people are all excited for this drum...why?

Or am I totally wrong and the 2nd cymbal is used in the game, for something other then SP.

I don't know why people complained about Locksley - the press release says they were in a list of "25 Best Bands on MySpace"!

I hope this is sarcasm...because by that logic we should be getting Tila Tequila songs too.

Edit: I'm not saying Locksley is particularly bad...they're just posers. There are a lot of catchy bands out there, and when you support the commodification of music (as we all do when we download DLC) art goes out the window for marketability. (A.K.A blonde "dreamy" nice guys and pseudo-cute orange haired demi-girls like Hayley).

The second cymbal is used in the game, to activate star power you hit both cymbals at the same time.
