19. The Killers - Somebody Told Me
Belgand said:What's with all the love for the Killers here? Does everyone else worship top 40 radio or something? I was amazed when that one song of theirs showed up in both RB and GH3. Especially since it's not really much of a guitar song.
Belgand said:I don't understand how it would. Why would something be able to manipulate me like that? I mean, if I'm listening to "Panama" then yeah, I wanna jump around and rock the fuck out, but I'm not going to listen to some Weezer where Rivers is being all emo and say that I feel for him and it really speaks to me. It certainly doesn't provoke a sympathetic response. When I hear "Folsom Prison Blues" I mainly just think that it's an interesting story with the sub-thought that Johnny Cash has never actually done hard time and I cannot believe he's badass enough to get away with playing for actual prisoners without getting 31 distinct varieties of shit beaten out of him for pretending he knows how it feels... no matter how sympathetic he's being.
I can acknowledge the mood of a song, but that has far more to do with the tempo than anything else.
They make fun music.Belgand said:What's with all the love for the Killers here? Does everyone else worship top 40 radio or something? I was amazed when that one song of theirs showed up in both RB and GH3. Especially since it's not really much of a guitar song.

So fucking what if they're played on top 40 stations? not everything has to be pretentious indie shit.
Must be incredible to exist with no empathy. I mean, the world would be so...grey. For art not to be able to convey any emotion...wow, it's hard to imagine, but it seems like art would be near useless. Just wondering if that's the case?Belgand said:It's not just music though. I don't find emotion in movies or books either. My emotions come exclusively from me and outside influences simply don't affect them. I find it bizarre how they could influence other people even though I realize this is often the case.
I'm detached. I don't care how the singer feels. Why would I? It's just a song to me.

Not just a brain in a jar, then.

I just like the songs that are fun.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic here, in fact, I'm taking what you say as pure truth, and it just blows my mind. I mean, to be inable to appreciate art outside of a cold analysis of technique, or to not be affected by the people around you, by their losses and successes...I don't think I could live like that.
I wouldn't say that...Johnkers said:I think the topics here are pretty free of that thankfully.![]()

Thank you.

It does have songs that were from an older version of the RB2 list that turned out true.BobFromPikeCreek said:I don't believe that list of 20 free songs is real. There's so little variety.
McBradders said:I can't see how you can 'love' music without it evoking an emotional response, without responding to it on an emotional level seems to defeat the entire purpose of it in the first place.
Ten-Song said:This thread's turning into a philosophy class...
Belgand said:So "Girlfriend" evokes a deep emotional response for you? You really identify with her desire to steal some guy away from the girl he's currently dating because she thinks he's cute and she's jealous?
I thought you'd always just said it was a fun song.
Maybe if you define "hey, that's cute and fun and I enjoy it" as an emotional response. I can see how someone might do that, I certainly wouldn't, but I can understand it.
Flynn said:Wait. Are you guys all psychoanalyzing Belgand because he hates boring bands?
McBradders said:I won't try and defend the Girlfriend thing,
McBradders said::lol
Well played sir, but again, lyrics are one thing, the music is another. I won't try and defend the Girlfriend thing, it's just a fun song that I think would translate well in to the game and a bit of a guilty pleasure at that.
Ten-Song said:You should never defend that song at all, because it's a terrible song. The only emotional response you should get from it is shame.

The big problem with the whammy bar is that you get extra star power while using it. So people use it all the time, at ridiculously inopportune times.AMUSIX said:Just wish that people would learn what the effects do, learn when to use them (no, not 'never') and learn that effects (and the whammy bar) can be used with style and finesse.

I'VE GOT SOUL BUT I'M NOT A SOLDIER. How could you not love these guys?! "One of the best albums of the last twenty years!" Brandon Flowers was so right!Belgand said:What's with all the love for the Killers here? Does everyone else worship top 40 radio or something? It sounds like a cool lyric, but it's actually meaningless bollocks. I've got soul but I'm not a soldier? You might as well say "I've got ham but I'm not a hamster!"vatstep said:I'VE GOT SOUL BUT I'M NOT A SOLDIER. How could you not love these guys?! "One of the best albums of the last twenty years!" Jmac71 said:I love the Killers, so the more the better. I seriously don't get the hate for mainstream/top 40 music in this thread.
I'm perfectly happy with my Les Paul, and with the new Strat still not having a clicky strumbar, it's going to stay that way.Hey guys, this might not be the right place for this and it may be a few weeks off, but what is everyone doing about plastic instruments for this round of music games?
Vik_Vaughn said:Hey guys, this might not be the right place for this and it may be a few weeks off, but what is everyone doing about plastic instruments for this round of music games? I would imagine many of you are going to get GH:WT as well as RB2, especially considering that everything will be compatible with both games.
Maybe this type of topic deserves it's own thread, something like "Decision '08: The Plastic Instrument Debate". I don't know, I'm just really undecided at this point and would like to have some discussion about this before RB2 gets here and I end up compulsively buying the whole bundle. Thoughts?
