I wonder, do you think they'll release more than the usual amount of songs the week the game comes out like they did with the original?

They definitely will since they need to reach 500 songs by the end of the year.

The difficulties with the Rush album has screwed up the last few weeks so hopefully things will pick up again.

We'll definitely see something during the release week of RB2 on par with what we saw with RB1.

Has anybody done the math on how many songs are available vs how many they need to put out to get to 500? I did it off the top of my head the other day and came up to like 9 a week but it'd be cool to see a detailed breakdown.

Well, I'm kinda screwy with vocal difficulty- there are tier 8/9 songs I breeze through yet I stumble through tier 3 songs. Next To You, I just can't recover after that incredibly difficult "ow" talkie.

Forgive me if you're a PSN player and I forgot, but I added your 360 tag to my list. If you're on that you should have new scores to go after now. :P

No, Xbox 360... I'll check it out once the leaderboards update *angryface*

But as we also know the albums upcoming, we can calculate the non album song average per week.
Were those albums confirmed for this year?
Also, are disc songs included in the 500? How about just RB1 since 2 treats them like dlc? How many songs are available as dlc right now (it's around 200 i think)?

Disc songs are included in the count according to the TV ad's fine print of the logo screen. And the albums have to pretty much be this year or they would have no way of getting to 500 (even with disc songs.)

I've been playing through medium today (as nobody else is around), and same - there were 2 songs I only 2stared, but 4/5 stars on the last section? Piece of piss!

I could be wrong about any of this, but RB is 60 something songs, 2 80 so lets say 150 disc songs. 200 odd dlc songs out now so next week they'll be at 350 songs. 150 songs left.

Well, there's:

-55 persistent RB1 songs
-84 RB2 songs
-20 RB2DLC freebies
-206 DLC as of 9/9/08

So, that makes 365, with 7 albums and 16 weeks. Assuming the No Doubt pack is 12 songs, that makes 74 songs (considering the songs already in RB2, and assuming no merging a la Hellion/Electric Eye). Assuming each album gets its own week, and the 20 freebies don't, that gives 9 weeks for (500-434=) 66 songs. That makes 7.3333 songs a week for the rest of the year. (Even if you count the 3 RB1 songs that don't carry, that's still 7 a week.)

These last three weeks of just 3 songs are really pumping up the needed average.

I wish they'd release the instruments early. I have a launch drum set that has been perfect up until a few weeks ago when the pads suddenly stopped responding completely 20% of the time. Also, my pedal has been broken and fixed 3 times, and it just doesn't do the job anymore.

I could really use the new drums.

I don't see how Next To You is hard. I could mumble through that with four stars.

Once you learn Next To You, it gets downright easy - and yeah, it's a song that you can get through. I'd never heard the song before when I was first asked to sing it as part of a long setlist, and I barely survived it...but I did survive.

Where's U2? I mean, if money is an issue, all proceeds could go to RED or whatever.

I'm quoting this to remind myself that at least I'm not the only one asking for it. Military style drumming guys! Playing with the whammy and the effects during those signature infinite guitar moments. Come on! :S

And an amendment I thought about while I was out: if all the albums are padded with other releases (like Doolittle + Weezer), then you get 66 songs over 16 weeks, or 4.125 songs a week- a much more manageable number. I guess it'll come down to what they wind up doing around the albums.

(Discounting the albums and just going for raw rates, there needs to be an average of 9 songs a week from here on out.)

I wouldn't be surprised if HMX didn't make true on their 500 songs promise.

They have it plastered all over their official TV ad for it that is running right now. There is no way they would do something like that if they had to balls to the wall rush this stuff out.

If needed they will have 20+ songs to meet it on Dec 31st. I just worry about the quality of the note charts if they are in "rushing" mode.

The math makes it possible. I really do think they've slowed down a bit because of RB2's impending release. Remember, if Moving Pictures didn't get pushed back, we may still be on our more-than-3 streak. Locksley probably would have come with PAX, and I'm sure they lost some time dealing with the issue that could have gone toward another song with All That Remains.

They've been working on stuff all year

And they have it plastered on their magazine ads as well. Shit, Harmonix consists of about 280+ employees (and constantly growing), if they need to pump out 7 songs a week I'm sure they can.

And what if there's more album and/or greatest hits packs yet to be announced for this year? The live version of Shoot to Thrill was leaked, and I can't imagine Harmonix is going to feature AC/DC in their commercials and lock up exclusivity for them and just release a 3-pack this year, or even nothing at all.

And what about a Nirvana Greatest Hits? Breed was leaked in the commercial, and even though Nevermind was ruled out I can't imagine Harmonix just ignoring Nirvana for the rest of the year.

I'm passing on RB2. My roommate is getting it anyways since I'm not and he's a huge music game buff so I still won't be missing out.

I'll probably buy either RB3 or RB4. I don't buy music games all that often.

In fact, I only bought the original Guitar Hero when it was on sale, and the next game I bought after that was Rock Band. I space out my music games :D

I don't think they'll have any trouble reaching 500 by years end. I'm just worried about my wallet.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say they probably already have 450 if not 500 charted. it's the licensing that's holding a lot back methinks.

I'd say that they'll probably have more than 500 songs in the pipeline so to speak - the fact that they were able to throw out Locksley on such short notice would tend to indicate they have a backlog of sorts, "In case of emergency" songs that could help pad out the number if necessary.

Most likely. If anything, I imagine they'll force themselves to hit 500 just to have an extra marketing edge of GHWT.

I know the feeling, the hardest song for me to do is Pleasure (Pleasure).

I just beat run to the hills on hard drums.... I am so happy I finally beat my nemisis!!

I got four stars to, so I guess something finally clicked

I'm only one song away from five starring all the on-disc songs and I just can't do it.

Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld, you have won for now

Yea, that one's rough. There's no reaction space, since the phrases are all so short.

come on Harmonix, surprise early launch for the PS3

You're on PS3? What's your username? It's not in your profile and you're not on the GAF Rock Band Userlist.

Speaking of which, we need to get that list in the OP... under the premise that someone might bother to read (or update) the OP again one day.

The two on-disc songs I probably had the most difficulty with vocally is Mississippi Queen and Run to the Hills (a hard song no matter what instrument you're using).

FUCKING AWESOME!!!!
PS3 Patch (and PAX Pack info)
Hi Everyone:

PS3 ROCK BAND DISC EXPORT TITLE UPDATE
First and foremost, we’re happy to announce that PS3 users will soon be able to export RB1 songs to their system in advance of the launch of RB2! A PS3 patch will be coming out this Thursday, September 11th, which will allow RB1 song export, in addition to updating DLC to our RB2 standards (so you can continue to rock the newer content in RB1 if you so choose!) This title update will also patch for the use of the Guitar Hero III Les Paul PS3 Controller with RB1 on the PS3. We're excited to release this, as controller compatibility is something we've been working towards for a long time.

This Rock Band 1 title update is set to come out next Thursday. As with the Xbox 360 Title Update, you will have to update Rock Band in order to play any DLC that is released after Thursday.
YES! Now if activision updates GH3 to work with the strat everything will be right in the world.

Also I'm iffy about whether I should keep my RB1 drums or sell them and buy the GH4 drums. This way I can play the 5 columns on GH4 and 4 on RB2, as opposed to 4 columns on both.

You can play GH Aerosmith with the Strat right now, a patch went up I guess today. I'm sure GH3 will be right behind it.

Whoo. Finally. Lord of the Strings, AN-I-MAL, and now Virtuoso. Every career cleared.

As expected, I had more trouble with early songs than later tracks. Run to the Hills and Foreplay/Long Time were a breeze.

I suppose the Les Paul that comes with GH Aerosmith will also work with RB1 this Thursday?

I'm stuck on the beginning of Foreplay/Longtime. I usually fail around 21%. I don't think I'll ever beat it.

I found once I dropped down another octave I was able to pass Foreplay/Longtime pretty easily. I don't have anywhere near the range to sing it in the original octave. I've given up with advancing up the leaderboards on vocals now, there's no way of knowing how many of the 1000 people above me have used the Glitchkrieg cheat to boost their scores. I'll have to be content with the RB2 leaderboards.

I should have specified. I was talking about Drums.
