I know that musical taste is subjective, but I try to keep my "this music is terrible" and "this song/artist doesn't seem appropriate for the game" complaints separate as much as possible. I mean, I was just talking about how They Might Be Giants might not be good for the game and I love them. I don't like U2, but I think they'd make a lot of sense for the game. Same goes for Foo Fighters.

I can agree with you there. For example, as much as I love System of a Down I'm starting to re-think wanting more of them in Rock Band. Toxicity isn't bad, but BYOB isn't much fun to play and I'm worried about Chop Suey.

As for Foo Fighters, Monkey Wrench was my favorite song to play in GH2, so I'll definitely take more :D

See, for me they fit into both categories. I've had similar feelings about the second-to-last tier in both GH2 and 3. Lots of nu-metal type stuff that I don't like to listen to and I find unpleasant to play. I'm not going to say it doesn't belong, but it's definitely not something I personally want to see in the game.

This is why, though I love disc-based content for, well, everything (I do not like digital distribution in general for anything) I think that putting out games with the option to download your own track list would be best. Put up tons of songs online and let me pick 50 as part of the purchase price of the game. If everything is cross-compatible this also means that, yes, you're making a platform where the yearly update is just to the engine and assets along with another voucher for more songs.

OK, new topic. When do we expect Rock Band to dry up and get old? At what point are they going to run out of ideas for making it seem new and fresh and we all start to lose interest outside of the hardest of hardcore? 2010? 2012? 2112?

Where is the series going to go to keep expanding? Any possibilities that we'll be getting new instruments ever? Any major redesigns or upgrades to the existing instruments or their functionality?

I went to my local Best Buy to buy Rock Band and they were sold out. My excitement was gone immediately. I think I can hold out not buying it for a while now. Again.

Offspring songs are just ripped from the greatest hits album
HL_00702211.gif

• (Can't Get My) Head Around You
• All I Want
• Can't Repeat
• Come Out And Play
• Defy You
• Gone Away
• Gotta Get Away
• Hit That
• Original Prankster
• Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)
• Self Esteem
• The Kids Aren't Alright
• Want You Bad
• Why Don't You Get A Job?

*Looking at the other ones on that album, I can see why they only chose what they chose. Although, I'd probably enjoy singing Why Don't You Get a Job

My advice is to pick up a used copy of RB if you really want, but otherwise waiting for RB2 which will have better instruments. If you have guitar support of some kind now (e.g. Guitar Hero controllers that you could just buy an adapter for) you could just play with that. I mean, disc alone is like $30 used just about anywhere.

I've also been lead to believe that the PS2 instruments are exactly the same as the PS3 version. Since the PS2 bundle sells for $100 right now compared to $165 it'd be easier as well to buy the PS2 version and then get a used copy of the PS3 software and try to sell the PS2 software.

But seriously, I'm waiting for the new instruments myself. Well, the new drums and maybe a guitar. These Nyko things are... not ideal.

How lame is it that I named my female punk guitarist Sheena? Am I the only one who typically uses their character names and such to make musical references and in-jokes?

I've re-edited the list for clarity.

Singles
David Bowie - "Fame"
The Donnas - "Take It Off"
Metallica - "Fuel"
Pearl Jam - "Daughter"
Rolling Stones - "Brown Sugar"
Weezer - "Keep Fishin'"
Whitesnake - "Here I Go Again"

Foo Fighters
"All My Life"
"Best Of You"

Offspring
"All I Want"
"Gone Away"
"Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)"
"The Kids Aren't Alright"
"Self Esteem"

Rise Against
"Prayer Of The Refugee"

U2 (All tracks from The Joshua Tree track numbers listed)

1 "Where the Streets Have No Name"
2 "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For"
4 "Bullet The Blue Sky"
5 "Running To Stand Still"
6 "Red Hill Mining Town"
8 "Trip Through Your Wires"
10 "Exit"
11 "Mothers Of The Disappeared".

I would buy all of those. The Joshua Tree is among my favorite albums of all time. With that said, I highly doubt that list to be correct or even nearly so.

funny how the week I decide to stop playing RB they mess up the DLC. <3 HMX

they must want me to come back. I will see you on the 14th HMX. let the kids have the DLC.

Oh yeah, I was just gonna get the disc. I guess I should buy used, but I don't like supporting Gamestop and its ilk, and I wanted the game TONIGHT. :lol

Maybe I'll just go with my original plan of Amazon marketplace.

Edit: Wait, I still have some money on an Edge card, I might as well use it and get rid of it.

I was actually trying to find out if it was going to be in RB, but the info is much appreciated. :D
sorry second paragraph wasn't directed to you. It was based on general comments I had seen before. Yeah it will be on the RB2 disc.

Ideas for what? Is not like the concept can change.

I think they need to innovate though. Chord HOPOs are a good start but I'd like to see chord progressions, palm mutes etc ALA GH:WT. Open strings are also an excellent idea. Not quite sure how you'd innovate on drums/vocals though. Possibly a new Expert level of vocals which uses both phoneme and pitch detection at the same time.

Not at all. Every one of my characters are from songs:
Charlotte - Iron Maiden 'Charlotte the Harlot'
Rosie - AC/DC 'Whole Lotta Rosie'
Lola - The Kinks 'Lola'
Stroker - Charlie Daniels Band 'Stroker Ace'
Ricky - Skid Row '18 and Life' (I know, a stretch)

And, yes, I will continue the trend with RB2. In fact, I may just have to remake Stroker (and yes, he does look like Burt).

I took a slightly different (and ridiculous path).

Barry - Guitarist
Carrie - Vocalist
Larry - Drummer

and the last member of the band, my mates Bassist - Gary (who is incidentally female).

Not sure what naming convention I'm going to use for RB2 yet probably just continue with the arry/ary/arrie's though...

The majority of innovations are basically complications. Keeping the game popular with a mainstream audience has very little to do with stuff like adding hammer on chords or GH:WT's various additions. It's basically selling people the same product over and over through a tracklist that appeals to them, i.e. Singstar. The majority of new things in RB2, as much as I like them, mean jack shit to the average Walmart shopper. The Music Studio in GH:WT probably sounds appealing when people see it on a box, but when they get home they're gonna realise they have no talent and lose all interest in about 3 minutes.

On a personal level, there's a lot of things I'd like to see. I actually think RB2 is sticking a little too strictly to it's own formula, basically as a consequence of full BC.

I totally agree, but for me at least I want these complications. Even if they are only applied in Expert, it would extend my game and give me more incentive to keep playing. Despite the ridiculous charting in GH3 I'd say overall I've probably spent more time trying to master it than I have RB. Most of my time in RB is spent on vocals as it's the instrument I haven't mastered and not stuck on (Drums I'm looking at you). I'm not sure RB2 is going to be able to hold my attention outside of the challenges.

I see the Battle of the Bands as a good way of turning everything in to a more competitive environment; I like Rock Band co-op but I enjoy beating somebody in a score dual much, much more. So the idea of coming on GAF every single day and telling somebody "you suck, I beat your score" or "fuck you, you've got a Gameshark" is really gonna make a difference to the way I see the game this time around I think. Flat out gameplay, I agree, I'd like some changes. But I don't feel anything is broken enough for me to be filled with suggestions.

I'd just like to see the strumming limit removed and the timing window a little bit looser. Not guitar hero 3 loose, but not as tight as it is.

Jesus Christ, FUCK Gamestop. I was lazy and wanted to sell off a huge bunch of old games, and I've been suffering ever since with this EDGE card. I bought Company of Heroes there a few months ago, came home and the opened the box only to find there was no CD-key in it. And now I just went to go buy Rock Band used and it was 49.99, when it's 29.99 on the website. I fucking bought it anyway because I wanted to get this EDGE card out of my fucking wallet, but I still have some money left. I am doomed to be pissed off one more time.

Well, it seems that I won't be rocking YYZ on expert drums tonight. Complete and utter bummer. My most expected DLC release of... well, forever, is not coming today.

But what I found most troubling about the whole "Moving Pictures not coming out today" dealio is the fact that Harmonix is being very silent about what happened... for a company that has such an amazing community that they take care of it and have good communication, there has not been any concrete response to what is happening. RockBand.com is plastered with "Download Moving Pictures!" and even the Xbox blades sport the publicity... but, simply, the content is nowhere to be seen and HMX just said "Ermh... we have a problem. KTHXBYE!"

If the Harmonix guy who roams GAF is reading this, please, try to shed some light. I'm really bummed that this happened, from all the DLC releases, with Moving Pictures.

Have they said what's causing the Rush holdup? I can only hope it's a bit of programming logic that'll reduce the album price by the previously bought songs.

No. As I said, they just said "We have a problem" almost 24 hours ago and we have been kept in the dark the whole day. The Rock Band forums are a complete riot...and I don't blame them. Why they just don't come up and say "Ok, this, this and this is happening. Bear with us while we fix the issues". At least trow a bone to the fans and say what has happened and the trow an ETA of when the content will be released.

Probably a last minute bug in keeping the vocals from accessing YYZ.

total conspiracy nut time: maybe it's not Rush that's holding up the DLC but Metallica, what with their new single that was supposed to debut on RB before anywhere else.

Wouldn't that song be a licensing nightmare? I remember it being basically just Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da with different (covered under parody, I guess) lyrics, but I haven't heard it since less than a year after the album came out.

Also, about the unaddressed chart issues with the new drum controllers...:lol :lol :lol :lol ... :/... :( :( :( :( I fucking knew it. Harmonix made some completely retarded design choices last year (no online BWT, no hyperspeed options, etc.) so I was expecting to be pissed off by at least a few things this installment.
I'm seriously considering compiling a list of every gem in every song that needs to be flipped to make the game work. I'm pretty much exhausted tonight, though.
